Packets of information and flyers will be at the meeting. June 10th - Presentation by Social Security about working and keeping your social security benefits at 3pm at the Rehab Center! Come ready to ask questions! ALL DO IT DEAF EVENTS ARE free of charge for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing youth. Transportation from Rehab to event and back provided. June 17th - Do It Deaf event in Akron at Goodyear Heights Metro Park. June 19th - Do It Deaf event in Canton at North Canton Skate & Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing News

July 22nd - Do It Deaf event in Akron at the Monroe Falls Metro Park. July 25th - There will be a block party on Sterkel Blvd (the same road that the Rehab Center is on) from 10a-3p. Games, food, and fun for the whole community. July 27-Aug 7th - Young Adult Summer Program for Youth Who are Deaf-Blind in Sands Point, NY. A flyer can be picked up in Deaf Services.

Aug 12th - Do It Deaf event at Kent State University. Aug 20th - Do It Deaf event in Lexington at the Infield. Transportation will NOT be provided to this event.

5 Introducing: Brandy Thompson-Barker We are very excited to bring on a new members to our staff: Brandy. Brandy has a Deaf Studies certificate from CSCC and has a bachelor s degree in social work. Brandy is training to be our c-print captionist. What is C-Print? C-print is almost like closed captioning for real life. Brandy will go to assignments, just like an interpreter, but instead of signing, she will be typing what the hearing individual is saying. This will NOT be used for everyone, but only if you want it. We hope to be able to start this service by August. Introducing: Hayley Reeves We are very excited to bring in a new full time staff interpreter, Hayley. Hayley was a practicum student with us since January and became a full time staff interpreter after she graduated from her interpreting program at Tri-C. She is originally from a small town outside of Cleveland. She is excited to be here in Mansfield and serve the Deaf and Hard-of- Hearing individuals in this area. Deaf Services Report Facts about Cochlear Implants Travel: According to TSA, you CAN be screened at security at airports without taking off hearing aids or cochlear implants, but you may need to be scanned again if the alarm goes off. MRI: People with cochlear implants CANNOT be in the same room as an MRI scanner except with special cochlear implants. X-Ray: It is perfectly safe to get a head x-ray if you have a cochlear implant. This can also help determine if your cochlear implant is safe for the MRI scanner.
