Assistant: Guten Tag, wie kann ich Ihnen helfen? Susan: Good afternoon. Sorry, I m from England and my German is not very good. Can I talk to you in English? Assistant: Yes, of course. Susan has just seen a cabinet that she really likes. Susan: Wow, that one looks great, but I think it's a little bit too big. Assistant: Well, what about this one in the corner? It looks stylish and it's on special offer right now, too. Susan: Hmm, it looks good and it's the right size, but it looks like it might be difficult to hang up on the wall. I d probably need a lot of tools to get that done, I suppose. Assistant: Don't worry. The wall plugs and the plasterboard screws you need are supplied with the product. Susan: OK, great, and what s the price for the bathroom cabinet? Assistant: Let me see. It s.00 exactly! Susan: OK, then I ll take it. Where s the cash desk? Assistant: It s over there, just behind the garden tools. Susan: Thank you for all your help! Assistant: You re welcome. Videoskript V Fairtrade clothing line News report: Top Shop launching a new line of clothing under the Fairtrade label Announcer: Now, how often do you actually look at the labels in clothes you buy to see which country they were made in, and, if you did have doubts about where they came from and the conditions people were working in, would you decide not buy them? Well, today Top Shop is taking a lead by launching a Fairtrade range of clothes, but the question is, are shoppers really that bothered? Hugh Pym has been finding out. Hugh Pym: First there was Fairtrade tea and coffee, then Fairtrade cotton, all with the guarantee that growers in developing nations were getting a fair wage. Now there s Fairtrade clothing with this range on sale from today at Top Shop. They ve come directly from this women s cooperative in Ghana which trades under the name Global Mamas. Because the women own the business, they stand to benefit from their first deal with a mainstream British fashion store. So here in the middle of a big trading floor of conventionally-made garments is the Ethical Fashion Display, priced at around 0 to 5 each a little bit more than some comparable items. The question is will customers pay that? Do they care much anyway about where their clothing is made? Shopper : Well, they re really really nice emm and I d definitely think about buying something that was ethically made and traded. Hugh Pym: These are made in Ghana by a cooperative. Is that important to you, or are you more concerned about the fashion and the price? Shopper : The fashion and the price definitely! Hugh Pym: But it still represents a tiny proportion of the clothing ranges on sale here, and ethical campaigners say Top Shop and other retailers still have to prove this isn t just a token gesture. Ethical campaigner: The real issue, to be credible for any brand, is to apply international labour standards not just to one garment but to every garment and every product that they sell, and that means investing in the business, really knowing what your suppliers are doing, wherever they are.

5 Unit Hugh Pym: Clothing made from Fairtrade cotton is growing in popularity at Sainsbury s and Marks & Spencer. Today s launch goes one step further: Fairtrade clothing manufacture. Its future as always is in the hands of British shoppers. 5
