1 Selecting FM Perfumes from Fragrance Groups Catalogue August 2016 We often have problems knowing which FM perfume to suggest to a customer and with 150 perfumes in our range, anyone can end up confused. This booklet and its companions are aimed at helping with those suggestions. The fragrance wheel, devised by Michael Edwards in 1983, is used by industry professionals to advise their customers what perfumes might be suitable for them. It is a classification standard for perfumes which splits the range into families and subgroups and can be used to identify alternative fragrances that might suit the customers requirements. If the customer does not know the fragrance wheel classifications, ask them for their favourite high street perfumes and look them up in the Recently Requested list. Now look in this Selecting Perfumes list for the Customer s favourite family and subgroups. Adjacent families and subgroups can be a possible alternative. For example, if we were looking for say White Flowers we could say In that Fragrance Wheel Group, we have FM313 which is our Luxury Parfum for 50ml, (parfum is the highest perfume grade), and FM354 and 257, Parfums at for 30ml. Which would you like to try first? A choice of 3 FM perfumes is the best possible result, more than 3 and the nose gets confused, less than 3 and and the customer may not make a choice, so what can we do if this happens. Less Than 3? Select adjacent groups and make up the numbers from them. For instance if we were looking 6454 and we have no FM perfumes in that group, we go to where 6454 would be on the list and chose perfumes on either side of that point. This allows us to say something like We ve nothing with exactly that fragrance, but FM142 is slightly fresher and FM359 is slightly richer, and we also have FM24 which you might like. Which would you like to try first? More than 3? Let s assume our customer likes I Love Love, Fragrance Wheel, al. If we look in Selecting FM Perfumes we will find 18 FM perfumes to choose from. However there are 2 FM perfumes that match for both sets of perfume families, FM272 and FM293. These are the closest, so we have now reduced 18 options to 2. Just add another perfume from either side of these 2 and you have your trio of perfumes to offer your customer. Notes 1. All our perfumes are originals, created by Drom, one of the world s top perfume oil manufacturers and bottled and packaged by Parfand for the FM Group 2. The al Fragrance Groups and the FM Groups as shown in the back of the FM Perfumes catalogue, are not the same as the Fragrance Wheel family groups. Do not try to mix the groups. 3. Different perfume authorities often have different ideas about which fragrance should be in which group. The ultimate judge must be the customer, so ask them to try your samples and decide for themselves. 4. Although our fragrances are labelled Men or Women, fragrances have no gender so don t worry about offering a men s fragrance to a woman and vice versa. Let the customer decide which is right for them. 5. A point to remember is that each fragrance wheel family and group is a mini-wheel in itself, and when you get to the end of the wheel, family or group, you can loop back to the beginning and continue. 6. X numbers will not be in the next catalogue and are "while stocks last" items 7. Rank is an indication of how well a perfume sells. No 1 mean highest ranked in its class over the last 36 months, 0% means never in top ten 1
