Read instructions completely before use of the metal halide illulminator Caution: Remove the Foam protecting the colour wheel before powering up the Metal Halide Illuminator Ensure the illuminator is disconnected from the main power before servicing Do not attempt to open non-serviceable parts inside the illuminator The installation must be performed by qualified professional in accordance with related local codes The illuminator should be located in an accessible dry and well ventilated environment Do not modify or alter the illuminator Always ground the electric circuit When suspending the illuminator above ground level and placing it on the floor, fasten securely and verify the structure can hold at least 10 times the weight of all installed devices Never install the illuminator near a heat source The metal halide illuminator has been thoroughly tested and shipped in perfect operating condition. Check the shipping carton carefully for damage that may have occurred during shipping. If the carton appears to be damaged, carefully inspect your illuminator for damage and be sure all accessories necessary to operate the illuminator have arrived intact. In case damage has been found or parts are missing, please contact us for further instructions. 2 Metal Halide Illuminator To achieve optimum performance from any High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting system, there are several maintenance issues to consider. Starting Up Metal halide lamps have a warm up time of 2-5 minutes before reaching full brightness.it is normal for the lamp to flicker when hot re-striking. Servicing a Luminaire Ensure that the illuminator is turned off and has cooled down. Whenever a luminaire is installed, serviced for any purpose, or left unlighted it's important for reasons of safety and full service life that electrical power be disconnected. Removing the lamp without disconnecting the electrical power leaves the system components under electrical stress and exposes service personnel to electrical shock. Handling the Lamp Never touch the lamp with bare fingers. Wipe with window cleaner to remove finger prints or the lamp will prematurely fail and potentially explode. Mechanical shock or vibration during handling or at time of installation can adversely affect HID lamp life. For best results, install the HID lamp in the metal halide illuminator after it is mounted in place. The illuminator must be mounted such that the filament inside the light bulb should always be horizontal to the ground. The unit should be tightened with M8 40 mm screws. Cycling HID lamps must be powered down at for at least 15 minutes every week; this is critical to ensure proper longevity. If the lamp is powered when it reaches the end of its life, it may shatter the glass and damage the illuminator. If it fails at the end of its life, it will simply not re-strike. It is recommended that illuminators be powered down when not needed to enhance the life of the lamp and reduce the energy consumed during its operation. Fitting The main connection port comes with different fittings. Select the appropriate size of fitting in accordance with the optical fiber diameter and screw into the connection port. Solid Core Optical Fiber Installation To achieve the maximum performance and long service life BL optical fiber is capable of, please observe the following installation guidelines. The 180 watt metal halide illuminator can illuminate optical fiber up to 175 ft when both ends of the fiber are illuminated (looped back to the illuminator). Single-ended installations are typically limited to feet. The surrounding environment will have a dramatic affect on the apparent brightness of illuminated fiber. Expectations of performance must be accurately gauged to achieve a satisfactory result. Certain colours of the spectrum appear brighter to the human eye than others. For instance, yellow will appear much brighter than red. When installing fiber, care should be taken to not scratch or mar the surface. When the fiber leaves the illuminator, it should come out in a straight line for a few feet. Do not bend it immediately. The focus of the illuminator is critical. The illuminator should be focused on the ends of the fiber in a manner that presents uniform illumination to the fiber ends. The fiber must be installed into the illuminator on axis to the centerline of the light source. Fiber installed at an angle will not transmit as much light as fiber that is properly aligned. Use electrical tape to bundle fiber strands together. Align the taped fiber bundle to the centre line of port and tighten in the screws to hold the fibers in place. The fiber ends should be flush with the edge of the fitting. DO NOT bend the fiber at tight angles. The minimum recommended bend radius is 8x the fiber diameter. The fiber may be bent into tighter radii, but a hotspot will develop at the point of bending, and shorten the length through which the fiber will illuminate

3 Precautions and Considerations Warning: DO NOT install the fiber without protecting it from ultraviolet light (UV). UV rays will degrade the fiber and seriously affect performance. Fiber ends exposed to UV must also be protected. Protection is required inside when the fiber will be subject to UV from skylights, windows or interior lighting that emits UV (for instance, bright fluorescent lighting). Always use a UV blocking cover (tubing or tracking type) when the fiber is exposed to UV. Use polyolefin corner guides or UV shrink tape to protect the optical fiber when taking bends. Blackout tapes may also be used to shield from UV. When installing optical fiber in UV protective tubing or tracking, allow space for expansion and contraction on the corners. Loss of performance and possible damage may result from stresses applied during the natural lengthening and shortening of the fiber as it is heated and cooled. It is recommended to bring the fiber up to room temperature when installing. ALWAYS cut the end of the fiber using a very sharp blade. The ends of the fiber must be cut perpendicular to the long axis of the fiber for maximum performance. A clean, clear cut is critical, as a cut with occlusions will result in light loss. DO NOT submerge the ends of the fiber to water or any other liquid. The ends of the fiber should not come into contact with any liquid as the liquid can migrate between the cladding and the fiber, thereby causing damage over time. Controlling the Metal Halide Illuminator DMX Connection DMX is a universal protocol used by most audio, lighting and controller manufactures as a form of communication between illuminators and controllers. A DMX controller sends out DMX data instructions to the illuminators via cables and the data travels through the DMX chain as a serial data. The 180W-DMX metal halide illuminator uses 3-pin XLR cable as connection media. To ensure proper DMX data transmission, when using several DMX illuminators try to use the shortest cable path possible. The total DMX cabling should not exceed 300ft restriction will by project. Connect the provided DMX XLR cable to the female 3-pin XLR output of your controller and the other side to the male 3-pin XLR input of the illuminator (please refer to the figure below). You must chain multiple illumiantors together through serial linking. Multiple illuminators can be linked together and controlled with a master controller or in master/slave mode. Refer to the figure below for the connection diagram. Connection with a master controller Connection in master/slave mode DMX addressing Illuminators to operate as slaves should be set in DMX address display mode. Different DMX addressing scheme will have the multiple res illuminate in different fashion. The illuminators with the same address will operate simultaneously. The allocation of this starting DMX address is achieved by operating the Menu

4 Control Modes There are 3 Control Modes to set the metal halide illuminator: Main Mode, Remote Control Mode, and Slave mode. The Modes are accessed by click the two buttons on the front of the unit together. Modes LED Display Main Mode Pxx Remote Mode Axx Slave Mode 3 digit DMX Address -xx indicates the Program Number The two buttons at the front panel scrolls up for down the Program Number or the DMX Address. Remote Mode The remote control can only operate in Remote Mode. The remote control operates on frequency and has a range of approximately 100ft distance may vary with projects. The remote control has six buttons (#1 to 6). Their function is described in the table below. Slave Mode There are two DMX channels to operate the metal halide illuminator when a DMX controller is the Master controller and the illuminator is in Slave mode. The first channel controls the Programs and the second channel controls the fade between Programs. 6 Maintenance and Cleaning It is still necessary to maintain the illuminator regularly so that it performs at its best status, although the reliability of the unit has been enhanced even during the designing period, and strictly inspected and checked of the manufacturing and shipment term to extend its longevity lifespan. CAUTION: Make sure that the power cord of the unit is disconnected from the mains before performing the following operation to avoid shock hazard! A. Cleaning of fan and vents A good cooling and ventilation system can make sure your illuminator works properly; therefore cleaning of them regularly is a must. Prevent the performance of illuminator falling from over-heating due to dust blocking the vents. B. Cleaning and maintenance of lens C. Normal inspection 1. Be sure all screws and fasteners are securely tightened at all times. Lose screws may cause unexpected damage or injury. 2. Electric power supply cables must not show any damage or frayed spot. D. Replace the lamp In case the existing HQI-R 150W/NDL bulb exceeds its service life or simply not working, you need to replace the Lamp. Warning: Do not attempt to replace the non-functional bulb with other bulb because it is specifically designed for R- 150 DMX M/S/D-B. When performing a replacement, please be sure the device is completely cooled down. Disconnect the metal halide light engine unit completely from the electrical outlet and wait for at least 5 minutes for cooling. Remove the screws on the back panel of the illuminators to reveal the lamp holder. Unplug the lamp wire place your finger under the reflector and lift up the bulb GENTLY. Place a new bulb under the springs, and then orient the bulb so that the filament inside is in horizontal position. Place your finger under the reflector and then lift up the bulb GENTLY. Place the new bulb under the springs. GENTLY insert the bulb between the springs. Connect the bulb plug to the socket. After the bulb and the bulb wire are secured, reassemble the cover
