3 The Carlson School Advantage Curriculum The MS in Business Analytics curriculum balances a depth of analytical training with a breadth of business knowledge. The rigorous and fast-paced curriculum consists of foundational business-oriented courses, custom tailored to data science and analytics. The program prepares talented professionals to harvest, process, and analyze data to extract important insights. The one-year program begins in June and consists of three intensive semesters, each semester containing 15 credits of coursework. The MSBA is a full-time graduate program with classes held during the day. Experiential Learning As part of the MS in Business Analytics program, students will participate in a Carlson School experiential learning program. Students partner with real-world client organizations to draw innovative conclusions and facilitate data-driven decision making to solve a real business problem. Experiential learning programs offer dynamic projects that allow students to apply analytics methodologies, techniques, and tools to a business problem. The project takes place during the spring semester throughout 14 weeks. Working in teams of 4-5, students leverage data to drive business decision making. These projects give students invaluable client-facing exposure to a real-world challenge in business analytics. Top Ranked The Carlson School Management Information Systems program is ranked fourth (graduate program) and third (undergraduate program) in the nation. STEM Designated The MS in Business Analytics program is recognized by the Department of Homeland Security as a STEM designated program. STEM programs allow greater flexibility for international students. Career Development The Carlson School Graduate Business Career Center (GBCC) is dedicated to providing students with personalized career planning and support, and offers extensive services and resources to help students with all aspects of their career development, from career coaching and mock interviews to internship placement and job offer negotiation strategies. 4 Led by World Class Faculty The MS in Business Analytics program is taught by world-class faculty who are leading research in business analytics, business intelligence, information systems, and datadriven decision making. Professor Gediminas Adomavicius is an expert in recommender systems and personalization technologies, data mining techniques, and complex auction mechanisms. He was awarded the National Science Foundation s CAREER Award for his work on personalization technologies. This work has been highly cited and guided the design of next-generation recommender systems. Professor Alok Gupta is an expert in economic engineering of information systems, including internet economics, online mercantile mechanisms, and webbased social networks. His research has been highly cited in academic journals, and used by Fortune 100 firms to redesign and improve their online presence. His research has won numerous awards including two INFORMS Information System Society s Design Science Awards. Professor Ravi Bapna is an expert in assessing economic value of information systems including online auctions, social networks, and cloud computing using econometric and computational modeling tools.
