San Antonio College Director, Research & Institutional Effectiveness Type of Position: Full-time, 40 hrs per week MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Director, Research & Institutional Effectiveness is responsible for: Planning, organizing, controlling and directing the overall operations and activities involving research, review, analysis, interpretation and reporting of a variety of data and information used in assessing institutional effectiveness, assisting with strategic and institutional planning and decision-making, and evaluating key performance indicators for college-wide quality improvement; Planning, organizing, controlling and directing accreditation activities to meet or exceed accreditation standards of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association for Schools and Colleges. Creating institutional plans for research and data analysis to provide research information to administration to support institutional decision-making processes for policy, procedures and accreditation; Coordinating and directing communications, information, data, resources and personnel to assure smooth and efficient completion of projects and activities; directing the development and implementation of research studies in support of planning, evaluation, budgeting and policy formation; and assuring proper and timely resolution of related issues, conflicts and discrepancies; Designing, developing, implementing and conducting research projects, surveys and studies in support of institutional assessment, planning, decision-making and quality improvement; establishing and maintaining related time lines and priorities; and directing and participating in the development of related instruments and outcome measures; Collaborating with others in determining educational and financial effectiveness, and operational efficiency of various College departments, programs and services; and providing technical assistance and recommendations in the planning and development of practices, policies, measures and procedures to enhance educational and financial effectiveness, and operational efficiency; Directing and participating in the research, collection, interpretation and reporting of data and statistics used in institutional assessment, planning, decision-making and quality improvement; coordinating, directing and participating in related data analysis and trend monitoring; assure accuracy, completeness and integrity of data, statistics and information; Developing and implementing strategies for evaluating key performance indications of institution-wide quality improvement; and collaborating with College administrators and

2 officials in the development, analysis, modification and enhancement of institutional measures of effectiveness; Overseeing the development and maintenance of the data warehouse in support of institutional research, planning and development; and directing computer operations involved in data input and extraction to support research projects; assure proper maintenance of related automated records and production of computerized reports; Consulting with administrators, faculty and other personnel concerning institutional planning, effectiveness and decision-making; responding to inquiries and providing detailed and technical information concerning related data, research, projects, reports, studies, systems, practices, measures, programs, policies and procedures; and assisting personnel with developing research instruments; Directing and participating in the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical records, reports and files related to research, projects, institutional assessment, planning, decision-making, quality improvement, policies, procedures, personnel and assigned activities; Supervising and evaluating the performance of assigned personnel; recruiting employees and recommending transfers, reassignments, terminations and disciplinary actions; coordinating subordinate work assignments and reviewing their work to assure compliance with established standards, requirements and procedures; and assuring employee understanding of established requirements; Developing and preparing the annual preliminary budget for institutional assessment, research and analysis; analyzing and reviewing budgetary and financial data; and controlling and authorizing expenditures in accordance with established limitations; Providing technical information and recommendations to the President and Vice President of Instruction regarding institutional assessment, research and planning activities, needs and issues; serving as Chair of the Research Group, a member of the Institutional Advancement Team and resource expert for President s Advisory Council; and preparing and delivering oral presentations concerning institutional assessment, planning, decision-making, quality improvement and related projects and findings to a variety of audiences; Communicating with personnel, administrators and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns, including serving as liaison with national, regional, state and local agencies in the areas of institutional research, planning, evaluation and assessment. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Master s degree in education, research, statistics, or related field. KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES REQUIRED The position requires 3 years of increasingly responsible experience in positions involving statistical research, review, analysis, interpretation and reporting including work with institutional assessment, research, and planning. The position requires knowledge of:
