Working Hours One full-time (10 months per year), tenure-track faculty Child Development Center Director/Instructor position, beginning in August The center director/instructor will assume supervisory and administrative responsibilities for MiraCosta College's Child Development Center program and personnel, and will report directly to the Dean of Career and Technical Education. The center director/instructor will also teach courses in the child development program. To view the Child Development Center website, go to To view the Child Development Program website, go to The anticipated assignment includes a minimum of 60% as Director of the Child Development Center and 40% as teaching faculty in the Child Development Program. The standard work week is forty (40) hours, which includes director/teaching duties, curriculum development, preparation, student evaluation, departmental activities and collegial governance (i.e., institutional service). The person selected for this position may be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation. Type of Benefits Upon initial employment, full-time faculty members are placed on the salary schedule based on education and years of experience. The maximum initial placement for experience is Step 10. Faculty members are encouraged to continue their professional development through additional study, qualifying them for advancement on the salary schedule.

MiraCosta College offers a comprehensive package of benefits, which includes employer-paid medical, dental, and vision plans for employee and dependents; $100,000 employee life insurance; other optional coverages. Faculty members are also covered under the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS). Minimum Qualifications To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications: 1. A Master's degree in Child Development (CD); Early Childhood Education (ECE); Educational Psychology with a specialization in CD/ECE; Home Economics/Family and Consumer Studies with a specialization in CD/ECE; or Human Development; 2. a Bachelor's degree in any of the areas listed above AND a Master's degree in Bilingual/Bicultural Education, Educational Supervision, Elementary Education, Family and Consumer Studies, Family Life Studies, Life Management/Home Economics, Psychology, Social Work, or Special Education; 3. a valid California credential authorizing service as a child development instructor in a community college; 4. the equivalent. All degrees and units used to satisfy the minimum qualifications must be from postsecondary institutions accredited by an accreditation agency recognized by either the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. Or if your degree/coursework is from a college or university outside of the United States, you must submit a detailed evaluation from a professional foreign transcript evaluation agency. 3 Desirable Qualifications The college seeks candidates who have the following: 1. successful background in directing a campus-based child development center operating as a campus laboratory school; 2. experience teaching child development or early childhood education courses in a community college, including teaching in a laboratory school setting; 3. documented success in working with adult learners; 4. ability to design and assess curriculum related to student learning outcomes; 5. commitment to work closely with child development center staff and faculty on program issues and the integration of theory and practice; 6. demonstrated leadership and advocacy in the field of early childhood education, and active participation in local and statewide child development communities; 7. knowledge of licensing requirements and the state credentialing process; 8. ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written discourse; 9. ability to establish strong working relationships with others employing collaboration and shared decision-making; 10. demonstrated commitment to this college's objective of promoting effective support and assistance to students of diverse abilities, interests, and cultural backgrounds. Three (3) recent letters of recommendation (must be dated) or an up-to-date placement file. About MiraCosta College The MiraCosta Community College District is one of California's 112 public community colleges.
