Please see posting on lab doors for your section's lab room. No consumption of and FOOD or DRINKS is allowed in the laboratories. Experiments are performed in class and on your own outside of class. In addition, each student will need to complete one night observing session. There are no required materials for this course. A cell phone or tablet with a camera and/or a laptop computer will be useful but are not required. Permitted only in case of documented unavoidable absence due to acceptable cause (such as serious illness, death in family, court summons). You must submit a completed authorization form to your laboratory section instructor. Your instructor will indicate whether your makeup is authorized. If authorized you must do the makeup as scheduled. Please contact your laboratory section instructor for assistance in the course. Notices concerning the physics service laboratory courses will be posted in the display cases opposite Olney 111 and on the lab room doors. Academic Conduct You are responsible for appropriate academic conduct. Please refer to the university's academic integrity policy at: You should work with your lab partner but you each must write and turn in a separate lab report using your own words.

The grades for each of the six laboratory experiments will be based on: Exp #1 Exp #2-6 5% for completing pre-lab test 45% for lab report 40% for successfully completing a night observing session 10% for post-lab quiz 5% for completing pre-lab test 85% for lab report 10% for post-lab quiz

3 PHYS 1210L Lab for Exploring the Universe (Fall 2016) COURSE POLICY Course Rules 1. Pre-lab quizzes will be given at the beginning of the lab meeting. 2. Post lab quizzes must be completed for each lab. 3. Six experiments must be performed. Completing five or fewer laboratories will make it unlikely that you will receive a passing grade. 4. To complete lab 1 you will be required to attend a night observing session after dark. 5. You should work with a lab partner for all labs but you must each prepare your own lab report in your own words for each lab. 6. All lab reports must be uploaded to Blackboard as PDF documents. 7. You MUST attend the section for which you are registered. 8. Lab reports MUST include: 1. Lab partners name. 2. Answers to questions (which must be in complete sentences.) 3. Notes and calculations 4. Additional pages for each lab session as needed. 5. Your lab instructor will give you more instructions about the correct format and schedule of the lab reports. 9. Only one authorized makeup lab will be allowed.
