1 Examples of some of our favorite plants in the garden page 1 Botanical Name: Galvezia juncea Common Name: Baja Bush Snapdragon Type: Perennial evergreen shrub Size: Mature height 3, mature width 2, will grow larger if not trimmed Flower: Red tubular flowers bloom year round here in the garden Leaf: Light green and small Hummingbirds love this plant Comments: Can be sensitive to frost, but will recover nicely, blooms year round in the Maloof garden Botanical Name: Ceanothus Joyce Coulter Common Name: California Lilac Species Family: Rhamnaceae Type: Woody evergreen shrub Size: Mature height 2-5, mature width Flower: Clusters of tiny medium blue flowers bloom in spring Leaf: Dark green Flowers Bees and butterflies Comments: We have several varieties which include low, ground cover, med shrub and small tree sizes Botanical Name: Penstemon Margarita BOP Common Name: Foothill Penstemon selection Type: Herbaceous perennial Size: Mature height 1, mature width 1-3 Flower: Bright blue/purple flowers, bloom in spring-summer Leaf: Green narrow leaf Seeds, which are collected and scattered Bees Comments: BOP is short for beneath our porch where the plant was discovered and proved to be very hearty Botanical Name: Eriogonum Dana Point Common Name: California Buckwheat cultivar Size: Mature height 2-3, mature width 3-4 Flower: Clusters of tiny white flowers 1-2 across, bloom in spring-fall Leaf: Small light green and narrow Provides seeds for birds Birds and bees Comments: White flower clusters change to brown as the flowers change to seeds, goes dormant in summer
