1 PROGRAMME REGULATIONS Bachelor of Studies Programme Schedule To be read in conjunction with the Bachelors Generic Regulations. 1. Programme Schedule This Programme Schedule applies to the Bachelor of Studies (BAS) Level 7, 360 credits. 2. Programme Specific Admission 2.1 Specific Admission To be admitted to this programme, all applicants must meet the requirements set out in the Bachelors Generic Regulations. In addition, all applicants must complete an interview with an academic member of the programme at which they present a hardcopy of their portfolio. 3. Discretionary Admission Applicants under the age of 20 may be considered for Discretionary Admission if they have: a. A minimum total of 72 NCEA credits in their best of four subjects, including English, at Level 2, or equivalent, or b. Have successfully completed courses in another qualification at a minimum of level 4 in a related discipline, including the National Diploma in Technology, New Zealand Certificate in Drafting or qualifications in Interior or Spatial Design. 4. Selection Criteria When the number of eligible applications for admission exceeds the number of places available, the following selection criteria will be applied: a. Previous academic and/or occupational history; b. Communication skills; c. Motivation to complete the programme; d. General aptitude. Bachelor Of Studies Effectictive Sem 2, 2016 Page 1
2 The criteria are not ranked in any order. Applicants who meet the greatest number of criteria will be the preferred applicants. 5. Selection Process 5.1 Selection will be made by a subcommittee of the Programme Committee set up for the purpose and with the delegated authority of that committee to offer places to applicants. 6. In this instance, two credit studios are required in place of the 30 credit studio at the same level, as outlined below. Bachelor Of Studies Effectictive Sem 2, 2016 Page 5

Assessment 8.1 Assessment basis All written assessments are achievement based using an 11 point grading scale. 8.2 Calculation of Course Grades a. The final grade for a course shall be calculated from the aggregation of all summative assessment activities according to the following table. Bachelor Of Studies Effectictive Sem 2, 2016 Page 6

In order to achieve a passing grade for a course in which there is a final examination, all students must achieve at least 40% in the final examination for that course. c. Students may be awarded one of the following grades for the appropriate criteria. Table 5: Grade Criteria Grade Meaning Criteria CR Credit Recognition The student has applied for and been awarded a credit recognition from another qualification. DEF Deferred The course result has been deferred. CTG Course Continuing For any course that runs for more than one semester where the student has not yet completed the final summative assessment. DNC Did not complete A student has either withdrawn after the 75% date of the course has been taught or not attempted a compulsory item of assessment within a course. No Credits earned. W Withdrawn If a student withdraws from a course after the 10% date of the course is completed and up to or at the 75% date of the course. No credits earned. ES Student Exchange Where a student has completed an approved interinstitutional exchange and it is not appropriate for another grade to be awarded. 8.3 Conditions applying to restricted passes a. The Programme Committee may award a restricted pass in a course that was narrowly failed and where there is evidence that marginal failure is compensated by good overall performance. b. Courses in which restricted passes are granted will not serve as pre-requisites unless approval for such an award is given by the Programme Committee. 8.4 Resits and Resubmissions Students who narrowly fail a course in which there is only one summative assessment event are entitled to resit the assessment event at the discretion of the Programme Committee, and attain a maximum pass grade of C Carry over Coursework Marks a. Where a student is required to repeat a course, permission may be granted to carry over an assignment mark for that course (excluding exam marks and Design Bachelor Of Studies Effectictive Sem 2, 2016 Page 7
8 Studio projects). Such approval will be at the discretion of the Programme Committee and where given, will be limited to assignments done in the previous academic year, and where passing grades for the assignment are B- or higher. b. Students should submit their request to carry over Coursework marks in writing to the Programme Committee within 4 weeks from the commencement of the course. 8.6 Re-enrolment A student may re-enrol in a course that she/he has successfully completed in order to achieve a higher grade. 9. Transitional Arrangements These transitional arrangements cater for those students who were admitted into the Bachelor of Architecture Programme in 2007 and then subsequently transferred to the BAS programme. 9.1 BArch 2007 admissions Students admitted into the BArch in 2007 will complete an alternative first year of study as follows: Table 6: Transitional arrangements Level Course No. Course Name Credits Pre-requisites Design Studio 1a Design Studio 1b Visual Communication 1a Visual Communication 1b Critical Studies 1b Architecture and History Technology 1a - Intro to Technology Technology 2b Building Services Level Critical Studies 2a - Architecture & History 2 Technology 2a - Construction Practice The remainder of the programme will be completed as outlined in Table 2 in Section 6.2. 9 Those students enrolled in the Bachelor of Architecture programme up to and including 2006 who wish to exit with the Bachelor of Studies qualification must successfully complete 360 credits accumulated in the pattern set out in Table 7 from the courses listed in Table 8. Where a student undertaking transitional arrangements is required to enrol into one of the above-listed former courses during the following rules will apply: a. Student has completed 6313 Critical Studies 4 prior to 20 and has not yet completed Technical Studio course, student must complete 71 Technical Studio in while the transitional arrangements are in place. b. Student has completed 71 Technical Studio prior to 20 and has not yet completed Critical Studies 4 course, student must complete 6313 Critical Studies 4 in while the transitional arrangements are in place c. Where neither 6313 Critical Studies or 71 Technical Studio is completed prior to 20, the student will enrol (from 20 onwards) in the new courses 6113 Technical Studio and 7311 Critical Studies 4 This transitional arrangement will expire on 31st December Commencement These regulations came into force in Semester 2, Bachelor Of Studies Effectictive Sem 2, 2016 Page 11
