1 David C Cook Sunday School Lesson Review Summer Quarter June, July & August 2016 The Bible-in-Life Sunday School Lesson Review is designed to help Sunday school leaders understand and maintain uniform teaching direction throughout the quarter. As a pastor you will be able to tell at a glance what the children are studying. Children s sermons, and church-time activities can be organized so that Sunday school themes are supported throughout the entire Sunday morning experience. As a Christian education director you will be able to see the Bible Basis for each age level and the focus of each lesson. You will be able to organize opening programs, plan whole school worship services, order materials needed for activities, and plan for special programs that might be valuable for your students. The Sunday School Lesson Review makes teacher training more efficient and effective since you can see at a glance exactly what each teacher needs to know each Sunday. The Sunday school superintendent will find the Sunday School Lesson Review important for supporting teachers in their planning and preparation. Classroom arrangements, large- or small-group activities, and bulletin board ideas can be prepared ahead of time to make Sunday morning easier for your teachers. David C Cook Bible-in-Life Bible-in-Life curriculum has Unified Themes, which are assigned for each unit (units normally coincide with calendar months). This makes possible unified teacher training, lesson introduction, or review in combined assembly and home activities. A Thorough Bible Study Program for All Ages curriculum targets the unique needs of two year olds in a two-year cycle. and Early curricula use their own Unified Themes in a two-year cycle, which take into consideration the special needs of these children. classes are studying the same book or period of Bible history with agelevel appropriate lessons that support the Unified Theme. These curricula are on a three-year cycle. Adult curriculum is built around the Uniform Lessons Series, which provides comprehensive and in-depth Bible study for the adult learner. 2 Bible coverage correlation for the age levels is achieved by the fact that these age levels are studying the same book of the Bible or the same historic period throughout the three-year cycle (e.g., Paul s missionary journeys and related Pauline Epistles) except for summer topical studies. Memory Verse: God is love. 1 John 4:8 Early Unit 10: God Loves Us Bible Basis: Jesus teaches that God cares for His people (Matt. 6:25-34;; Luke 12:22-31). Lesson Focus: Don t worry, God knows what you need. Unit 10: God Loves Us Bible Basis: God provides a widow to feed Elijah (1 Kings 17:8-16). Lesson Focus: God takes care of us. Memory Verse: God is love. 1 John 4:8 Early Unit 10: God Loves Us Bible Basis: Jesus teaches us how to pray (Luke 11:1-4). Lesson Focus: God is with us wherever we go. Lesson 4, June 26 th Unit 10: God Loves Us Bible Basis: God gives His commandments to Moses (Exod. 19:1-3a, 16-20;; 20:1-17;; 31:18;; Deut. 7:12-13). Lesson Focus: God gives us rules. Memory Verse: God is love. 1 John 4:8 Early Unit 10: God Loves Us Bible Basis: God protects Noah from the Flood (Gen. 6:5-22;; 7:11-17, 24). Lesson Focus: God cares about our safety. Memory Verse: We know and rely on the love God has for us. 1 John 4:16 Unit 10: Together As Believers Bible Basis: Onesimus becomes a Christian and learns to do what is right (Philemon 1-25). Memory Verse: Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise. Proverbs 19:20. Lesson Focus: Christians help us make wise choices. 8 Lesson 5, July 3 rd Unit 11: God Made Us Bible Basis: God made eyes that see (Genesis 1:27-30;; Psalm 119:18;; Proverbs 20:12). Lesson Focus: God made our eyes. Bible Basis: The people listen as Moses tells them about God (Deut. 6:4-6;; 10:12-14). Lesson Focus: We can listen to God s Word. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Matthew 22:37. Early Bible Basis: Noah and his family thank God for His protection (Gen. 8:13-22;; 9:13-15). Lesson Focus: Thanking God shows we love Him. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Matthew 22:37 Bible Basis: The Lord teaches prayer (Matthew 6:5-13). Praying alone (Matthew 14:23;; Mark 1:35). 9 Lesson 6, July 10 th Unit 11: God Made Us Bible Basis: God made ears that hear (Genesis 1:27-30;; Proverbs 20:12). Lesson Focus: God made our ears. Bible Basis: God commands Noah to make and enter the ark (Gen. 6:14-22;; 7:11-17, 24). Lesson Focus: We can obey God. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Matthew 22:37. Early Bible Basis: Josiah finds the Book of the Law and reads it to the people (2 Kings 22:1-11;; 23:1-3). Lesson Focus: We can listen to God s Word. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Matthew 22:37 Bible Basis: Paul prays to have his thorn removed, but God s will is best (2 Corinthians 12:7-10;; Matthew 6:10-11). 10 Lesson 7, July 17 th Unit 11: God Made Us Bible Basis: I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Genesis 1:27-30;; Psalm 47:1;; 100:3;; 119:73;; 139:13-14). Lesson Focus: God made our hands. Bible Basis: Noah thanks God for protecting him and his family (Gen. 8:13-22;; 9:13-15). Lesson Focus: We can thank God. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Matthew 22:37. Early Bible Basis: Jonah finally obeys God (Jonah 1 3). Lesson Focus: Obeying shows we love God. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Matthew 22:37 Bible Basis: A proud Pharisee wants everyone to notice his prayer, while a humble tax collector is ashamed of his sins (Luke 18:9-14). Memory Verse: I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind. Jeremiah 17:10 Lesson Focus: God sees our hearts, not just our actions. Bible Basis: Joash and people bring offerings (2 Chron. 24:1-14). Lesson Focus: We can give to God. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Matthew 22:37. Early Bible Basis: Solomon asks for wisdom (1 Kings 3:1-15). Lesson Focus: Making good choices pleases God. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Matthew 22:37 Bible Basis: Paul lists types of prayers and people to pray for (1 Timothy 2:1-8). Memory Verse: Always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18 Lesson Focus: God wants us to pray for all kinds of people. Upper Bible Basis: A master who forgave condemns an unforgiving servant (Matthew 18:21-35;; 6:12). Bible Basis: Nehemiah and the people build a wall (Neh. 2:4-6, 11-20;; 4:6;; 6:15). Lesson Focus: We can work together for God. Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Matthew 22:37. Early Bible Basis: David expresses trust in God s care (Psalm 23). Lesson Focus: We can trust God to care for us Memory Verse: Love the Lord your God with all your heart. 13 Lesson 10, August 7 th Unit 12: At Church Bible Basis: Paul wrote about the Christian life and David wrote about worship (Ephesians 5:19-20;; Psalm 33:1-3). Lesson Focus: At church we sing. Unit 12: We Love Others Bible Basis: Jesus tells the people the Great Commandment (Matt. 22:34-40). Lesson Focus: Jesus teaches us to love. Memory Verse: Always try to be kind to each other. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 Early Unit 12: We Love Others Bible Basis: Jesus gives the greatest commandment (Mark 12:28-34). Lesson Focus: We are to love God and each other. Memory Verse: Love your neighbor as yourself. 14 Lesson 11, August 14 th Unit 12: At Church Bible Basis: The disciples prayed together (Acts 1:13-14;; 2:42-47). Lesson Focus: At church we pray. Unit 12: We Love Others Bible Basis: Jesus tells the parable of the unforgiving servant (Matt. 18:21-35). Lesson Focus: Jesus teaches us to forgive. Memory Verse: Always try to be kind to each other. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 Early Unit 12: We Love Others Bible Basis: Jesus teaches about forgiveness (Matt. 18:21-35). Lesson Focus: Love means we keep on forgiving. Memory Verse: Love your neighbor as yourself. Mark 12:31 Bible Basis: Jeremiah has Baruch write God s Word a second time after Jehoiakim destroys it (Jeremiah 36;; Isaiah 40:8). An introduction to the books of poetry and prophecy. 15 Lesson 12, August 21 st Unit 12: At Church Bible Basis: A widow gives an offering (Mark 12:41-44;; 2 Corinthians 8:1-15). Lesson Focus: At church we give to God. Unit 12: We Love Others Bible Basis: Jesus tells the story of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). Lesson Focus: Jesus teaches us to be kind to everyone. Memory Verse: Always try to be kind to each other. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 Early Unit 12: We Love Others Bible Basis: The early church helps those in need (1 Cor. 16:1-3;; 2 Cor. 8:1-7;; 9:7-12). Lesson Focus: Give cheerfully to those in need. Memory Verse: Love your neighbor as yourself. Mark 12:31 Bible Basis: The Gospel writers tell the story of Jesus (Luke 1:1-4;; John 4:42;; 20:28-31).
