The Harz mountain range has significantly lower temperatures and more rain and snow than the surrounding land. This is the harsh workplace of forest contractor Andreas Truskaller. I started my business in 2000, having now a staff of 14 employees and several forestry machines. I have always relied on Valmet machines with Nokian tyres. It has been in the family. My father also valued high quality and long lasting products. And I cannot agree more; we must be able to trust the tools of our trade, Truskaller emphasizes. Best traction The Harz area hills are very steep and operating the machines often requires much effort and attention. Snowy and icy conditions make the ground very slippery and demanding. With more than 15 cm of snow the machine can easily start sliding sideways. Therefore we need tyres that maintain a firm grip. In some conditions it is not possible to use tracks so the radial tyres provide the solution. Therefore, for his machines, Truskaller definitely prefers the Nokian Forest Rider. The two companies also joined forces to build a new, integrated order system that allows Nokian Heavy Tyres to deliver complete tyre packages in accordance with Ponsse s task queue. Now the co-operation has been expanded to the rim manufacturer Levypyörä Oy, to further increases delivery flexibility. Ponsse enters its orders into the system that reaches both us and the Nokian Heavy Tyres. We in turn reach our common end customer. This allows us to optimise the entire supply chain. The landscape features breathtakingly beautiful mountains and extinct volcanoes. The volcanic upland area, Massif Central, cuts across the landscape. We work throughout the year, sometimes in very difficult conditions. Due to the humid climate and steep slopes, chains are required on tyres. 36 Liquid and salt ballasting Liquid and salt ballasting LIQUID AND SALT BALLASTING Liquid ballasting is used to increase machine stability. It is recommended to use professional tyre outlets to carry out the filling procedure. Special equipment and water permeable valves are required. In liquid and salt ballasting, use tubes to prevent rims from rusting. Note! If a filler other than liquid is used (i.e. polyurethane), tyre warranty does not apply. Water ballasting 75 % of tyre volume is filled. Amounts listed in the table below. Water and salt ballasting The addition of salt will prevent freezing. 75% of tyre volume is filled with the proportions given in the table below. The salt / water solution is calculated at a temperature of -30 ºC / -22 ºF. Normal commercial salt (CaCl 2 ), 77% purity, is used. Any additional salt will not necessarily dissolve in water. The remaining tyre volume is inflated to the recommended inflation pressure. Notice! Since tyre has air only 25% of the original volume, regular inflation pressure checks are highly recommended. It is recommended to use professional tyre outlets to carry out the filling procedure. Special equipment and water permeable valves are required. In liquid and salt ballasting, use tubes to prevent rims from rusting. Note! If a filler other than liquid is used (i.e. polyurethane), tyre warranty does not apply. Water ballasting 75 % of tyre volume is filled. Amounts listed in the table below. Water and salt ballasting The addition of salt will prevent freezing. 75% of tyre volume is filled with the proportions given in the table below. The salt / water solution is calculated at a temperature of -30 ºC / -22 ºF. Normal commercial salt (CaCl 2 ), 77% purity, is used. Any additional salt will not necessarily dissolve in water. The remaining tyre volume is inflated to the recommended inflation pressure. Notice! Since tyre has air only 25% of the original volume, regular inflation pressure checks are highly recommended. It is recommended to use professional tyre outlets to carry out the filling procedure. Special equipment and water permeable valves are required. In liquid and salt ballasting, use tubes to prevent rims from rusting. Note! If a filler other than liquid is used (i.e. polyurethane), tyre warranty does not apply. Water ballasting 75 % of tyre volume is filled. Amounts listed in the table below. Water and salt ballasting The addition of salt will prevent freezing. 75% of tyre volume is filled with the proportions given in the table below. The salt / water solution is calculated at a temperature of -30 ºC / -22 ºF. Normal commercial salt (CaCl 2 ), 77% purity, is used. Any additional salt will not necessarily dissolve in water. The remaining tyre volume is inflated to the recommended inflation pressure. Notice! Since tyre has air only 25% of the original volume, regular inflation pressure checks are highly recommended.
