It conveniently collects configuration data and runtime files into a central location. By allowing MachineLogic and Interact projects to appear in a single, unified environment, development tasks are simplified. The Project Management allows the user to... Backup and restore data from storage devices such as disks, hard drives and networks. Document all project information Access data on runtime storage requirements and components used for the application Easily perform project tasks with the guidance of Wizards" Use a common tag list for MachineLogic and Interact. CTC Parker Automation's MachineShop is an integrated suite of Windows-based software for developing Interact HMI and MachineLogic PC-based control applications. MachineShop's convenient toolbar includes a Project Manager, Environment Navigation, and a PowerStation Transfer area. Whether you buy Interact, MachineLogic, or both, these tools make it easy to manage, create, integrate and transfer your machine applications. MachineShop runs on a standard PC, as well as CTC's full line of PowerStation s, integrating all of these products into a bundled solution that can fit the requirements of any machine. For a complete machine control solution, integrate MachineLogic control with Interact HMI software - and run it on one of CTC's PowerStation workstations. PowerStation Transfer Once an application has been developed, MachineShop's PowerStation Transfer manages and transfers files that are needed to create or update a runtime project. These convenient tools simplify the transfer process, so projects can go online quickly. PowerStation Transfer can... 3 Page 3 What is MachineShop? MachineShop is an integrated Software Suite of Windows based tools for the creation of high performance machine control. The MachineShop suite is an integrated development environment Including MachineLogic and Interact software products. MachineShop is designed with an easy to use toolbar for the management of machine control projects, navigation of the development environment and the ability to transfer projects to a runtime target, such as one of CTC s PowerStations. The MachineShop suite of products includes development software for: Interact - Version 6.0 MachineLogic New PC Based Logic Controller (PCLC) MachineShop Toolbar - New Project Management Tool (IPM replacement) For current Interact users, the MachineShop toolbar replaces the Interact Project Manager (IPM). MachineShop provides the project management and transfer options that are found in IPM, with the addition of new and powerful features such as project documentation, Ethernet and Compact FLASH transfers. Project Management Environment Navigation PowerStation Transfer Project Management MachineShop development is project based. A MachineShop project groups all the necessary files for HMI, PC based logic control, and special user defined startup programs for a machine control application. All of the Interact files, MachineLogic files and special startup files are grouped together under one name. To work with a newly created project, or work with an existing project, the desired MachineShop project is selected and opened using the toolbar. Once a project is opened, launching Interact or MachineLogic from the toolbar will open Interact and MachineLogic with the proper applications ready for development. Whether a project includes just Interact, or Interact and MachineLogic, a project will always be opened first, using the MachineShop toolbar. Once a project is opened, the users can Document the project configuration View Startup Files, Interact Drivers and Modules Used, MachineLogic application information, Runtime System Requirements, and version information for Interact and MachineLogic. Create or Restore complete project backups. Copy or create new, MachineShop projects with the easy to follow New Project Wizard.
Page 4 Environment Navigation The MachineShop toolbar includes toolbar buttons to launch Interact and MachineLogic. When a MachineShop project has been opened, the selected program will launch with the proper application already loaded. Once Interact and MachineLogic have been launched, you can quickly switch back and forth between them by selecting their toolbar button. Programs may also be selected from the Tools pull down menu found on the toolbar. In addition to Interact and MachineLogic buttons, user-defined toolbar buttons may be added to the toolbar. If you use Microsoft Excel to create Interact Tag List, simply add a button for Excel to the toolbar. The new Reichard Symbol Factory for CTC, a library of 3000 industrial symbols that can be used with Interact, can also be added. Once a user defined button is defined, it will allow the user to quickly launch the desired program, or easily bring the program to top of the Windows desktop, once it is open. PowerStation Transfer Once an application has been developed, MachineShop s transfer capability manages the transfer of all the files needed to create or update a runtime system. The transfer section of the toolbar will transfer files to one of CTC s PowerStations or any PC with the new MachineShop Shell installed on it. The MachineShop toolbar includes a Transfer Wizard that steps through the process of transferring files to a runtime system. For expert users, transfer can be accomplished by selecting one of the Upload, Download, Create Backup, or Restore Backup toolbar buttons. Important: With the release of MachineShop, CTC s PowerStations will come with the new MachineShop Shell. The MachineShop Shell is a necessary software component that must be installed on the runtime system for use with the new MachineShop development suite features. MachineShop can transfer a complete project, transfer updated files only, create or restore project backups, all using a connection to the runtime workstation. A connection refers to the method used to transfer files to or from a runtime system. The types of transfer connections available are MachineShop Network, Interact IPM Compatible Serial and disk transfers. Multiple connections can be defined, each with a unique user defined name for different types of connections. Connections can even be defined with the same connection type, but for different target runtime systems. For instance, different connections can be defined for runtime workstations on a Local Area Network (LAN). Any one of the workstations may be selected for a transfer by choosing it from the connection drop down list found on the toolbar.
Page 5 MachineShop Connection Types Interact IPM Compatible Serial This type of connection is used to transfer projects to a CTC PowerStation that has the PowerStation Shell installed on it. This connection supports the transfer of Interact projects only, and is supplied for backward compatibility with existing systems. This connection uses a serial port connection between the MachineShop development system and the PowerStation. Note: This connection replaces IPM connectivity. IPM is a DOS based utility that is optimized for handling serial ports and the transfer of files through them. This connection will provide the same capability as IPM. Due to the addition of overhead in handling of serial ports in the Windows environment, the length of time necessary to transfer files with this connection will increase from the transfer times when using IPM. Be sure to see the Important Notes section at the end of this document or more information about Compatibility with IPM. MachineShop Network Connections MachineShop Net is a type of connection between development and runtime systems. The simplest MachineShop Net connection is a single development system connected to a single runtime system via a serial cable; however, multiple development and runtime systems can be connected to one another via a LAN. Files may be transferred between development and runtime systems using File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Development systems that are running the MachineShop toolbar can view the runtime systems that are connected to the LAN using the MachineShop Net command on the View menu.
Page 6 MachineShop Connections include Direct Connection (Serial) This option allows you to connect to a runtime system point to point using a serial cable at speeds up to baud. LAN Connection This option allows you to connect to a runtime system using Ethernet point to point or over a LAN. The target runtime system may be predefined or selected dynamically by viewing its MachineShop Network Name, Internet Protocol (IP) address, or host name at the time of download. MachineShop Network Names and IP Addresses for runtime systems are defined in the MachineShop Shell of the runtime system. A host name, such as may be defined for a runtime system by your local network administrator and will require a domain name server (DNS). The appropriate IP address defined by the DNS should be configured in the runtime system s MachineShop Shell. Remote Access A remote system may be accessed using this connection type by assigning it a published IP Address (Internet accessible) that has permissions from the local network administrator to be accessed from the web. Dialup Networking Remote systems may also be accessed by modem using Window s standard Dial-Up Networking feature. Whether you're at home or on the road, you can connect to a remote runtime system by using a modem and dialing in to a remote-access server on the LAN that the runtime system is attached to. Disk Transfers Files may be transferred directly to Compact FLASH or network drives using the Disk Transfer connection. CTC s PowerStation family comes standard with Compact FLASH for its fixed storage. A Compact FLASH card may be inserted into your computer using a Compact FLASH PCMCIA adapter or an Imagemate Compact FLASH drive for desktop PCs. Once inserted, the Compact FLASH card looks like a logical disk drive and transfers may be sent directly to them. System Requirements MachineShop Development System: Pentium CPU 133Mhz (or equiv) Windows B (OSR2), Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0 SP3 24 MB system RAM (Windows 95/98) 32 MB system RAM (Windows NT) 50 MB available hard drive space (Increases with optional IE5 Options) CD-ROM drive 10 MB Ethernet network interface (recommended) or serial port Video: 800 x 600 resolution, 256 colors Input Devices: Microsoft compatible mouse and keyboard
Page 7 MachineShop Runtime System: Intel SX 25Mhz (or equivalent, may vary depending on application) 4 MB system RAM 8 MB available non-volatile mass storage 10MB Ethernet network interface (recommended) or serial port Video: 320 x 240 or 640 x 480 resolution, 16 colors Input Device: Microsoft compatible mouse (or equivalent) Important Notes MachineShop Packaging When MachineShop (Interact, MachineLogic or both) is ordered, a package with all Interact software, all MachineLogic software, the MachineShop Toolbar, and documentation for each of these items will be included with the package. The security key received in the package will be programmed to match the options that have been purchased. MachineShop will be distributed on a single CD, containing all three software products. Individual components or the complete suite of products may be installed from this CD. Any development software product or option that has not been purchased and is installed on a system, will be available in Preview Mode for 60 minutes. MachineLogic Development is key protected using the same key as Interact. MachineLogic may be enabled on any existing Interact 5.X key, or when ordered with a new system, it will be enabled on the new development key. The procedure for updating a key will be similar to the procedure for adding an Interact module to an existing key. The MachineShop toolbar is not key protected and may be used on any appropriate system to transfer projects, create runtime system backups, or to restore runtime backups. Compatibility with Interact Project Manager (IPM) MachineShop was designed to replace IPM; however, MachineShop is capable of reading projects that were created in IPM, Interact, or MachineLogic. In fact, MachineShop will prompt you whenever you attempt to open a project and it detects Interact or MachineLogic application files on your system that are not part of a MachineShop project. Once the MachineShop files exist, you can use MachineShop to view and download all your projects to the PowerStation Shell that, in the past, were downloaded using Interact s IPM. Note: Creating MachineShop files does not prevent you from continuing to use IPM to download projects to the PowerStation Shell; however, you cannot use IPM to download projects to the MachineShop Shell. MachineShop is also capable of reading project backups that were created using IPM. When you restore a project backup that was created with IPM, MachineShop maintains the directory structure for Interact projects.
Page 8 MachineShop Shell PowerStation Compatibility The MachineShop Shell is a new software program for CTC PowerStations and standard PCs. The MachineShop Shell is required for the use of MachineLogic, or to take advantage of the new features provided with the MachineShop toolbar. PowerStations (P1-P7 and PowerStation RS) with a hard drive or Compact FLASH may be updated to use the new MachineShop Shell. CTC recommends that a 10 MB Compact FLASH card be used with the new MachineShop Shell. Interact Project Path Change MachineShop is backward compatible with existing Interact projects using IPM. When MachineShop is installed on a development system that has existing Interact projects stored on them, the existing projects will be copied into the new project directory structure. The existing Interact project directory and stored files will be left completely intact. Interact Project Path \\INTERACT\PS\PROJECTS\ PROJ_1\APPFILES \STARTUP PROJ_2\ PROJ_3\..
