1 Basic PC Hardware Description: Students will identify basic hardware components for a PC and understand how to assemble them into a PC. Content: Hardware components with which students should be familiar: motherboards, hard drives, hard drive interfaces, RAM, video cards, power supplies, fans. Skills: Students should be able to identify the parts listed above and be able to assemble them to create a PC. Demonstration for Passing: Can correctly identify all the major components. Demonstration for Mastery: Shows a deeper knowledge of computer components and interconnects, e.g., what an IDE interface is, SATA, different kinds of drives, RAM, etc. Demonstration for Mastery with Honors: Given a basic PC, can open, name, remove, and reassemble components within half an hour. Resources: Roger, Google "basic computer hardware" for a gazillion pages

2 Basic HTML Description: Basic knowledge of essential HTML elements. Content: The student should be able to code a page, or pages, using notepad or another text editor, based on specifications provided by the committee, within a specified time span. The demonstration will show 1) understanding of the essential structure of an HTML document; 2) familiarity with the basics of structural markup (e.g., H tags, list tags, etc.); 3) understanding of anchor and image tags, and how tag attributes are used; 4) understanding of relative and absolute paths; and 5) basic directory structures on a web server. Demonstration for Passing: Resulting page renders in a browser with only minor errors. Links work correctly and images display correctly. Demonstration for Mastery: Resulting page renders flawlessly in a browser. All links and images work. Demonstration for Mastery with Honors: Resulting page renders flawlessly, and student shows advanced coding skills beyond the basic level. Advanced coding skills, for this demonstration, include use of form tags and elements, use of CSS, use of non- standard html attributes. 3 Wireframe Design Description: Creation of a wireframe design using paper/pencil or computer imaging software to provide a visual mock- up of a simple web page design. Content: The student should provide two drafts of the wireframe: first, an initial draft that includes all of the visual elements that will be incorporated into the page, and second, a more detailed draft that includes essential HTML and CSS elements (tags, height/width proportions, borders, margins, column breakdown, colors and fonts used, etc.) Demonstration for Passing: Student provides two, sequential drafts on the wireframe that contain appropriate content distribution for a simple web page. Demonstration for Mastery: The student s second draft contains essential information about the code required (i.e. basic HTML and CSS elements) to produce the web- based layout for a simple web page. Demonstration for Mastery with Honors: The student s second draft contains detailed information about the code required (i.e. basic HTML and CSS elements), including a breakdown of which specific elements will be used to produce the desired visual results for a simple web page. Recommended for: Web Design & Development; other tech- related Endeavors

4 Cascading Style Sheets Description: Student demonstrates basic familiarity with essential CSS elements and their use in HTML documents. Demonstration: The student will code a page, or pages, using Notepad or equivalent text editor, utilizing fundamental concepts of CSS, including at least: - - basic font and text selectors - - element positioning - - external and internal stylesheets - - use of element, class, and ID selectors Passing: Resulting page renders in browser with only minor errors. Styles are applied correctly. Mastery: Pages render flawlessly. Styles are applied correctly. Honors: Pages render flawlessly and show use of CSS to create a harmonious and attractive design.
