Projects 1 In this project, we ll show you a quick and easy way to create simple numbered tickets by using the PagePlus master pages and page numbering features. You ll learn how to: Set up printer and page size options. Work with master pages. Add page numbers to a master page. Align text objects. Add pages to a publication. Preview a publication on the printed page. Prefix page numbers with leading zeros.
2 Projects PagePlus provides a wealth of features to help you create many different publication types. In this simple project, we ll show you a useful way to combine master pages, and page numbering. We ll then demonstrate some of the powerful printing options available to you. 1 Before starting PagePlus you should begin by selecting your printer and page size. In Windows, go to your Printers window (this process differs slightly between versions of Windows), then right-click on your printer of choice and choose Properties. In the dialog, select a suitable page size. In our example, we will use a desktop inkjet printer and A5 paper (roughly 6 x 8 ). Make a comparable choice that's supported by your specific printer. 2 Open PagePlus and in the Startup Wizard, click Cancel (in the upper right corner of the window). This will open a default blank page. On the Pages context toolbar, click Page Setup. 3 In the Page Setup dialog: Set the page size to match your printer (A5 in this example). Select the Small Publications option. Click the Create Custom button.
4 In the Small Publication Setup dialog: In the Gap section, set the gap values, Gap X and Gap Y, to 0.0 cm. In the Layout section, set the Across value to 2 and the Down value to 5. In the Margins section, leave the Auto check box selected. Projects 3 PagePlus automatically calculates the small publication size required to fit this many pages on to the paper size you selected earlier. Selecting the Auto option ensures that PagePlus will not use the unprintable area of your paper in its calculations or printing. 5 Click OK once to return to the Page Setup dialog. Click OK again to return to the PagePlus workspace. Now your publication size will switch to the new settings. You can ignore the default blue margin indicated or if you wish, right-click on your page, click Layout Guides, then set your margins to zero. 6 At the lower left of the workspace, click the Current Page box (currently displaying 1 of 1) to switch to the master page. Master pages are background pages, like sheets of extra paper behind your main publication pages. Every page layer can have one master page assigned to it and a given master page can be shared by any number of main pages. The publication we're working with offers the simplest possible case: a single page with one layer. Objects on the master page show through to the main page (unless they're obscured or you've switched off Master Page Objects on the View menu). Placing objects on a master page lets them appear on more than one page useful for logos, headers, footers and auto-generated page numbers. For an overview of these elements, see Understanding master pages in online Help.
4 Projects You can add an event name, logo, watermarked graphic or other object(s) to the master page if you would like them to appear on each ticket. If you want to design a stub for the ticket, add a second Page Number object to the master page. You might also design an area for a name and address to be written on the stub and ticket. 7 Click the Artistic Text tool and then click in the top left of the publication and drag out a fairly large square to set a large font size for a new text object. When you release the mouse button and can see a flashing text-insertion cursor, click Insert, then Page Number. You ll see {n} or an actual page number on your page. 8 Select the {n}: On the Align tab, click Centre Horizontally. On the Text context toolbar, click the Align Centre button. 9 Use the Straight Line tool to add two short straight lines to the lower right corner of the page. We chose a light grey colour (RGB 203, 203, 203) from the Swatches tab. These will help you to score the tickets or trim the pages ready to use as a ticket book. If you have designed a stub for the ticket, draw another line to score down after printing to make the stub and ticket easy to separate. Using centred alignment means that as your page number extends from 1 to 2 to 3 characters, the entire number will remain centred.
10 At the lower left of the workspace, click the Current Page box (currently displaying Master A) to switch back to normal page view. 12 On the File menu, click Print Preview. Congratulations, you now have the beginnings of a sequentiallynumbered ticket book, using the paper size of your choice and automatically sized tickets based simply on the number of rows and columns specified! 11 On the Pages tab, click the Page Manager button. On the Insert tab, choose to insert 99 pages and click OK. Projects 5 You now have a 100-page publication (printable on just 10 pieces of paper), with the publication automatically set at 10% of your chosen printer page size. Creating numbers with leading zeros You can prefix your automatic numbering with leading zeros using the Page Number Format option. 1 On the Format menu, click Page Number Format... 2 In the dialog, select the Pad to option and enter the number of digits you want the number to be. (For example, for numbers between 1 and 9999, pad to 4 digits.) 3 Click OK. All page numbers below the set number of digits will be displayed with the correct number of leading zeros.
6 Projects Creating event tickets Now that you know how to set up a small publication and automatically create sequentially numbered tickets, why not create your own event tickets? You could create individually numbered tickets for fund raisers, music gigs, club and sports events... The possibilities are endless! Here is an example to get you started. We added the company logo, chosen from Logo Studio, and resized it to fit. We applied square wrap settings so that the frame text didn t overlap. To create the ticket stub number, we placed a text frame and added a page number. In the Page Number Format dialog, we set Pad to 4 digits. On the Transform tab, we rotated the frame 90º. We added another text frame and inserted a page number to create the ticket number. To create visual interest, we added the background image of a park deer. On the Transparency tab, we set the transparency to 70%. A standard text frame contains the event details. On the Line tab, we set a double line style with a 2pt thickness. The text was formatted appropriately using the Text context toolbar.
