I have downloaded the Windows Server 2003 Standard file to my desktop. What do I do next? 1. Create a virtual PC for installation of windows 2003 server as instructed in the WINDOWS 2003 SERVER INSTALL NOTES pdf document on the class website. PLEASE SCROLL TO NEXT PAGE

14 4. Select your server, then on the server menu click on refresh [Go to DNS Configuration for Windows 2003 Server] I cannot ping my IP address. What could be wrong? 1. Ensure that you have installed the DNS server correctly by selecting Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components -> Networking Services -> Details
15 2. Ensure that your TCP/IP settings are correctly configured by selecting Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection -> Properties -> Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) -> Properties 3. Ensure that you have used your server name (eorigbo in this example ) and not web1 in configuring your forward lookup zone [Go to DNS Configuration for Windows 2003 Server]
16 DNS Configuration for Red Hat Linux I cannot ping my IP addresses correctly. What could be wrong? When I try to ping my domain name, I get a message saying unknown host. What could be wrong? Ensure that you have your host configuration settings done correctly (hostname should be the name of your server. 18 4. Ensure that you have your DNS configuration settings done correctly by selecting Red Hat -> System Settings -> Network and then click on the DNS Tab 5. Try pinging again [Go to DNS Configuration for Red Hat Linux]
19 When I try to ping my domain name, I get a message saying unknown host. What could be wrong? 1. Ensure that you have the forward lookup zone files typed correctly. The lines of text for your server name (eorigbo in this example), www, research and intranet must start on the first column of t he line 2. Ensure that you have the reverse lookup zone also typed correctly with the lines of text for 100, 150 and 200 starting at the first column of the line
20 3. Ensure that you have the named.conf file modified correctly to reflect the forward and reverse lookup zones 4. Ensure that you have the resolv.conf file modified correctly to reflect the nameserver and domain 5. Restart DNS server after making any modification. If pinging still doesn t work, restart Red Hat Linux by clicking on Red hat -> Run Command and then type Reboot in the command textbox and click on Run 6. After doing step (5), try pinging the server again. [Go to DNS Configuration for Red Hat Linux]
