SkirtPADSYSTEM.sty INTRODUCTION The objective of WorldSkills Competitions is the simultaneous evaluation, within each trade, of several competitors performance in completing the set of specific tasks defined in the TD, in identical circumstances. This test project will evaluate the competitor while carrying out the following task: Basic techniques in designing, drafting, cutting, assembling, fusing and pressing. The competitor will have to: Design garments. Alter, design, create or drape the pattern. Mark, measure and cut. Use various industrial machines efficiently. Finish a few parts of garment with hand sewing. Iron. This test project is made of 3 different modules: Module 1: BASIC GARMENT. (Blind Marking) Mandatory garment/objective marking. Module 2: DESIGN AND CREATION OF A GARMENT. Non mandatory garment/ objective and subjective marking. Module 3: DESIGN AND CREATION OF A GARMENT USING THE ITEMS IN THE BLACK BOX. Non mandatory garment/objective and subjective marking. Date: of 14
3 DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND TASKS Module 1: BASIC BUSTIER. (Blind Marking) Mandatory garment/objective and subjective marking. The maximum working time for the bustier is 5 hours. The competitor will receive a basic bustier pattern (TP31_40CA_CA_01_EN.dxf), with the technical drawings (TP31_40CA_CA_01A_EN, TP31_40CA_CA_01B_EN), some instruction sheets and specification sheets (TP31_40CA_CA_EN.doc.module1-2-3). He will have to prepare the pattern, prepare the fabric, cut the fabric, fuse some parts of the garments and sew the garments using all the notions provided. SPECIFICATIONS: Fusing must be applied on each part of the bustier. A 55 cm invisible zipper, must be applied on the left side seam, and cut to the right measure. The end of the invisible zipper must be covered with lining. (Width 1cm.) The end of the zipper must be attached to the inside of the bustier with a plastic snap. (Position as shown on pattern) Apply boning on each bustier seam except the left side seam. Apply boning close to the back left side seam of the lining. (Position as shown on pattern) The lining must be attached to the zipper by hand. The bottom corner of the zipper can be finish by hand. Seam allowances are 1.2cm. Same pattern for fabric and lining THE BUSTIER WILL BE EVALUATED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: Cutting/pattern layout. (Optimal fabric utilization) Measurements. (Accurate measurement of the garment according to the bustier pattern.) Mandatory techniques and specifications. Overall appearance. (Drape and shape of the garment.) Quality of the mandatory garment. (Neatness of the garment. Sewing and finishing.) FABRIC: Silk Shantung (neutral color) 137 cm. wide 0.5 m. Fusing 137 cm. wide 1 m. 7 Module 2: DESIGN AND CREATION OF A SKIRT Non mandatory garment/ objective and subjective marking. The maximum working time for the skirt is 12 hours. The competitor will receive a basic skirt block (TP31_40CA_CA_02_EN.dxf), with the technical drawings TP31_40CA_CA_02A_EN, TP31_40CA_CA_02B_EN). He will also receive a selection of different fabrics, fusing, invisible zippers, and different kinds of notions to sew and decorated the skirt. The competitor will have to create a skirt according to the theme Skirt of a two piece wedding dress. The competitors are limited to the items in the supply list only. Competitors may select notions from the list provided no additional notions or fabric will be given. The competitor may choose to alter, design or create the skirt using the basic block, or may also drape the skirt directly on the dress form. The final skirt must be according to the basic block measurements. The competitor is allowed to prepare a muslin of the skirt. This muslin will not be evaluate, it is only for the purpose of draping or prototype of the pattern. The pattern of the skirt will not be evaluated, only the final skirt will be evaluated. BASIS SKIRT BLOCK DESCRIPTION: Straight Skirt wearing ease included Knee length Front and back, with waist contour dart. SPECIFICATIONS: Must put an invisible zipper up to the hip line. Must choose at least 3 fabrics from the material list, 3 out of 5. REQUIRED DESIGN COMPONENTS FOR THE SKIRT: Design details may also include but are not limited to pleats, gathers, ruffles, draping, seams, A-line, princess, flare, circle skirt, trumpet flare, train, etc. Must be lined, partially or completely. An appropriate hem treatment- no raw edges. ( except for tulle and organza) An appropriate waist treatment (waist band, bias, facing etc no raw edges.) Must fit the dress form measurements. Must reflect the given theme. «Skirt of a two piece wedding dress» For further information consult the Skirt Evaluation Sheet. ( Will be provided later) THE SKIRT WILL BE EVALUATED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: Final measurements. (Fitting on the dress form according to the basic block.) Overall appearance. (Drape and shape of the garment.) Quality of the non-mandatory garment.( Neatness of the garment.sewing and finishing.) Level of difficulty. Creativity of the design. (Colour combination. Fabric coordination. Principal of creativity/design. Wearable.) At the competition: Draft the skirt pattern using the basic skirt block (TP31_40CA_CA_02_EN.dxf), which will be provided. 9 Module 3: Design and creation of a garment using the Black Box. Non mandatory garment/ objective and subjective marking. The maximum working time for the bustier is 5 hours. Each competitor will receive the identical items in the BLACK BOX. The box will contain all the elements for the module 3. The competitor will have 5 hours to design create and complete the garment. Each BLACK BOX will contain the competitor s bustier made in module 1, plus a selection of different fabrics, fusing, zippers, and different kinds of notions to decorate the bustier. The competitor will have to design and create a decorated bustier according to the theme A two-piece wedding dress This bustier is to be co-ordinated to the skirt made in module 2 to create the final wedding dress. The competitor is limited to the items in the BLACK BOX only. Competitors may select notions from the list provided no additional notions or fabric will be given. The BOX may contain some or all of the elements detailed in the list. NO DISCONSTRUCTION OF THE BUSTIER. THE SHAPE OF THE BUSTIER MUST REMAIN THE SAME. IT IS ALLOWED TO OPEN THE SEAMS JUST FOR THE PURPOSE OF INSERTION OF FABRIC OR ACCESSORIES. THE BUSTIER MUST BE KEPT AS THE INSIDE STRUCTURE AND MUST BE DECORATED ON TOP. SPECIFICATIONS: Must choose at least 2 fabrics from the material list, 2 out of 4. Must choose at least 2 accessories from the material list. In case of a module 1 not finished, the candidate will have to finish it after the marking of module 1 and outside the competition time, prior to the module 3. 11 Day 1: Module 1 - One hour before beginning of the first module the competitor will receive the technical drawings, patterns and instructions for module 1,2 and 3. - Before the beginning of the Day 1 the competitor will have the chance to look at the sample of a finished basic silk shantung bustier on the dress form for module 1. - At the end of Day 1 he must hand over the completed or uncompleted bustier for module 1 (for marking) and all remaining fabric and notions. In case of a module 1 not finish, the candidate will have to finish it after the marking of the module 1 and outside the competition time, prior to the module 3. Day 2: Module 2-10 minutes before the beginning of the second module the competitor will receive information, pattern and material for module 2. - Construction of the skirt for module 2 will continue into day 3. All items for the skirt will be stored on site at the end of day 2. Day 3: Module 2 - At the beginning of Day 3, the competitor may continue the work started on module 2. - After 12 hours, on Day 3, he must hand over the completed or uncompleted skirt for module 2 (for marking) and all remaining fabric and notions. Day 4: Module 3-15 minutes before the beginning of Day 4, the competitor will receive the Black box. - At the end of Day 4 he must hand over the completed or uncompleted decorated bustier for marking and all the remaining fabric and notions. At the end of each module, the components will be labelled by a neutral person and marked. The final result will be the total result for all 3 modules. INSTRUCTIONS TO THE COMPETITOR - Competitors must use only the fabric and notions supplied. - Competitors must hand in all fabric and notion left over at the end of each module. - An expert will be in charge of taking pictures of every competitor's work during the competition and the marking sessions. No others pictures will be permitted. All the pictures will be available to everyone after the competition on a Web site. SAFETY RULES MUST BE FOLLOWED AT ALL TIMES ON COMPETITION SITE. Date: of 14
12 EQUIPMENT, MACHINERY, INSTALLATIONS AND MATERIALS REQUIRED Please check the infrastructure list for the equipment and tools provided at each work station. For the infrastructure list: Refer to TD31_40CA.pdf 7.1 Materials, equipment and tools supplied by Competitors in their toolbox Tailor s chalk Pencils Tracing wheel Thimble Scissors (paper and fabric) or electric scissors. Rulers Pins Hand sewing needles Beading needles Press cloth Weights A selection of drawing tools (coloured pencils etc) Pattern Master - curved pattern drafting tool Stitch Ripper Bodkin Press mitt Press Dowel Tube Turner No competitor is allowed to bring any kind of equipment, fabric, tape, thread, pattern pieces, slopper, books, notes or samples. If any of these are found they will be taken away prior to and during the competition.
