Please read and follow these instructions carefully and keep this manual in a safe place for futu re reference. The Orland Follow is an innovative projector with an elegant housing made from high quality aluminiun -alloy and steel with an epoxy paint finish. The Orland Follow complies to CE norms and standards and uses international protocol DMX-512. T he Orland Follow uses HMI 1200W lamp and high quality optical systems which produce bright and beautiful light beam, and it can continuously adjust the brightness from 0% to 100% via the mechanical device. The Orland Follow features effects of strobe, soft light beam, mixing colours and rainbow, and the projector may be used in stand-alone mode or synchro mode, so it is suitable for use in TV station, disc, singing and dancing stage, night club and so on. The Orland Follow is controlled by dedicated manual controller, and the operation is easy and convenient. The unit is installed on the 3-foot bracket, and the angle and the height of the body are easy to be adjusted. The projector has protection devices of auto thermal cut-off and lamp power cut-off in case you directly open the cover for lamp replacement before switching off the general switch. 2 /8 Orland Follow manual.doc
3 SAFE USAGE OF THE PROJECTOR When unpacking and before disposing of the package check there is no transportation damage before using the projector. Should there be any damage caused by transportation, consult your dealer and do not use the apparatus. Keep the package well for your possible future transportation. The projector is for indoor use only, IP 20. Use only in dry locations. Keep this device away from rain and moisture, excessive heat, humidity and dust. Do not allow to contact with water or any other fluids, or metallic objects. The projector is not designed or intended to be mounted directly on to inflammable surfaces. The projector is only intended for installation, operation and maintenance by qualified personnel. The projector must be installed in a location with adequate ventilation, at least 50cm from adjacent surfaces. Be sure that all the cooling fans run normally and no ventilation slots are blocked. Do not project the beam onto inflammable surfaces, minimum distance is 3m. 3 m Avoid direct exposure to the light from the lamp. The light is harmful to the eye. Do not attempt to dismantle and / or modify the projector in any way. Electrical connection must only be carried out by qualified personnel. Before installation, ensure that the voltage and frequency of power supply match the power requirements of the projector. Only use the lamp with the specified type and rating. It is essential that each projector is correctly earthed and that electrical installation conforms to all relevant standards. Do not connect this device to any dimmer pack. Make sure that the power-cord is never crimped or damaged by sharp edges. Never let the power-cord come into contact with other cables. Only handle the power-cord by the plug. Never pull out the plug by tugging the power-cord. Keep the lamp clean. Do not touch the lamp glass with bare hand. The lamp used in this projector is an high power discharge lamp. After being switched off don t attempt to restart the projector until lamp has cooled, this will require approx 15 minutes. Switching the lamp on and off at short intervals will reduce the life of both the lamp and the projector. Occasional breaks will prolong the life of both the lamp and the projector. Never run the projector without a lamp. There are no user serviceable parts inside the projector, do not open the housing and never operate the projector with the covers removed. Always disconnect from the mains, when the device is not in use or before cleaning it or before attempting any maintenance work. 4 OPERATION Oralnd F ollow has 4 channels and uses international protocol DMX 512. You can finish all operations via dedicated controller without using other controllers. When the power is switched on, the projector automatically starts to run the programmes of self test. After finishing these, the apparatus is ready for operation. HOW TO OPERATE THE DEDICATED CONTROLLER A (STOP button): Pressing this button and holding it, the light beam will become stronger and stronger. After releasing it, the light beam resumes its initi al condition. There are 2 STOP button on the both sides of the controller for your convenient operation. B (IRIS button): Pressing this button and holding it, the light beam will become bigger and bigger. After releasing it, the light beam resumes its initial size. There are 2 IRIS button on the both sides of the controller for your convenient operation. C (COLOUR buttons): There are 8 colour bottons of white, red, yellow, violet, green, orange, blue and pink. You can select the light beam colours by pressing the relative colour buttons, D (COLOUR TEMPERATURE switch): By adjusting this switch you can obtain 3 kinds of colour temperature: Normal 5600K, High 6000K and Low 3200K. E (FIXED COLOURS & RAINBOW switch): Adjusting the switch on the RAINBOW position, enable the rainbow function. Adjusting the switch on the FIXED COLOURS position, enable the fixed colours function and disable the rainbow function. F (COLOUR slide): When the E (FIXED COLOURS & RAINBOW) switch is on the RAINBOW position, adjusting the slide from SLOW to FAST position, the colours will change from slow to fast till rainbow effect. G (IRIS slide): Adjusting the slide from CLOSED to OPEN position, the light beam size will become bigger and bigger till the iris opened fully. H (SPOP slide): When the I switch is on the STROBE position, adjusting the slide from SLOW to FAST position, the strobe speed will become from slow to fast. When the I switch is on the DIMMER position, adjusting the slide from SLOW to FAST position, the light beam brightness will change from 0 % to 100%. I (STROBE & DIMMER switch): Adjusting the switch on the STROBE position, enable the H slide for strobe operation. 5 FITTING THE LAMP Remove the cover by loosening a M4 knurled screw. Insert the lamp in the lamp-holder, and ensure the little bubble on the lamp is at a right angle (90 ) to the beam path. Keep the lamp clean during installation. Reinstall the cover and tighten the M4 knurled screw. Note: The HMI series are high pressure lamps with external igniters ( ). Care should always be taken when handling these lamps. Always read the manufacturers "Instructions for use" enclosed with the lamp. CONTROL CONNECTIONS MASTER/SLAVE SYNCHRO MODE Connection between one projector and another must be made with 2 core screened cable, with each core having at least a 0.5mm diameter. Connection to and from the projector is via cannon 5 pins XLR plugs and sockets which are included with the projector. The XLR's are connected as shown in the table below. Note, care should be taken to ensure that none of the pins touch the body of the plug or each other. The body of the plug is not connected in any way. The Orland Follow accepts digital control signals in standard DMX512 (1990) format. 5 /8 Orland Follow manual.doc
6 MASTER / SLAVE SYNCHRO CONNECTIONS Connect the controller s feamal plug to the first luminaire s input, and connect the first luminaire s output to the second luminaire s input via signal cable. Do not connect the second controller s cable with the second projector. The rest may be deduced by analogy are illustrated below. Now, you only use the master s controller to control the all projectors, and all the projectors linked will work synchronously. DMX 512 CONTROL CHANNELS The Orland Follow has 4 channels. They are listed in the table as follows. CHANNELS 1 Iris 2 Colour 3 Colour Temperature 4 Strobe / Dimmer FUNCTIONS MAINTENANCE If the lamp becomes damaged or deformed in any way it must be replaced. If the light from the lamp appears dim which ormally indicates that it is reaching the end of its life and it should be changed at once, old lamps run to the extremity of their life can explode. If the projector does not function, check the power fuse, it should only be replaced of fuse with the same specified value 20A/250V (fast blow, 6mmx30mm). Should these be damaged call a qualified technician before replacement. The projector has thermal protection device that will switch off the projector in case o f overheating, should this operate, check that the fans are not blocked, and if they are dirty clean them before switching on the projector again. Check that the fans are operational, if not call a qualified technician. Any maintenance work should only be carried out by a qualified technician. 6 /8 Orland Follow manual.doc
7 KEEPING THE PROJECTOR CLEAN To ensure the reliability of the projector it should be kept clean. It is recommended that the fans should be cleaned every 15 days. The dichroic colour filters should also be regularly cleaned to maintain an optimum light output. Do NOT use any type of solvent on dichroic colour filters. Cleaning frequency depends on the environment in which the fixture operates: damp, smoke or particularly dirty surroundings can cause greater accumulation of dirt on the unit s optics. A soft cloth and typical glass cleaning products should be used in cleaning. Do not use any organic solvent, e.g. alcohol, to clean the housing of the projector.
