The course covers a spectrum of topics involved with current approaches to modeling and design of databases and the design of DBMSs to manage databases. The relational model is emphasized and relational database management systems are addressed. The topics include: Advantages of Using the DBMS Approach, A Brief History of Database Applications, Database System Concepts and Architecture, Data Modeling Using the Entity- Relationship Model, Enhanced Entity-Relationship and UML Modeling, The Relational Data Model and Relational Database Constraints, Relational Algebra and Relational Calculus, SQL statements, Relational Database Design by ER- and EER-to- Relational Mapping, Schema Definition, Constraints, and Queries, Database design theory and normalization, 3NF, BCNF, Buffer Management and Basic File Structures, Indexing Structures for Files. توصيف عام Course Objectives Demonstrate the value of using a Database Management System to store and retrieve information.
