3 1 Glossary of Terms ANO BGA CAA CFI Glider SLMG SSMG TMG Air Navigation Order (2009).The law as applicable to all pilots and operators of aircraft in the UK. British Gliding Association. The body in the UK that is granted delegated authority from the CAA to oversee and regulate Gliding in the UK. Civil Aviation Authority. The body that is responsible for all flying carried out in the UK. Chief Flying Instructor. He is approved by the BGA and is responsible for all flying operations and procedures at Stratford on Avon Gliding Club. An aircraft capable of sustained flight without a method of propulsion. Self Launching Motor Glider. A glider equipped with a fully retractable method of propulsion which is capable of launching under its own power. Self Sustaining Motor Glider. A glider equipped with a fully retractable method of propulsion but is not capable of launching under its own power. Touring Motor Glider. A glider equipped with a method of propulsion utilising a fixed or feathered propeller.

4 2 Scope of Document This document defines the operational procedures for the operation of TMG and SSMG/SLMG aircraft from Snitterfield Airfield. In addition it defines procedures that will be applied to any visiting aircraft, that is aircraft that are not based at Snitterfield Airfield but intend to land there. This document does not (and cannot) impose operational procedures for aircraft of any type that are transiting the area. These aircraft (and all aircraft operating from Snitterfield Airfield) must comply with the law as determined in the Air Navigation Order (2009). The CFI of Stratford on Avon Gliding Club reserves the right to update or amend these procedures whenever a change is necessitated by: - Any change to the law - A change of operational procedures enforced by the BGA or CAA - Safety considerations Whenever a change is required, the local planning authority will be informed and the reasons why the change needs to be implemented explained.

5 3 Operation of SLMG or SSMG 3.1 Anyone wishing to base a SLMG or SSMG at Snitterfield Airfield must be a full flying member of Stratford on Avon Gliding Club. 3.2 The owner of such an aircraft must obtain the permission of the CFI before the aircraft is brought to the airfield. 3.3 The aircraft must be equipped with a means of flight logging which is capable of detecting engine deployment. 3.4 The owner must activate flight logging for all flights departing from or arriving at Snitterfield Airfield, and keep such logs for a period of six months. 3.5 The owner must submit any and all flight logs at the request of the CFI. Failure to comply will result in the Disciplinary Procedures outlined in section 5 being invoked. 3.6 SLMGs must always be launched by winch and must never be launched under their own power. 3.7 Use of the engine is prohibited within a 2 nautical mile radius of the airfield (See appendix 7.1) 3.8 All pilots who intend to fly a SSMG or SLMG from Snitterfield Airfield must sign a declaration stating their understanding of these conditions. 3.9 Any breach of these procedures will result in the disciplinary procedures being invoked detailed in section 5.

6 4 Operation of TMG 4.1 TMGs can only be launched from Snitterfield Airfield between the hours 9am and 8pm. 4.2 No more than 15 launches will be carried out by TMGs on any day. Any visiting TMG will contribute to this total, as will touch and go flights. For the avoidance of doubt, this number is absolute and unused launches on any day cannot be transferred to any other day. 4.3 All movements (launches or landings) must be logged in accordance with both Club procedures and the law. 4.4 Anyone wishing to base a TMG at Snitterfield Airfield must be a full flying member of Stratford on Avon Gliding Club. 4.5 The owner of such an aircraft must obtain the permission of the CFI before the aircraft is brought to the airfield. 4.6 The aircraft must be equipped with a means of flight logging capable of detecting engine use. 4.7 The owner must activate flight logging for all flights departing from or arriving at Snitterfield Airfield, and keep such logs for a period of six months. 4.8 The owner must submit any and all flight logs at the request of the CFI. Failure to comply will result in the Disciplinary Procedures outlined in section 5 being invoked. 4.9 Engine take-off power checks must never exceed 60 seconds in duration All flights carried out by any TMG outbound from or inbound to Snitterfield Airfield must comply with the TMG No-Fly zones as detailed in Appendix All departures of TMGs from Snitterfield Airfield must comply with the TMG Departure Routes as detailed in Appendix 7.3 or Appendix 7.4, whichever is applicable on the day All arrivals of TMGs to Snitterfield Airfield must use the designated circuit in force on the day All pilots who intend to fly TMG from Snitterfield Airfield must sign a declaration stating their understanding of these conditions Any breach of these procedures will result in the disciplinary procedures being invoked detailed in section 5 Disciplinary Procedures.

7 5 Disciplinary Procedures 5.1 These procedures are in accordance with the existing disciplinary procedures invoked for breach of flying regulations at Stratford on Avon Gliding Club. 5.2 The CFI has the ultimate authority to invoke these procedures. 5.3 Should any flight log prove that any procedure outlined in this document has been breached the pilot in charge of the flight will be not be allowed to fly in any type of motorised glider pending the results of the inquiry by the CFI. 5.4 The CFI will investigate the breach of procedure, and if in his opinion any procedure has been breached then he will apply sanctions as follows: 1 st Incident: Identify any remedial training, and disqualify pilot from being pilot in charge until such training has been successfully carried out to the satisfaction of the CFI. Additionally the CFI may wish to suspend all flying privileges for an appropriate period. 2 nd Incident Suspension of all flying privileges for 28 days, plus identification of any remedial training that must be satisfactorily carried out after the suspension period. 3 rd Incident All flying privileges will be permanently suspended. 5.5 The pilot in question has the right of appeal only on the grounds of compliance with the procedures. The CFI has the final say on all sanctions imposed.

8 6 Visiting Aircraft Information regarding the procedures for anyone wishing to land at Snitterfield Airfield in a TMG or SSMG/SLMG will be posted on our website. This will include how to obtain permission (if required), these procedures in full and the availability (or otherwise) of fuel. 6.1 Pilots of unpowered gliders Pilots of unpowered gliders may land without prior permission Pilots of unpowered gliders must request landing instructions prior to joining the circuit Pilots of unpowered gliders must be in current practice on winch launching in order to be allowed to take off from Snitterfield Airfield 6.2 Pilots of SSMG/SSMG aircraft Pilots of such aircraft may land at Snitterfield Airfield at any time during normal operations at the airfield Pilots of such aircraft will only be allowed to launch subject to their acceptance of the procedures outlined in section Pilots of SSMG/SLMG must be in current practice on winch launching in order to be allowed to take off from Snitterfield Airfield 6.3 Pilots of TMG aircraft No visiting pilot of a TMG will be given permission to land unless prior permission (in writing or by ) has been granted by the CFI or his appointed deputy Prior permission will not be granted unless the visiting pilot accepts and understands the procedures as applied to TMGs at Stratford on Avon Gliding Club The pilot of any TMG must seek landing instructions on the day (either by phone or by radio) and comply with the circuit procedures in force. 6.4 Pilots of all other types of aircraft (including microlights, light aircraft and helicopters) Permission to land will be refused in all cases except where there is a stated emergency In the event of a landing at Snitterfield Airfield by such an aircraft, the local planning authority will be informed as soon as practically possible after the event Subsequent take off of the aircraft will be prohibited until authority to do so has been obtained from the local planning authority (unless to carry out life saving).

9 7 Appendices 7.1 SSMG/SLMG No Engine Zone Use of the engine of any SSMG/SLMG inbound to or outbound from Snitterfield Airfield is prohibited within the area as detailed below.

10 7.2 TMG No Fly Zones Any TMG inbound to or outbound from Snitterfield Airfield is prohibited to fly within the areas detailed below.

11 7.3 TMGDeparture Route (West) All TMG departing to the west must adhere to the following: - Must start their departure from the eastern end of runway 27 - After takeoff proceed on a heading 270 degrees - On attaining a height of 1,000 set off on track - Must always obey no fly zones

12 7.4 TMG Departure Route (East) All TMG departing to the east must adhere to the following: - Must start their departure from the western end of runway 09 - After takeoff proceed on a heading 090 degrees - On attaining a height of 500, either: o Turn on to heading 030 degrees o Or turn on to heading 120 degrees - On attaining a height of 1,000 set off on track - Must always obey no fly zones
