1 Black History Month Poster Project Guidelines Pre-K and Kindergarten 1) The poster project is due on Monday, February 16 th, ) You may work together as a family on this project 3) Be as creative as possible. You may decorate your poster using buttons, pictures, and various craft items. Use plenty of color (crayons, markers, etc.) 4) Please locate information on the following person: you may use any type of reference material for details and facts about your person. Please use additional your subject. If you have another person of interest please let me know and I will make the adjustments. : lines. b. In the first section (WHO), write the full name of your subject; below that (WHAT) write two sentences on what that person is famous for. c. In the middle column, as a heading, write the Inventor s Name, then draw or find a picture of the person identified as an inventor. You can either draw or cut out pictures. Try to find a picture of his/her invention to include in this section. BE CREATIVE! d. In the last column (WHERE) section, write where this person was born (city and state) and Finally (WHY) is this person famous in Black History, What has he/she accomplished? Fold the poster into thirds and write Who AM I on the doors of the poster board so that their name and picture is not exposed.. WHO(Person s Name) Famous Person s Full Name WHERE (The Person s Birthplace/Birthdate) WHAT (What are they known for?) One Fascinating Fact about Famous African American WHY is this person famous?

4 Third Grade: African American Entertainers (Past/Present) 1) The poster project is due on Monday, February 16 th, ) Please locate information on the following person: you may use any type of reference material for details and facts about your person. In the first section (WHAT) write two sentences or list accomplishments highlighted in their career and/or what that person is famous for achieving. (Honors/Awards) List any awards earned/ major milestones in the entertainer s career. c. In the middle column, as a heading, write the Entertainer s Full Name, then draw or find a picture of the person of focus. You can either draw or cut out pictures. Try to find pictures of him/her in character or performance. Below Pictures write two fascinating facts about the entertainer. BE CREATIVE! d. In the last column (WHEN), write a timeline of important dates and events in the entertainer s life which may include their birthdate and/or death if applicable. Finally, in the last section, explain how the entertainer has made a difference for others. WHAT (List 5 notable accomplishments of entertainer.) Entertainer s Name: WHEN : Create a timeline of important events in the entertainer s life (At least 5 events and dates.) Place them in chronological order. (Honors/Awards) Two Fascinating Fact about the inventor ( Write down facts that are not commonly known about the entertainer) How: Explain the impact this person has made in making a difference for others.

5 Fourth Grade: Historically Black Universities and Colleges in Alabama 1) The poster project is due on Friday, February 13 th, 2015, however it should be primarily completed by the student. 4) Research topics will be given at school. Students will also do their research at school. Please feel free to use additional resources, such as encyclopedias, books, or the internet if you require more information on your subject. lines or folding the poster into equal sections. b. In the first section (History) write a brief history of the school. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE! This needs to be put in the student s own words. c. In the middle column, as a heading, write the name of the school. Under that, include a picture of the school s crest and/or mascot. You can either draw or cut out pictures. Below Pictures, add (Alumni). List at least one famous/influential person that have attended the school. Include what he/she is known for. d. In the last column (BACKGROUND INFO), tell when the school was founded, who founded it and the date it was founded. Also include any previous name s the school had. SCHOOL HISTORY (Give a brief history of the school) College s Name: of the school crest or mascot BACKGROUND INFO: (-When was the school founded; -Who founded the school; -Date the school was founded -Previous names) ALUMNI (List at least famous/influential person that attended the school. Include what he/she is known for.) **Letters in all capital letters are to be included as a heading for that section.

(Honors/Awards) List any awards earned. c. In the middle column, as a heading, write the person s full name, then draw or find a picture of the person of focus. You can either draw or cut out pictures. Below Pictures write three fascinating facts about the person. BE CREATIVE! d. In the last column (WHEN), write a timeline of important dates and events in the person s life which may include their birthdate and/or death if applicable. Finally, in the last section (IMPACT), explain how the person has made a difference for others. WHAT (List 5 notable accomplishments of this person.) Then include some facts about the historical event and key details that pertain to the historical event. BE CREATIVE! d. In the last column (WHEN), write a timeline of important dates leading up to the event and after the event.. Finally, in the last section, explain how the event has impacted our nation and/or made a difference to others. WHAT (Paragraph with key details of historical event) (WHO: List Names of people or persons responsible of organizing and/or key participants in the historical event) Title: Historical Event (May include more than one photograph/drawing) Three Fascinating Facts about the event ( Write down facts that are not commonly known about the event) WHEN : Create a timeline of important dates/events leading up to the historical event. (At least 5 events and dates.) Place them in chronological order. How: Explain the impact this event has made difference for others African Americans. CCRS: Explain the relationships or interactions between two or more individuals, events, ideas, or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text based on specific information in the text. [RI.5.3] Analyze multiple accounts of the same event or topic, noting important similarities and differences in the point of view they represent. [RI.5.6]
