1 United Way of the Bay Area Public Report for Federated Campaigns United Way of the Bay Area (UWBA) achieves impact by making grants to nonprofits, developing and managing programs, bringing together stakeholders to solve problems and advocating for the low-income families we serve. We focus this activity on income, education and health to build resilient individuals and communities. In support of that effort, UWBA provides opportunity for local nonprofits to be listed as a UWBA Certified Member agency in donor materials, participate in speaker and tours engagements and volunteer recruitment opportunities United Way Campaign Membership Local nonprofit health and service agencies that meet established United Way of the Bay Area qualifications and are aligned with UWBA areas of focus have the opportunity to register with UWBA to be listed as eligible for donor-directed contributions in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), California State Charitable Campaign (CSECC), and other local municipality and county government employee fund drives within the seven Bay Area Counties served by United Way of the Bay Area. No fees are imposed for this membership listing other than a $75 application/processing fee. Applications for membership status must be submitted annually. Sources of Contributions Campaign totals for Fiscal Year are comprised of cash, gifts of securities, and unconditional promises to give to UWBA during annual fundraising campaigns from individuals, employees and corporate donors. Total campaign pledges $ 30,965,054 Donor Designations $ 21,894,270 Cost of Fundraising $ 2,703,085 Management and General Overhead $ 3,686,826 Cost Recovery UWBA assesses a fee to agencies receiving funds through donor designations. These fees represent the expense of UWBA s efforts related to fundraising and processing the designations. The basis for the Fiscal Year fee was 15% of the gross amount received, and was capped at $350 per donor gift. In some cases, the administrative fee was covered by a generous donation from the donor or the donor s employer. 1
