1 Plan a Pilgrimage Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament Our Lady of the Angels Monastery 3222 County Road 548 Hanceville, Alabama U.S.A. And He said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while." Mark 6:31
2 Dear Pilgrim, Thank you for your interest in making a pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville and to EWTN in Irondale. Although we are about sixty miles apart, we are united in our purpose of adoring our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament and teaching the faith, in order to draw each of our pilgrims closer to Jesus. The Shrine has an emphasis on Eucharistic Spirituality. Catechesis, in order to present and preserve our faith, is the primary focus at EWTN. As you open yourself to the Holy Spirit, you will know God more fully, love Him more faithfully, and have an increased desire to serve Him more zealously. Please read the enclosed information that will help you plan for and enjoy your pilgrimage. Highlighting a few things from the packet may be useful to you: LODGING: Hotels near both the Shrine and EWTN are listed. To receive the discount rate, you must tell them when you register that you are a Shrine/EWTN pilgrim. There are also a few guest houses in Hanceville listed. SHUTTLES: Some hotels in the EWTN area have shuttle service. For the guests of the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express, there is a round-trip shuttle between the hotels, EWTN, and the Birmingham International Airport. (Note: There are no shuttle services from the hotels in the Irondale or Hanceville areas to the Shrine.) TRANSPORTATION: If you prefer not to drive to Alabama, you may fly into the Birmingham International Airport, come on the Amtrak train, or use the Greyhound Bus service. You will need to set up your own transportation from these terminals. LIVE SHOWS: If you would like to be in the audience of some of our live shows, please contact us as soon as possible: Phone: (205) option 2; pilgrimages@ewtn.com or FAX: (205) Please furnish you name, telephone number, zip code, show date(s), and the number of seats wanted. There is no charge to attend a live show, but because of limited space in the studio it is wise to reserve seats as soon as possible. GIFT SHOPS: Our gift shops each have a unique selection of beautiful statues, crucifixes, rosaries, books, videos, and many other holy reminders to nurture your faith. The Shrine s gift shop is open Monday through Saturday, 8:00AM to 4:45PM. The EWTN gift shop is open 8AM to 4:30PM Monday through Friday, and 8AM to 3PM on Saturday. Be sure to visit both! EWTN STUDIO TOURS: 2:45PM CT -- each day Monday through Friday. Meet in the Gift Shop Lobby.
3 MOTHER SAYS : In order to show respect to our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament, as well as to show a spirit of charity to the Nuns, the Priests and Brothers, and the other pilgrims who are Adoring our Lord, we request the following: 1. Please observe SILENCE when you enter the Shrine and the EWTN Chapel. 2. We encourage you to dress comfortably, but modestly. Please do not wear sleeveless tops, tank tops, shorts, or mini-skirts/skirts above the knee. Ladies may wear slacks. 3. If at all possible, please do not leave Mass before the Blessed Sacrament has been exposed and the Nuns have finished singing at the Shrine. 4. Please do not take pictures inside the Shrine. There are many lovely pictures and postcards which you may purchase at the Gift Shop in Castle San Miguel. DAILY ACTIVITIES: Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in making your own personal pilgrimage each day. He is the Perfect Guide on our journey of faith. You are welcome to participate in all activities planned for each day. The schedule for both sites is posted at the Shrine s reception desk, at EWTN s studio reception desk and in St. Michael s Hall next to the Chapel. Also, if the weather permits, many of our pilgrims are enriched by personal devotions and prayer outside on the beautiful grounds at both sites. Our Lord loves you perfectly, unconditionally, and eternally. As you make your arrangements to come here on pilgrimage, invite the Holy Spirit to guide you and to prepare your heart to commune with our Lord Jesus, Who is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. When you have responded to His call to come apart and rest awhile, in order to be refreshed and renewed in His Living Presence, He will no doubt reveal His love to you in new ways. As you empty yourself and open your soul to Him in childlike faith, He will meet you where you are, draw you to His Sacred Heart, and bless you with every spiritual blessing that you need. He will comfort you where you hurt, heal your woundedness, forgive your sins, strengthen your faith, give you a sense of purpose, encourage you in good works, and send you back into your world with the confident assurance that He will never leave you or forsake you. He will be with you always, as you share the Good News of His Truth and Love with those around you. Daily He desires to renew His Covenant with you and keep His promises to you, which were sealed with His Precious Blood. His mercies are new and fresh each morning. What a faithful and loving God we are privileged to serve! Mother Angelica, the Nuns, the Priests and Brothers, and many of us here are praying for you. God bless you, as you strive to live a holy life, pleasing to Him in a world that so desperately needs His Light, His Love, His Truth, and His Peace. We are looking forward to your coming in God s time. 12 Visit Our New Shrine Priest Retreat Website Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest awhile (Mk. 6:31). The Knights of the Holy Eucharist were pleased to announce the launch of their new Priest Retreat website, on January , the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. Intended as a resource for priests, deacons, brothers, and seminarians seeking a time of private retreat at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Alabama, home of Mother Angelica and the Poor Clare Nuns of Perpetual Adoration, the site provides information on accommodations, travel, daily schedules, and reservations, as well as contact information. Each year over 200 consecrated men enjoy the beautiful accommodations provided free of charge at the residence of the Knights of the Holy Eucharist. During their time at the Shrine, priests, deacons, brothers, and seminarians are able to spend time in personal prayer, walk through the rolling hills, and attend or celebrate Mass either in the Knights private chapel or at the Shrine. Nestled just a short walk from the Shrine, The Barn, a modern building with a rustic look, has twelve fully furnished guest rooms with private baths and a beautiful private chapel for prayer and Mass. These beautiful retreat accommodations are available free of charge. Hospitality is provided by the Knights, and all meals are complimentary. During their stay, our guests are allowed to join community activities. Come see us and enjoy a restful personal retreat at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of the Angels Monastery, located in the peaceful countryside of northern Alabama.
