Together we use our voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to poverty. Volunteers receive training, support, and inspiration to become skilled advocates. In time, volunteers learn to effectively advise policy makers, guiding them towards decisions that improve access to education, health, and economic opportunity. With every hour of their time, volunteers multiply their impact through the enormous power of advocacy whether it s helping change policy to support millions of families putting food on the table or helping raise billions of dollars for the world s most vulnerable children. Backed by the in-depth research and legislative expertise of staff, RESULTS advocates realize the incredible power they possess to use their voices to change the world. 9. Select categories for your organization: Advocacy & Human Rights, Hunger, Justice & Legal, Politics, Community

Post an Opportunity Step 1: Plan your event. Think about a fun and interesting event to invite people to. This could be a letter writing meeting, a community outreach event about RESULTS and our current poverty fighting campaign, or even a monthly RESULTS meeting. Volunteers are looking for their opportunity to make a difference in their community and the world so create an action oriented event that will address these needs. Step 2: Name your event. Create a catchy and unique title that speaks to the passion, skills, and opportunities attendees will have. Examples: Be a Powerful Voice for the End of Poverty Take Action, Fight Poverty with RE- SULTS in Miami Passionate Voices Needed to Fight Poverty Activists Needed in Wyoming: Join the Fight Against Poverty Step 3: Include a date, time, and location for volunteers. You can either create a specific event to invite people to or create an on-going opportunity for people to join anytime. For a specific event, include the location. For an ongoing event, you can put City Wide Opportunity for the location. Step 4: Inspire people to get involved. Add an opportunity description. Inspire volunteers about the difference they can make and give them a concrete idea of how to make that difference with RESULTS in your community. Joint Global and US Example: Tampa Bay RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. Together, we use our voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to poverty here in the United States and across the world. For the first time in history, we have the resources that are necessary to end poverty and make sure all kids can grow up healthy and strong, go to school, and reach their full potential. Yet 1 in 5 kids here in the United States are at risk of going hungry every night. Globally, 17,000 children under 5 will die every day from preventable causes. We have the ability to turn this around and make sure all kids can reach their full potential. Tampa Bay RESULTS is fighting to put those solutions in place. As citizen advocates, we meet with members of Congress, engage with the media, and communicate about global and local poverty in Tampa Bay. Through our advocacy we help build the foundations for independence by promoting access to education, health, and economic opportunity so that all kids have a chance to survive and thrive.

Don t know how to advocate? We ll train you. With 35 years of experience, a national support system, and over 100 RESULTS advocacy chapters taking action across the country, you can be part of a powerful movement for the end of poverty from Tampa Bay. Contact [[Your Name, , and phone number]] to get involved. Global Example: RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. Together, we use our voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to global poverty. The past 25 years have seen tremendous improvements in global poverty. Preventable child deaths have been cut in half and millions of kids are in school for the first time. There is still work to do. This year, 6.3 million kids will die from preventable causes before they reach their fifth birthday and 58 million children will miss out on their chance to go to school. Check out our Everyday Heroes in action here: For the first time in history, we have the resources that are necessary to end poverty and make sure all kids can grow up healthy and strong, go to school, and reach their full potential. The latest evidence shows that we can end preventable maternal and child deaths within our generation. Our vision for a better world is not only possible, but it s probable and achievable. You can see more on our vision here. As a RESULTS volunteer, you can help us reach this vision through powerful and passionate advocacy. RESULTS volunteers receive training, support, and inspiration to become skilled advocates. In time, volunteers learn to effectively advise policy makers, guiding them towards decisions that will improve access to education, health, and economic opportunity. Volunteers help build a powerful movement for the end of poverty by meeting face to face with members of Congress, engaging with the media, and communicating about global poverty and hunger issues in their community. We invite you to be part of this movement by becoming a powerful voice in your community Contact [[Your Name, , and phone number]] to get involved. US Example: We are looking to start a volunteer RESULTS chapter in your local area. Group would meet once a month, listen in on monthly national conference call, and strategize how to bring real change to federal policies in order to create economic mobility. RESULTS offers hope and the possibility for ordinary citizens to make a difference. Volunteers can be a voice for change and challenge the unjust systems that create poverty Our activists were instrumental in expanding health care, Head Start, and child care funding, as well as fighting off extensive and irresponsible cuts to anti-poverty programs like SNAP and critical tax credits.

Never advocated for something before? That s ok We ll teach you how to be a powerful advocate and help you develop an understanding of the issues. Our activists and grassroots chapters meet with their members of Congress, educate their communities, and generate media coverage. This is an opportunity to create real change, and to be on the front lines of the poverty fight. The skills you will learn as a volunteer will not only help you become a powerful agent for change, but will also help you in your daily life to become a better speaker, writer, and informed citizen. There is no cost to you, just a commitment of 3-5 hours a month, continuous training and support from RESULTS staff. Together, we can build ladders out of poverty and create a society where opportunity is not a privilege for those with the means, but a right for all to thrive. Contact [[Your Name, , and phone number]] to get involved. Step 5: List specific skills and time commitments. Volunteer Match and LinkedIn work together to post volunteer opportunities to the LinkedIn network. If you add specific skills, your Volunteer Match posting will be sent to hundreds of additional community members on LinkedIn who possess the skills that RESULTS groups need. You can include: critical thinking, people skills, community outreach, relationship building, verbal/ written communication, advocacy and team building. Step 6: Select three interest areas and list keywords. The average RESULTS volunteer spends 3-5 hours a month volunteering. Your post will be targeted to people who are interested in volunteering in these interest areas. Make sure you select Advocacy and Human Rights. You might also consider Hunger, International, Community, Children and Youth, and Politics. Volunteers can search for opportunities using keywords. Make sure you show up in their search Include words such as social justice health advocacy human rights poverty and education Step 7: Include an image. Step 8: Publish your event for the community to see Step 9: Check your connections Use the RESULTS banner or another catchy image to add visual appeal to your opportunity. Check connections at least a couple of times a week and follow up with potential new members. You will also get notifications when someone clicks on your opportunity. Steps to take to follow up: 1. and schedule a phone call or coffee meeting to tell the potential new volunteer about your opportunity 2. Invite them to your next chapter meeting

LinkedIn LinkedIn is a network of professionals and community members who are full of skills and experience to benefit your group. Take advantage of this resource when recruiting new members and advertising your opportunity to make a difference. Using a free profile: With a free profile you can send messages and post opportunities on your own page to people you are connected with. You can also join groups based on issues that you care about and send messages to those groups. Using a paid profile: Paid profiles give you an extra advantage when looking for new members. With a paid profile, you can send InMail messages to people outside of your network. Both options allow you to do an advanced search for people in specific areas. Steps to do an Advanced Search 1. Click Advanced at the top of your LinkedIn page. List your location. Include keywords like poverty alleviation education global health 2. Under Nonprofit Interests select Skilled Volunteering 3. Click Search to see pages of profiles for local professionals wanting to make a difference in your community. 4. At the top of the results page, click Save Search to set up weekly notifications from LinkedIn to be notified of new people who fit your needs. 5. Skim profiles for people that look like they would be a great addition to your team. 6. Contact people using InMail (for a paid profile) or Request to Connect (for free profile) with a short message introducing yourself and your opportunity. Even better, if they list their personal contact information reach out to them directly through or phone. See image and sample message on next page.

Sample LinkedIn InMail Message I wanted to introduce myself. I m a RESULTS activist with the RESULTS global poverty group. We're a group of local volunteer activists that work to put an end to poverty worldwide by promoting access to health, education, and economic opportunity. I noticed on your profile that you have a lot of experience with global poverty and social justice issues and a strong interest in social action and poverty alleviation. I thought you might be interested to hear more about the opportunities we have here in to work together on these things. Our activists work together and take monthly action on global poverty by inspiring our members of Congress to make good decisions for the end of poverty. We would love to have your experienced voice on our team. Would you be interested in talking with me more about how you can make a difference in our group? I look forward to hearing from you.
