3 LED Digital Clock Setup Instructions TIEL200 System LED Digital Clock Setup Safety Precautions: The LED Digital clock must be connected to a properly grounded outlet and it is designed for indoor use only. It is not weather protected. Operating the LED Digital clock outdoors, or in wet areas is an electrical hazard and may damage the LED digital clock while nullifying the warranty. Equipment Precautions: To avoid possible electric shock and damage to the LED Digital Clock, make sure that it is unplugged when working on it. Note: The jumper selectable options can be made or changed while the clock is powered; however, shorting the wrong terminals or a static discharge may cause the clock to malfunction. If this should occur, it can be corrected by momentarily disconnecting power from the unit or by pressing the reset button located just left of the 14-pin programming socket (see Figure A). Do not install jumpers in the section labeled RF Channel at this time. RESET s s 2.5 Display 4 Display Figure A System LED Digital Clock Set Preferences: Factory Settings The factory or default setting is with no jumpers. The default setting is as follows: 1. Display Time Only Hour Display 3. Without PM indicator (no dot in the lower right corner) To change these settings you must remove the access panel, which J is the small rectangular panel located in the upper center of the face of the LED Digital Clock. To aid in removal there is a small recess in the top center of this panel. The panel can be removed with a small screwdriver by prying the center top edge of the access panel forward. Note: Use caution when removing the panel to avoid having it fall into the clock. s have been supplied for the setting options (see Figure A). R Note: When power is first applied to the clock, or the reset button is pushed, a decimal point will flash for approximately 3 minutes while the clock receiver is turned on to capture the transmitter signal. If the LED Digital Clock receives no valid time data from the Transmitter for 72 hours, then the red colon on the clock will flash. 4

4 TIEL200 LED Digital Clock Setup Instructions Set Alternating Time/Date To set the display to alternate between Time and Date, place a jumper across the Time/Date pins as shown in Figure B below. RESET R 2.5 Display 4 Display Figure B Set Display to 24-Hour Time To set the display to 24-hour time, place a jumper across 12/24 HR pins as shown in Figure C below. RESET 2.5 Display 4 Display Figure C To Activate the PM indicator To set the PM dot indicator, place the jumper as shown in Figure D below. RESET 2.5 Display 4 Display R Figure D J These preferences can be made while the LED Digital Clock is "ON" and the changes will go into effect within a few seconds. However, shorting across the wrong pins or a static discharge on a pin can cause the unit to malfunction. If this occurs, unplug the LED Digital clock or press the reset button, which is located to the left of the gray socket (a pointed instrument may be necessary to reach this button). 5

5 LED Digital Clock Setup Instructions TIEL200 Offset Hours The LED Digital Clock displays the time that it receives from the Transmitter. The hour offset is for applications where the LED Digital Clock is modified to display the time for another time zone. By placing the appropriate jumpers to accumulate the desired hour offset and direction (+/-) of the offset, any hour time zone can be displayed. The HR OFFSET jumpers designate how many hours are offset from the current time zone. The clock only reads the hour offset on start up, so the clock must be power-cycled or the reset button must be pushed for the offset hours to go into effect. Installing the HR OFFSET jumper makes the offset negative, while not installing it makes the offset positive. For example, installing a jumper in the HR Offset 2 position and resetting the clock sets it two hours fast. Installing the HR Offset jumper along with the HR Offset 4 jumper sets the clock 4 hours slow. If you require extra jumpers, they are standard computer jumpers and are available in electronic stores or can be obtained from Primex Wireless. 8 120VAC DIGITAL CLOCK WIRING Primex Wireless digital clocks are shipped from the factory with a three prong grounded plug. For applications that require a pigtail/hardwired configuration you may remove the plug. Note: Please be sure to leave a minimum of 6 of cord inside the junction box. Any damage to the clock due to improper wiring voids the warranty. Black (line) White (neutral) Green (ground) LED Digital Clock Setup Instructions Wire dressing exits TIEL200 24VAC DIGITAL CLOCK WIRING Use the following tables to calculate the maximum wire length and number of clocks, given the gauge of wiring. The type of LED Clock being installed (4 digit or 6 digit) determines which table is used. Note: These charts apply to both 2.5 and 4 LED clocks. The procedure for determining maximum wire length and maximum number of clocks varies depending on if new wires are being run or if existing wiring is being used. For situations where new wire is being run, use the wire gauge (AWG) that supports the necessary number of clocks (left column) over the prescribed length of the wire run (in the column under AWG). For installations where 24 Vac wiring already exists, determine the gauge of the existing wiring using calipers or an AWG scale. Starting at the end of the wire where the power source is to be located, measure the approximate length of the wire to the end of the line. This can be accomplished by pacing off the distance to be measured or by reviewing architectural plans for the building and calculating the length. The length of the wire and the AWG of the wire determine how many clocks may be powered. The charts show the maximum number clocks that may be safely installed for a given number of feet for three wire gauges: 14 AWG, 18 AWG and 22 AWG. Note: The current draw of the dual-sided clock is twice that of the single-sided clock. When calculating the number of dual-sided clocks, each side counts as one clock. Note: Please contact Tech Support when using a wire gauge that is not specified on the above tables. Note: These are worst case figures that assume all the clocks are located at the end of the wire furthest from the power source. Note: These calculations are only valid when there are no other devices, except those specified, connected to the wiring. It is likely, by distributing the clocks evenly along the wire run, that longer cable runs and more clocks can be safely added. However, additional calculations are necessary to determine the maximum number of clocks. Before adding additional clocks, call Primex Tech Support at for help with performing these calculations. 9

9 LED Digital Clock Setup Instructions TIEL200 Connecting the 24VAC Wiring: Warning: Be sure to follow all National and Local Building Codes when installing clocks. 1. Be sure the 24VAC wiring is fed out the cable hole in the rear of the clock. 2. If a back plate is used, feed the 24V wiring harness through the back plate and attach it to the clock. 3. Hang the clock vertically on one of the mounting screws. 4. Connect the 24V wiring harness. Use two wire nuts, sized appropriately for the gauge of wire, to secure the wires. 5. Finish hanging the clock horizontally. 24VAC 4-DIGIT LED CLOCKS # of 4 digit maximum 14 AWG maximum 18 AWG maximum 22 AWG Required 24Vac* LED clocks wire length (feet) wire length (feet) wire length (feet) Transformer A A A A A A A A A A 24VAC 6-DIGIT LED CLOCKS # of 6 digit maximum 14 AWG maximum 18 AWG maximum 22 AWG Required 24 Vac* LED clocks wire length (feet) wire length (feet) wire length (feet) Transformer A A A A A A A A A A * The size of the transformer needed to supply the appropriate current depends on the number of clocks specified as shown.
