Modifying News Items on the NCA Homepage Table of Contents Introduction Preparing News Story Thumbnail Images Adding a New News Story Archiving Old News Stories Reordering News Stories Publishing Changes Introduction The National Center on Accessibility homepage includes a listing of important news stories. The newsfeed shows the top three (manually ordered) news stories, along with a link to News Landing Page, which shows all active news pages. On the homepage and the News Landing Page, you can associate each news story with a thumbnail image:

Preparing News Story Thumbnail Images 1. Prepare your thumbnail images using the dimesions of 155px wide 118px tall. Save your images using the JPG file format. 2. Upload your images to the following WCMS Path: Base Folder» WRAP_SDDU» BL-RPAD-NCA» NCA» img» photos» home» news 3. To publish your new slide images, first select the image and then click its Publish tab: 4. On the Publish panel, click the Submit button:
Adding a New News Story 1. To add a new news story, first select an existing news story in the following folder: Base Folder» WRAP_SDDU» BL-RPAD-NCA» NCA» news: 2. Next click the selected slide's Copy tab:
3. On the Copy tab, in the field labeled System Name, enter a name for your file. For system names, we recommend that you use lowercase letters and numbers (if needed), with dashes replacing spaces, when necessary. Click the Submit button when you finish adding the System Name:
4. Once you see the confirmation panel with the green bar across the top labeled Copy successful, click the Edit tab on your newly copied slide:
5. On the Edit panel, in the section labeled Text, select the Date for the news story by clicking the date picker button ( ):
6. In the next field, labeled Headline, enter a title for your news story:
7. Enter a brief summary or lead paragraph of the news story in the WYSIWYG editor labeled Excerpt. The excerpt text will appear on the site's homepage (if the news story is a top news story) and also on the News Landing Page:
8. Next, you should see the WYSIWYG editor. In it, enter the text of the news story. You may also add inline images you want to Content appear in the body of the news story:
9. Below both editors, you will see a section labeled Image. The thumbnail optional is recommended, but optional. If the news story has no thumbnail image associated with it, click the Cancel icon ( ) labeled File (155 x 118) and then skip the next two steps. 10. If the news story does indeed have an associated thumbnail, click the Browse file icon ( ) to select the new thumbnail image associated with the news story:
11. You should now see a dialogue window labeled Please chose a File. In the dialogue, select the thumbnail image you uploaded and published earlier and then click the Confirm button to attach the image:
12. Back in the Edit panel, add Alternative Text for the thumbnail image:
13. Click the Submit button to finish updating your new news story:
14. After adding a new news story, archiving news stories, re-ordering news stories, or making any other edits, be sure to republish all necessary WCMS assets. See the Publishing Changes section below for more information. Archiving Old News Stories 1. If you wish to remove a news story (for example, an old news story) from the homepage (if necessary) and the News Landing Page, first select the story that you want to archive and click its Move» Rename tab. Then, on the story's Move» Rename tab click the folder icon labeled Parent Folder:
2. In the dialogue window labeled Please choose a Folder, select the following folder in the dialgoue's folder tree: Base Folder» WRAP_SDDU» BL-RPAD-NCA» NCA» news» _archive 3. After selecting the _archive folder, click the Confirm button:
4. Back on the Move» Rename tab, click the Submit button:
5. After adding a new news story, archiving news stories, re-ordering news stories, or making any other edits, be sure to republish all necessary WCMS assets. See the Publishing Changes section below for more information. Reordering News Stories Top Stories // The site's homepage will list only the top three stories, as ordered using the steps below. Simply adding a new news will not add the news story's excerpt to the homepage. You must re-order the story using the steps below so that it appears among the top three stories (one of the three lowest ascending numbers among news story files)! // 1. To change the sequence in which news stories appear both on the site's homepage (top stories only) and on the News Landing Page, begin by selecting the following folder: Base Folder» WRAP_SDDU» BL-RPAD-NCA» NCA» news 2. In the folder's file listing, click the column label Order so that the ordinal numbers appear in ascending order. 3. In the folder's file listing, the order numbers for the _archive folder and the index asset (the News Landing Page) are inconsequential. You will need to move the story you wish to re-order. Double-check that the Order column is active (it should have a downward pointing arrow before the word "Order"). If the column is not active, see the previous step. Put your mouse's cursor somewhere in the row containing the story you want to re-order. Move your mouse left or right in that row until
you see a double-headed arrow appear. When you see the double-headed arrow, click and hold your mouse button and drag the selected story to the order placement you desire (your double-headed mouse cursor will turn into a 4-headed crosshair when moving the file). Release your mouse button when you place the current issue in its proper place: 4. After adding a new news story, archiving news stories, re-ordering news stories, or making any other edits, be sure to republish all necessary WCMS assets. See the Publishing Changes section below for more information. Publishing Changes After making any changes to the news folder (adding a story, archiving stories, re-ordering stories, etc.), you will need to republish the story itself and the News Landing Page. If the news story you changed is one of the top three news stories or if you modified the order of news stories, you will also need to republish the site's homepage To publish a new news story, select the story's file in the news folder: Base Folder» WRAP_SDDU» BL-RPAD-NCA» NCA» news» [news file's name] Click the file's Publish tab, and then click the Submit button:
3. Next, you will need to publish the News Landing Page. Select the News Landing Page using the following path: Base Folder» WRAP_SDDU» BL-RPAD-NCA» NCA» news» index 4. Click the file's Publish tab, and then click the Submit button:
5. If the news story you added is one of the top three news stories OR if you have made any changes to the order of the news stories, you will also need to re-publish the site's homepage. To do so, first select the homepage: Base Folder» WRAP_SDDU» BL-RPAD-NCA» NCA» index 6. Click the file's Publish tab, and then click the Submit button:
