Temperature sensor modification, SCI

1 Instruction only applies for specified Star Cool containers. The Temperature sensor modification contains the following parts: Part Description Part Quantity Number Temperature sensor retrofit kit

2 1. Dismount and remove the collar band attached to the condenser cover (see picture). Important! 2. Dismount the 4 screws for the condenser cover plate and remove it. 3. Loosen the 2 cable glands and pull out the sensors.

3 4. Cut all cable ties and remove the small cover plate next to the condenser soil. (2 screws) 5. Loosen the large cable gland underneath the controller box, then open the controller door and cut the rest of the cable ties for the Tsup1 and Tsup2 sensors. 6. Disconnect the 2 Tsup sensor cables from plug X25 connection on terminal no. 1,2,3,4. (red arrows) and pull out both supply sensor cables.

4 7. Take out the New sensors and push them through the cable gland. 8. Connect the 2 New Tsup sensor cables to plug X25 connection (terminal no. 1,2,3,4). 9. Mount the cable ties using the original anchoring point and tighten them. 10. Push the 2 Tsup sensors all the way to the bottom (approx. 150mm/5.9 inches), tighten the cable glands and coil up the rest of the cable. (see picture) It is important NOT to tighten the 2 Tsup sensor cables to the power cable.

5 11. Reinstall the small cover plate next to the condenser coil, make sure that the screws are securely fastened and then mount the condenser cover plate again. 12. It is very important to reinstall the collar band to secure the discharge tube. 13. To get access to the Tret, Tevap and Tsuc temperature sensors you have to dismount the service hatches. 14. Reach through the left service hatch, loosen the cable gland and pull out the Tret temperature sensor.

6 15. First cut any cable ties then cut the cable about 150mm from the temperature sensor head. Splice the new temperature sensor to the existing cable. It is very important that you heat up the crimp itself, thereby releasing the glue inside to make it water tight. 16. Slide the crimp tube over the sensor head. Make sure it covers the splice and also part of the temperature sensor cable on both sides. Heat up the crimp tube and make sure it has a tight fit around the cable. 17. Remount the Tret temperature sensor cable. Check that it is inserted correctly and apply cable ties to prevent the cable touching the evaporator.

7 18. Reach through the right service hatch to access the Tevap temperature sensor. Cut the cable ties and pull out the Tevap sensor. It might be necessary to remove some of the sealing around the sensor before pulling it out. Then cut the Tevap cable using the same procedure described for replacing the Tret sensor. (See pictures and text in section no ) 19. After the Tevap sensor cable has been spliced with the new sensor, remount the Tevap cable by inserting it into the same location as before. Make sure that the cable is inserted correctly (approx mm/2.4 inches) and use cable ties to secure the cable. 20. Reach through the right service hatch and remove the cover to access the Tsuc temperature sensor. Cut the cable ties and pull out the Tsuc cable. Then cut and splice the Tsuc temperature sensor cable as described above. (See pictures and text in section no )

8 21. Apply heat paste on the metal body of the sensor before installing the Tsuc sensor into the sensor pocket. Use cable ties to secure the Tsuc sensor location. 22. Reinstall the cover and make sure that it is fully inserted. 23. Mount both service hatches. Be sure that all washers and nuts are securely and correctly mounted. Do not tighten the nuts more than 9 Nm. 24. Apply power to the unit and turn it ON.

9 25. To verify that all sensors are working correct. Go into Service Menu, select Manual Mode and run the evaporator fans in high speed for 5 min with closed doors. Then select Information Menu, scroll down to the lines showing the values of the replaced/new sensors and compare the readings. 26. The sensors should all be within +/- 1C. If any sensors are not within this range, use an ice bath to verify the sensor readings at 0C. 27. Turn OFF the unit and attach the Modification OK label at the location shown. (See red circle) 28.
