2 Comments received from the Old Fire Station Consultation June 2014 It would be nice to open the doors to the public and invite the community in to meet councillors and look at suggested plans asap. This would make it easier for the community to get a feel of how big it is and then make suggestions. Only point of view is THINKCAR PARKING Just has to be the Park Café it would be a missed opportunity Problem with different functions going on where on earth will cars park Walk-in centre for the elderly/lonely/seeking companionship. Volunteers could serve tea and biscuits while visitors chat/make friends etc. The engine hall should be a permanent, full time exhibitions pace where local artists & craftsmen can display their work alongside other temporary seasonal exhibitions. Primary purpose a meeting space for young people (HUB) with ability to hire out remainder. Ideally HUB manage bookings and collect hire fees for rest of building, leasing whole building from Council. The grassed area of the park which is fenced off is currently under-used. This area could be developed into a formal garden with flower beds, benches and a bandstand. An efficient heating system quickly available when building is being used for functions in cold weather is important It would be nice to see the building used as a local venue for live music. This would certainly be a great thing for the town, Little else despite the claims improves in Brackley A soft indoor play area for under 5 s with café and party room Perhaps a permanent place for the Brackley Players Meditation space (growing numbers of non-denominational people in society who would benefit from a space that mimics a church/mosque space to go to enjoy a retreat. Can include yoga classes, guided meditation, music at intervals, and quiet time at intervals. Check out A flexible community centre, usable by a variety of different community groups but with an emphasis on young people and creative activities. The café would need to be in the part next to the park for easy access. As the Hub is inly open for a couple of hours once a week and seems well attended, perhaps a similar meeting place on a different night could be arranged. I do feel that young people should be asked what they want that way you will use it and enjoy it. Definitely not more offices. Important to have kitchen to support use of building but not a café as that will affect local business. Public toilets cost to run and people abuse the facility. Keep your costs as low as possible. Mobile Cinema
3 My preferred options could all be combined in to one. The performance space could be used by drama groups/.schools/performers/ and Art festivals, the exhibition space would work for local artist, school etc. and the meeting room would attract revenue. Multi-purpose would be ideal, could also be used for family events e.g. weddings christening etc. Specifically Arts events as already hosted by local village halls through SNC arts Educational training e.g. university of third age, WEA, more generally as this is for the community I would suggest a community organisation made up of community representatives be in place to manage the facility as a community amenity surely, then no business rates to pay. Toilets - Chargeable at point of use, if necessary. In Germany some toilets cost.50 to use, but the users get a voucher for use at local shops Keep as multi-use space, large, flexible and easily transformed Children s indoor play area Why a meeting place for young people, surely this old place should be for all ages. What s the hub for? Young people. I do hope we get a vote on what happens to the Town Hall yet another place donated to the people. No more small shops we can t keep the ones open you already have. Why not use it as a community centre All of the above suggestions are very good ideas, but when I had young children and elderly parents, when we used the park both toilets and a café would have been invaluable to us, this will also provide at least one person with employment as well. No other suggestions, We re really looking forward to having more facilities at the park. Resource centre eg green/eco classes, food demonstrations teaching space eg evening classes. NOT party hire potentially lead to noise nuisance if spills outside into park/potentially against by laws in park, also potential problems parking outside venue. What a total waste of money as if we need another place to eat or meet. The only proper suggestion is a museum but that not allowed WHY? What this town needs is to attract people with some proper shopping and entertainment so we don t have to go out of town, you keep allowing houses to be built but there is nothing for people to do. Look at Bicester a proper town they have moved with the times, all we have is empty shops no parking. The new Sainsbury s will be good but WHY not make it a retail park with some entertainment area. This money would have been better spent on improving the look of the town what do we have, well as you come into the town a mess that we Brackley saw mills and at the other end lots of boarding around the F1 team, then come into town and its more boarding a very welcome sight. Then if you take a walk around what do you find cars parked on the path or the hedge so overgrown you have to walk on the road. Bring this town into the present day so its not just a place of housing and factory s. All sections of the building need to be accessed from the park not just the toilets. Otherwise they will be less use as parents won t want to leave to bring children out of the park next to the main road to use the facilities Come on you council member s open your eyes can t you see all BRACKLEY consists of is somewhere to eat and drink we do not want another place to feed when I came to Brackley in 1972 you could
4 get anything you wanted now we all have to shop elsewhere. No wonder visitors call it a dump (how right they are) Brackley is an eyesore! Village hall type place. Community hall, a place to rest when shopping and walking especially for elderly and young parents with children. Somewhere we can go to meet and make friends without costing lots of money. Run by the people for the people. This building should be pulled down it will never make money and will become a white elephant, there are enough centres which are under used you cannot create parking spaces to service this building it would have no real purpose as for funding from council tax the suggestion is a normal council solution it s a non-started! Would it be possible to move the ambulance station into the old fire station thus allowing Manor Road to become a one way road. To be as multi-purpose as possible so we all have a sense of pride and belonging to Brackley and its wonderful legacy to us all. There are not just 3 ways to fund the building. What about ticketed events put on by the management committee fundraising events put on by the management committee appropriate grants applied for to provide specific services/events Why would such a community facility be paying business rates? Waste of space giving the large space for the youth. Something for people and family to incorporate current surroundings Bar would be useful Children aged 11+ open to 10pm for snacks, drinks WIFI lounge games Safe place to be after school not on the streets Day time tea rooms Modern facilities which are flexible to allow for lots of community uses from playgroups to dance/theatre groups. Keep as much character as possible whilst putting in loo s and kitchen A café that can be accessed from the park sounds brilliant Space should be a multi-purpose as possible not especially for youth club Flexible space that can be used for a number of activities to support different groups/interests within the town Indoor children s play area climbing area in the tower Meeting place for adults, social evening, older people services Needs to be used for all age groups, not just the young as there is much in the news these days about lonely elderly too Maybe picture gallery to view of historic points of the building
5 An enclosed outside area for toddler activities i.e. playhouse, tents, paddling area in summer, action toys (big toys) to play with whilst parents have a cuppa Would suggest using area to rear of the property for external café style seating overlooking play park brasserie/restaurant/wine bar would be fantastic The café should be next to and with access to the park with outside seating area Adventure playground for small children Fancy putting a café on the high street!! What is needed is a café facility to service the park. Would you be able to watch your child from the high street no who decided these things!! Should be carefully considered the creation of circulator space is not thought through. Work meets the existing fabric to better address this. The park has not been considered and could be used in conjunction with the design. See you tube (Old Fire Station Brackley) for a sound concept/
