For many parents using a Bakfiets.nl Cargobike or Cargotrike is a liberating and life changing experience especially on the school run in busy towns and cities where the volume of traffic has become a big problem. Since the first model there has been continuing development to enable you to carry babies, children, dogs, shopping and cargo with ease and in safety. CargoBike Classic Short The CargoBike Classic Short is the closest to the original model, easy to steer and with a low centre of gravity and wooden box which children can easily get in and out of. CargoBike Cruiser Short The CargoBike Cruiser Short is a stylish and sporty version of the Classic model but with fat tyres for comfort, broad mudguards in matching frame colour, Brooks Aged leather saddle and handlebar grips, a retro style 35 lux headlight and Plateo rear light both powered by the hub dynamo and with standlight function. 3 CargoBike Classic Long The CargoBike Classic Long is identical to the short but with a stretched frame and box. It has the space to carry up to 3 children by adding an extra bench at the front or 2 children on the rear bench and a baby in a Maxi cosy or white wooly baby/toddler seat in the front area. You can also carry a dog on a dedicated seat with top cage and have a door in the side of the box for easy entry. 4 CargoBike Airo The Cargobike Airo is the lightest cargobike in the range, with similar size to the long cargobike and 6.5 kilos lighter it has an aluminium frame, the box is constructed from aluminium profile edging with light but strong trampoline fabric side panels. The hydraulic brakes give exceptional stopping power with a minimum of effort. 5 CargoBike XL The Cargobike XL is a stretched version of the cargobike long with a big long flatbed of 102cm length it can carry a lot of goods, the side rails are optional so you can fit a dedicated box or strap system to suit your specific freight and needs, from brewery to baker this bike will give you the edge when delivering in congested urban streets and town centres. 7 Electric Assist A selection of the models are available with a sophisticated but easy to operate crank drive electric assist motor, the battery can be rear rack or box mounted and is removable. Shimano STEPS One of the big names in the cycling manufacturing world Shimano have developed a reliable light but powerful bottom bracket located motor driving through the pedal crank which has a good range and long battery life. The handlebar mounted display is simple to use with a handlebar mounted toggle switch to change between the functions and power settings, there is even a walk function for pedestrianised areas when dismounted. Steps is available in combination with 3 different gear options Sram Duomatic 2 speeds auto change hub with Shimano rollerbrakes Shimano Di2 8 speed hub with electronic gear changer and Shimano rollerbrakes NuVinci continuously variable hub gear with rollerbrakes Di2 The Di2 version is fully integrated with the motor and by means of electronic control the motor automatically reduces power slightly to enable electronic gear shifter to make a smooth change, the system is fully adjustable so it can be set to change down when coming to a halt and ensuring that you are in the right gear to set off again or you can choose to manually select the gears with the toggle switch on the handlebar, Automatic Shifting The combination of our drive unit and the Di2 internal gearhub enables you to use the fully automatic shifting function. Torque, speed and cadence are monitored to automatically and smoothly shift to the right gear. You can switch back to manual shift whenever you want. Operating Range How far can I go on a full battery? This is a difficult question to answer as it depends on the weight fully loaded of the cargobike or trike including the rider, the terrain to be covered flat hilly or mountainous, City or country environments will have a big influence, stopping and starting especially, the effort that the rider puts in to pedalling, the level of assistance chosen from the motor, The temperature, low temperatures have an adverse effect on the battery performance, typically the range can vary between 25km and 100km (or 15 and 70 miles), once you have ridden for a while the on-board computer will estimate and display the potential range based on the journey so far.
