RCx typically focuses on energy using equipment such as mechanical equipment, lighting and related controls and usually optimizes existing system performance, rather than relying on major equipment replacement, typically resulting in improved indoor air quality, comfort, controls, energy and resource efficiency. Develop a comprehensive list of energy efficiency opportunities including project cost, energy and cost savings, payback, and emissions reduction information 2. Identify and implement no and low cost operational improvements that result in immediate energy use and cost savings 3. Enable more strategic energy efficiency investments for remaining EECBG and future capital funding 4. Project goals evolved leading to additional benefits 3

5 City of Denver, CO Energy Performance GOAL 20% Reduction in Energy Intensity by 2020 from a 2011 Baseline CHALLENGE COMMITMENT 6.64 Million Square Feet PROGRESS TO DATE Cumulative (vs. Baseline) 6% Annual (2012) 6% Portfolio Energy Performance Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Denver's portfolio consists of more than 140 buildings and 7 million square feet. Since 2011, Denver has improved energy performance by 6 percent. Energy savings have been achieved by implementing various capital improvements, retrocommissioning in numerous facilities including 5 of the City's largest energy users, and creating a culture of efficiency. Source EUI (kbtu/sq. ft.) EUI and Percent Improvement vs. Baseline Baseline 2012 Energy Performance by Facility Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all facilities can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy. Denver has achieved energy performance improvement of greater than 6% at more than 50 of its facilities. There are forty facilities that have experienced an increase in Source EUI. Some of these have recently expanded hours as a result of the improved economy. We will continue to work with these facilities to identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
