Using the teacher s manual, analyze each 2 nd grade reading lesson in Rigby Literacy by Design and identify which CCSS are being addressed in each lesson. Create a document with this information. Who is responsible Target Date or Timeline Evidence of Effectiveness All members of the October 24, We will have a team November 16, 2012 completed document that shows how our reading curriculum aligns with the 2 nd grade Common Core reading standards. Conduct a Gap Analysis to determine what standards are not being met or addressed by the current reading curriculum. Create a document with this information. School Goal(s): Improve student achievement in reading comprehension by developing common formative at each grade level to monitor progress and guide instruction. Strategies and Action Steps 1. Compile the 2 nd grade formative assessments that are currently used in reading. Analyze the questions and determine how well/if/what parts align with the Common Core reading Standards. Who is responsible Target Date or Timeline Evidence of Effectiveness October 24, We will have a November 16, 2012 document indicating which assessments currently being used align with the CC reading standards and areas where assessments need to be developed. Our SMART Goal: The number of students receiving a grade of 3 (meets standards) or 4 (exceeds standards) in reading on the June progress report cards will increase by 5% for the school 2. Intervention can be provided before or after school or by support staff during the school day. The number of students qualifying to receive intervention at the beginning of this initiative will decrease by May The number of students receiving a 3 or 4 on

SPINOUT TEACHER, SPED teacher and Basic Skills teacher will create/compile resources that parents will be able to use to support their children with reading comprehension at home. November 16 th - December 20 th Parent Survey in May, 2013 Useful handout or webpage with reading comprehension resources will be created for parents to reference at home.

School Goal(s): Reading fluency scores will improve on AIMSweb ing Team SMART Goal Our Current Reality: Last year, 85% of the 2 nd grade students scored average, above average, or well above average on the AIMSweb reading fluency assessment Our SMART Goal: This year, at least 90% of the 2 nd grade students will score average, above average, or well above average on the AIMSweb reading fluency assessment Strategies and Action Steps 1. Provide 15 minutes of time for independent reading each day so that students can practice reading fluency independently. 2. Students will practice and perform Readers Theater plays 4 times a year as another form of reading instruction so that students can practice reading fluency skills. October 2012 December 2012 February 2013 April 2013 Students will read the script with fluency and accuracy.

Meet with all students at least two times per week in small- guided reading groups to teach and practice reading fluency strategies. If a student is below average, they will meet with the basic skills teacher or SPED teacher every day for a 40- minute intervention block of time. 4. Progress- monitor all students in reading fluency once a month during small- group guided reading instruction.
