WHO WE ARE Foodbank NSW's Vision Foodbank NSW is a non-denominational, community supported not-for-profit, that collects unwanted food and re-distributes it to people in need through welfare agencies. Foodbank NSW was started 21 years ago and was the first Foodbank in Australia. Foodbank NSW is determined to END HUNGER in NSW. What Foodbank NSW Achieves Foodbank NSW is the states biggest food relief agency, providing 95% of all wholesale emergency food relief in NSW. We provided food to over 460 charities and welfare agencies; organisations like The Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul and Mission Australia. These organisations rely on food from Foodbank to feed struggling families. Every year Foodbank NSW saves 4 million kilos of food from being dumped. This rescued food is then turned into 5.3 million meals that is delivered to the hungry and needy. Every dollar we receive lets us deliver eight meals to people doing it tough (donations greater than $2 are tax deductible). Hunger in NSW Food insecurity is a major issue in NSW and the ACT. It affects around 680,000 people, half of whom are children. There is an increasing demand for food relief in SNW and the ACT. Almost 85% of the charities Foodbank NSW supplies aren't getting enough food to meet demand and are having to turn hungry people away. Despite Australia s strong economy, we are not immune to hunger. It exist in surprising numbers, in urban as well as rural communities, in all age groups, and in nuclear families as well as single parent households.

7 EASY STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL FOOD DRIVE 1. Plan Ahead: - Select a leader or leadership committee to plan the strategy and theme. - Determine your drive's length. Food drives can run for as short as two hours or for up to two months. Some donors even collect food and money year round. The average drive is usually about two to three weeks. - Contact Foodbank NSW to notify us of your food drive. 2. Set a Goal: - Setting a goal is a good way to motivate your donors and it provides a sense of accomplishment at the end of your drive. For example, for every $1 raised, you will be credited with having raised eight meals. Another great way to motivate participants is to set a goal per student/employee. Then multiply that by the number of participants to determine your final goal. 3. Promote Your Drive: - Two weeks before the drive, hang posters, pass out flyers, send interoffice s or use payroll stuffers with the date(s), who will receive the food and what types of food is needed. 4. Build Awareness and Visibility: - Select high-traffic areas or places that are easy for donor to access. Be sure to consider safety and security issues when choosing your locations. If you have multiple locations, you may want to recruit someone at each of those sites to help you manage donations. - Arrange for a Foodbank NSW speaker to come to your orgnisation. - Ask us for information on hunger and use it in your newsletter. - Promote the food drive wherever you can. 5. Make It Fun & Simple to Participate: - Be creative and use existing resources! Boxes can be decorated and encourage participation. - Place collection containers in convenient, high-traffic areas of your building. 6. Create Fun Competitions: - Create categories - largest individual donation, most unusual food, most pounds per department. - Themed competitions - "Carolina vs. Clemson", "First Floor vs. Second Floor", "Men vs. Women" - Match your employees donations per dollar. - Give incentives to participate: movie passes, casual day, etc. - Keep employees updatedon the progress of the drive. 7. Celebrate your success: -Thank everyone involved and congratulate yourself

FOOD DRIVE IDEAS 1. Ask a local grocery store if you can setup a drive at the store. Have friends give out information about the collection as people go in. On the way out, collect the donations. 2. Setup a competition between employees, students in your school or business to see who can collect the most food. 3. Host a special night ie a movie night and charge a food item as the admission price. Take it a step further: ask a local movie theater to host it. Now you can get hundreds of people and cans of food. 4. Got an event coming up? Holiday party or concert? Big sports game? Make a food item the price of admission. 5. Create a raffle and get great prizes donated. Price of a raffle ticket? An item of food. 6. Have a food stand. Pick a good location and get people to work it. Advertise it with posters a few days before like, Want some lemonade/cakes? It ll cost you a can of food! 7. Pick a weekend day and have groups of friends compete to see how much food they can collect in their neighborhood in 2 hours. You ll canvas your whole town in no time and probably get a good work-out too. MONEY IS ALSO NEEDED Donations of money are very helpful to Foodbank NSW. Money allows us the flexibility to buy foods that are in need but that we don't have in our warehouse. As well donations of money save on transport time and costs associated with getting donated food to our warehouse. People can make cheques to Foodbank NSW or make a secure online donation on the Foodbank NSW website All payments over $2 are tax deductible. Here are some ideas on how to collect money for Foodbank NSW. 1. Make sure donation envelopes are made available to all those involved in your food drive for money donations. 2. Do any of the above but instead of asking for a food donation ask for donations of money. 3. Go Virtual, set up donor pages on sites like Everyday Hero and Go Fund Raise. Obviously they don't accept food, but they do accept money donations. Explain to people on the site that $10 provides 100 children with a bowl of milk and cereal each. $100 provides a 1,000 bowls of spaghetti bolognaise. If you need more information please contact us.

THE DO'S AND DONT'S OF A FOODBANK NSW FOOD DRIVE Please Do... Foodbank NSW accepts only non-perishable food items from food drives. Please donate foods you would like to eat. Don't forget we also accept cash donations. For every $1 donation, we can provide eight meals. All donations greater than $2 are tax deductible. Most needed items are: Protein Products Canned Meat Beef stew, chili, soup, chicken Canned Fish Tuna, salmon, sardines Dry Beans Fruits & Vegetables Canned fruits Canned vegetables Canned juices Spaghetti sauce Jam Peanut butter Bread, Flour & Cereals Baking mix Dry cereal Sugar Dairy Products Shelf stable milk Evaporated milk Powdered milk Please Do Not... We cannot accept home canned or jarred products. We cannot distribute cans without labels. All donations need to be in their original packaging with labels.

We cannot distribute any opened products. PARTICIPATION FORM Please fill out and return by or fax Fax E Company/ Organization... Branch/ Department... Address Phone Person supervising drive...
