87 Volumes of several brain structures were well below average. Volumetric measurements were first normalized for total brain volume, in order to account for head size variations and to obtain more accurate estimates of focal abnormalities. A z-score of -2.5 (as the one in several brain regions) would be found in less than 0.25% of the normal population. From Christos Davatzikos, Ph.D. Professor of Radiology, Univ of Penn.
