UNDIP TEAM TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP III : ANALYSIS OF ENERGY SAVING ELECTRICITY IN CENTRAL JAVA Grand Legi Hotel Mataram, NTB 26 Feb 2 March 2011
GENERAL INFORMATION OF CENTRAL JAVA PROVINCE 2
According to PLN statistic data costumers in Central Java increase about 3.5 % every years. That makes the usage of electrical energy growing steadily while indonesia is in state of electrical crisis resulting in power cutting in random area. Because of that we need to saving the electrical energy from household, business, and industry sectors 3
HOUSEHOLD SECTOR FOR EFFICIENCY BUSINESS INDUSTRY 4
The most costumers is in household sector instead of another sectors. Because we have a lot of customers from this sector, we can save a lot of energy HouseHold 5
Comparison table between each sectors in Central Java LEVEL Total Costumer HouseHold Business Industry Type - 1 (450VA) 3,980, , Type - 1 (900VA) 1,693, , Type - 1 (1300VA) 215, , Type - 1 (2200VA) 85, , Type - 1 (The Rest) Type , , , Type - 3 2, Type TOTAL 6,002, , , Reference: Data dan Statistik Tahun 2009 PT. 8 How to Save Energy in Household Sector? Increasing the awareness of costumer s electrical usage Replacing the conventional tools with the energy saving one For example, bulb usage is one of energy saving. HouseHold 8
One way to increase the costumers awareness is time managing Example : every houses must turning off 2 bulbs in specific time (ex: 5pm 10pm). That bulb has 10 watts. Then, every houses can save about 100 watts. And every months saving = Rp 9,607,413, = Rp 9.6 billion with just the awareness from citizen to turn bulb off from this household sector, or this can save up to 18GWh HouseHold 9
Number of bulb 2 Energy Consumed (W) 10 Time(hours) 5 Price (Rp./kWh) Total Costumer 6,002,195 Saving energy (Rp.) 9,607,413, Saving energy (kwh) 18,006,585 Before Saving Energy After Saving Energy Total Energy Sold (kwh) 6,424,319,568 6,406,312,983 Saving energy : 9.6 Billion rupiah Percentage saving : 0.28% HouseHold 10
Total energy sold 1 year(kwh) 6,425,000,000 6,420,000,000 6,415,000,000 6,410,000,000 6,424,319,568 Total energy sold 1 year(kwh) 6,405,000,000 6,400,000,000 6,406,312,983 6,395,000,000 Before Saving Energy After Saving Energy HouseHold 11
Beside awareness, we can save the energy with another method, that is with replacing the conventional bulb with the energy-saving bulb For example, every houses replace 3 conventional bulb with the energy-saving bulb, then we can analyze for using energysaving bulb, we can save such amount of kw HouseHold 12
Conventional Energy saving Life time (hours) Replacement (month) 8 50 Energy consumed (W) Price (Rp.) 5,000 32,500 Electric cost Rp./kWh (for 1300 VA) watt hours per month 8,280 1,932 kwh per month Monthly payment 5, , Monthly pay for 3 bulbs 17, , HouseHold 13
According to counting and analyzing in that chart, the usage of energy-saving bulb in 5 months can give back our money to buy the energy saving bulb. Even, in next months, every houses make such a profit after using the energy-saving bulb. And, the important is, with using this energy-saving bulb, Central Java can save money up to Rp 26.9 billion just from household sector. Percentage : 0.78% HouseHold 14
This business sector is a sector which need a lot of energy According to PLN statistic data, the electric cost/kwh in this sector is higher than other sector Business 15

How to Save Energy in Business Sector? like household sector, in business sector, there s two ways to saving energy Increasing the awareness of costumer s electrical usage Replacing the conventional tools with the energy saving one Business 18
To increase the costumers awareness is time managing we can prevent energy wasting when not needed like lamp, water heater in Hotel, etc Example of management time in Santika Hotel Semarang Business 19
Analysis of counting energy saving with power cutting in hotels in Central Java Kind of Hotel Star Hotel Non Star Hotel Unit Number of Bulb 10 4 Saving Time(hours) 5 5 Energy Consumed(W) Electric Cost (Rp./kWh) Watt hours per month kwh per month 9 9 Monthly Saving/bulb Monthly Saving/ hotel Total Saving(Rp.) 21 The second method is replacing conventional with energy saving electrical tools. For example, saving energy can be done just with replacing conventional bulb with energy-saving lamp, just like in household sector. In hotel business, we can replacing solar-fuel boiler with heat exchanger Business 21
For simulation, assume that every hotels replace 20 conventional bulbs with energy-saving bulbs. Conventional Energy saving Life time (hours) Replacement (month) 8 50 Energy consumed (W) Price (Rp.) 15,000 32,500 watt hours per month 8,985 1,932 kwh per month Electric cost Rp./kWh (for 450 VA) Electric cost Rp./kWh (for 900 VA) Electric cost Rp./kWh (for 1300 VA) Electric cost Rp./kWh (for 2200 VA) Electric cost Rp./kWh (for Type - 2) 1, , Electric cost Rp./kWh (for Type - 3) Business 22
According to counting and analyzing every level from this sector, will produce different saving in every level. Here is a chart for energy saving every level from replacing conventional bulb with energy-saving bulb LEVEL Energy Saving (Rp.) 26 From the above data obtained calculation results that by replacing the heat exchanger obtained BEP (Break Event Point) in the next 11 months from the time of initial purchase. And when calculated by the turn of heat exchanger the importance of the profit of Rp /month, with the amount of 106 hotels, include two star hotels to five star.
