1 The Continuum and Leadership Development Directorate The and Leadership Development Directorate supports the professional learning of school staff at every stage of their career. This Continuum provides a framework for professional learning programs and strategies to guide the development of school staff and those who support their work. The continuum begins with graduate teachers and continues to teacher leaders, school executives, school leaders and senior officers. There is also a continuum to guide the development of Administrative and Support staff.

2 The Continuum This continuum is the framework for planning, delivering and evaluating professional learning for school-based staff and staff who directly support the work of schools. The continuum is structured in the following way. It is mapped to four Capability Frameworks to ensure quality. The Capability Framework is identified in the purple boxes at the top of the continuum. Stages of Development or Roles are shown in the blue boxes and have been matched to the Capability Frameworks. The continuum is not necessarily linear, as career paths develop differently from one person to another. Under the Stages of Development, the green boxes show the Key Strategies that can be used to support professional learning. A range of s appears in blue boxes under the Key Strategies. The s are matched to the Stages of Development or Roles. s under development are shown with an asterisk. All programs are based on research, subject to rigorous evaluation and are focused on managing change. They are designed to create effective learning opportunities that: have a high degree of personal relevance are informed by Capabilities Frameworks have flexible, self-managed pathways use evidence-based problem solving offer a significant degree of challenge are based on workplace practice and analysis provide pertinent feedback. TEACHER LEARNING Making a difference in your classroom The first page of the continuum focuses on, beginning with professional learning for graduate teachers through induction programs to teacher leader programs. The continuum identifies professional learning opportunities for teachers that emphasise making a difference in your classroom. LEADERSHIP LEARNING Making a difference in the classroom next door The second page of the continuum focuses on Leaders. This includes induction programs for newly appointed school executives and ongoing professional learning. The Preparation targets executives and teachers who demonstrate a high level of leadership in their current positions and who aspire to the position of principal. Making a difference in your school On appointment to the s position the leadership focus is on making a difference in your school. This includes the Designate in preparation for school leadership following appointment. An induction course for newly appointed principals supports them through the first 18 months of the role. Experienced principals are supported by a suite of programs designed to increase leadership capability and develop a deeper understanding of the many facets of school leadership. Making a difference in the school next door The third page of the continuum focuses on making a difference in the school next door. and support programs are provided for school education directors and officers appointed to senior consultancy positions as part of their ongoing professional learning. SASS STAFF LEARNING Quality support for your school The fourth page of the continuum focuses on quality support for your school. It identifies the professional learning available for Administrative and Support staff. Accreditation The programs listed on the continuum are accredited by the and Leadership Development Directorate. The and Leadership Development Directorate is committed to supporting all school staff to make a difference in the hearts and minds of students in our public schools.
