1 STUDENT COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many. - Mark 10:45 As humble stewards of all the Lord has given to us, we seek to love our community, city and world by the sacrificial offering of our time, talents, and resources. Because we have freely received love, hospitality, acceptance, grace, and forgiveness from God in abundance, we are inspired to offer it to others through service out of our grateful hearts. All Student Community Service Hours must be submitted for pre-approval each academic year through the student s Theology instructor with final authority resting with the Director of Campus Ministries. In order to advance within the Theology Department and graduate from Maranatha High School, all required hours and forms must be fully completed and turned in. Please note that is your responsibility to communicate with your Theology teacher any problems you may encounter. SERVICE HOUR REQUIREMENTS: Freshman and Sophomore students are required to complete10 service hours per academic year Note: All 10 service hours for freshman must be completed with or through a church or church affiliated ministry. Junior and Senior students are required to complete 20 hours per academic year. During your final two years, our hope is that your service becomes more concentrated on a specific area of focus. MHS, colleges, and universities are encouraging for consistency, quality, and depth of service over diversity. What Qualifies as Service? The spirit of your service project should be work which stretches you and gives you the opportunity to serve others with an attitude of grace and love. Service work must be pre-approved by your Theology teacher or Head of Student Ministries. Service must be verified by a supervisor with the supervisor logging and evaluation. Service must be volunteer work no monetary payment or in/direct benefits. Service must be done with age group not of your own. Service must be done outside of MHS community. 1 Note and Disclaimer: A passing grade in each theology course is required for advancement. Failure to complete Student Community Service Hours and forms in their entirety will result in an incomplete grade at the end of the grading period. If, within two weeks of the grading period, the hours and forms have not been fulfilled the grade turns from an incomplete to a failing Theology grade. 1 Service may occur through an MHS provided opportunity, however, service work done must directly benefit those outside our MHS community.

Proposal Guidelines: Must be neatly typed using the format shown below. Write two paragraphs: (1) describe the selected project and (2) explain how this project will be an opportunity to serve God as well as people. 4 Final Report This report is to be of professional quality. You are expected to consider your typing, margins, neatness, sentence structure, and spelling. It must be typed on white paper. Please follow the instructions carefully. Include all information requested by the questions for each paragraph, but do not make your paragraphs any longer than necessary. Your report will should be about one typed page (double spaced, please). Quality, not quantity is the goal. Below is a sample of the form you should use. The title and your name are to be at the top of the first page. Do not copy the questions. Use them as a guide for what to say in each paragraph, but arrange the information in a way that presents your project most effectively. Below is an example of the required format: Student s Name Teacher Course Title Submission Date Community Service Hours Final Report Paragraph 1 - What was your service project (including the sponsoring agency and location) and why was it important? Paragraph 2 - What were your responsibilities? What did you do? With whom did you work? Be specific and give dates and times involved. State the total number of hours you worked. Paragraph 3 - What difficulties did you face? How did you handle them? How did you feel about the outcome of your service? Paragraph 4 - What did you learn from your experience? How did this service activity affect your spiritual growth? In what ways did you see God work during your community service? Staple all forms together in the following order: 1. Final report 2. Time Log 3. Evaluation Form You, the student, must give the evaluation form to your supervisor. It is your responsibility to get it back in time to include it with your final report and time log. All forms must be turned in together by
