10 Regional PHTC Program Purpose The purpose of the Regional PHTC Program is to improve the nation s public health system by strengthening the technical, scientific, managerial and leadership competencies of the current and future public health workforce. Primary audience: Governmental public health staff Secondary audience: Staff from other parts of the public health system

12 SOUTH CENTRAL PHTC S MISSION Strengthen the technical, managerial, and leadership competence of the current public health workforce Advance the knowledge and skills of the future public health workforce. Center on competency-based, practice-focused courses addressing core functions and essential services; Formal needs assessments in the south central region. Courses on-site or distance delivery modalities An extensive evaluation program for both curricula and the Center as a whole.

14 WRPHTC Mission: Develop, provide and monitor need-based trainings for current and future public health workers and to strengthen their public health competencies. Also, provide additional expertise on nutrition, physical activity and obesity to the national network of PHTCs.

15 Major Roles of WRPHTC Engage health departments and implement a needs assessment to find out training needs Develop and implement distance-based trainings Establish and implement strategies to promote and market the work of WRPHTC Develop and implement plans to establish or strengthen faculty-student collaborative projects and field placements

16 Public Health Core Competency Self-assessment and Training Preferences Survey Online using Qualtrics as platform Can be tailored to organization s needs Implemented for AZ, NV and CA with HI and PIHOA using their own assessment Over 2,400 public health staff have completed a needs assessment survey
