Buttons in the Bottom Right Corner Normal Displays one slide at a time Slide Sorter Small Thumbnails (reorder, duplicate, hide, transitions) Slide Show Plays the slide show full screen Notes Add speaker notes to each slide to help you remember what you're going to say when you present. 4 Reorder Slides (Slide Sorter View) Click and drag to put the slides in a different order Ctrl + Click to select more than one slide Ctrl + Drag to duplicate a slide Move Textbox 1. Position the mouse on the edge of the text box to get the 4 arrow mouse 2. Drag to the new location 3. Or use the arrow keys to nudge 4. 8 Format Painter (Copy Formatting) 1. Format text/shape anyway you want. - Font, size, bold, italic, underline, color. 2. Highlight the text/shape you want to copy the formatting. 3. Double click on the format painter on the Home ribbon. 4. Your mouse will now look like a paint brush. 5. Drag your mouse over text/shape you want to apply the formatting to. 6. Click on the format painter to turn it off. Format Painter Cool Text (Fun text to use for titles) 1. Open the Internet 2. Search on Cool Text or go to 8

9 You can add different types of shapes such as lines, basic shapes, block arrows, callout, stars and banners to your documents. 1. Click the Insert ribbon, then click on Shapes. 2. Click on a shape. 3. The pointer changes to +. This allows you to control where and how big the shape will be. Drag this + pointer to draw the shape. Move: Position the pointer over the shape so that it changes to a 4-way arrow. Click hold and drag to the new location. Or you can click on the shape and use the arrow keys to move the shape. Resize: Click hold and drag the handles until you reach the desired size of your shape. Drawing Lines Drawing Shapes in PowerPoint You can draw straight lines, arrows, curved, or free-form lines. 1. Click the line style. 2. Position the + pointer and drag the pointer so that the line will appears on your screen. 3. To change the line color, weight of line or line style you must use the Format Ribbon. Select the Shape Outline dropdown to change the color, weight or dashes. Drawing/Resizing Squares and Circles Use the rectangle and oval tool to draw squares and circles. When drawing hold the SHIFT key when you drag to draw the shape. To resize the shape and keep a square and circle hold the SHIFT key when you make the shape bigger or smaller. 9

10 Dimensions/Size Flip/Rotate Order of objects Add more shapes Once your shape is drawn the Shape Format Ribbon appears. You can change the way your shape looks. Shape Outline Shape Fill Align Group Preset Shape Styles Shadow, Glow, Bevel Align Objects (Line up shapes) Select multiple objects, click the first object, and then press and hold CTRL while you click the other objects. Align Left Align Center Align Right Align Top Align Middle Align objects Middle Align objects Center Align Bottom Distribute Objects (Evenly spread out shapes) Select multiple objects, click the first object, and then press the CTRL while you click the other objects. Distribute Horizontally.(Left to right) Distribute Vertically. (Top to bottom) Distribute objects Horizontally Distribute objects Vertically Grouping Objects (Make the shapes into 1 shape) Select multiple objects, CTRL + Click Grouping lets you flip, rotate, move, or resize all shapes or objects at the same time as though they were a single shape. You can also change the formatting of all of the shapes in a group at one time, by changing the fill color or adding a shadow, for example. Grouping should be done after you align objects. Shape Tips: Shift + Oval = Circle Shift + Rectangle = Square Ctrl + Drag = Duplicate Ctrl + Click = Selects more than one object Order of objects: Front Places objects in the front of all other objects Back Places objects behind all other objects Bring Forward Moves the object higher in the stack 7 Send Backward Moves the object lower in the stack 10

11 Transitions (Effect you see when you play your slide show) 1. Slide Sorter View 2. Animations Ribbon 3. Transition down arrow 4. Set the speed (Slow, Medium, Fast) 5. Set the PowerPoint to run automatically after a certain amount of time 6. Apply to all will apply the same transition to ALL of your slides Star represents transition Timing for the slide 11
