18 Protocol Buffers Components: Compiler Class File Library build, serialize, and send messages Difficult to find compiler that was: Up to date Compatible with Objective-C

19 Protocol Buffers Mostly open-source Semi-official project that included Objective-C compiler extension was several years old Experimented with several implementations Best solution was to install most recent version of the compiler, and then install Objective-C extension Still produced files that conform to a older version of the SDK

20 Protocol Buffers Library Unlike other implementations, the provided library was not something you install Library is a self-contained Xcode project Solution was to set the Protobuf project as a dependency of my CyberTiger project

21 Geolocation Test The Objective-C protocol buffers class contained methods for interacting with Apple s NSStream classes for network communication. However, after experimentation the best solution was to use basic socket communication Implementing the actual test was simply a matter of porting the C++ test client code, with a few minor alterations

22 Test Structure I designed the tests so as to eliminate redundant code Each of the tests share common elements: Collection Initialization Completion

23 Test Structure GenericTest has three methods: execute(int testtype) performtest receiveresults Each of the other tests (TCP, UDP, Streaming) are subclasses They override the performtest method receiveresults displays different information depending on the results received

26 TCP Bandwidth Test Subclassed GeoLocationTest and overode performtest From there it was simply a matter of porting the C++ code

27 Testing Tested app at many different locations, each with different levels of perceived signal strength Ensured app handled error cases where the server was unreachable, or certain necessary information could not be acquired Compared TCP test results to other existing apps

28 Conclusion All original deliverables were achieved Tests perform to standard Only outstanding issue is the missing metrics information
