4 2 Product Overview Description The TPS150 Twisted Pair AV Switching and Transmission System consists of the TPT150 AV Switcher/Twisted Pair Transmitter and the TPR150 Twisted Pair Video Receiver. The TPT150 and TPR150 combine together to form a switching and transmission system that sends video, high resolution computer video, and RS-232 control signals to a projector, plasma display, presentation monitor or other data display over a single CAT5 UTP cable. The TPS150 features an exclusive cable compensation and skew control technology (patent pending) unique to Inline. It also provides superb image quality with cable runs up to 500 feet/152 meters using standard CAT5 cables. Specialized media grade (low skew / skew free) cables are not required. 5 3 Audio-Follow-Video Switching - Each input accepts an unbalanced line level audio signal. The output signal can be wired for balanced or unbalanced audio. Note: The audio signal does not transmit to the TPR150. Volume Control and Mute - Individual volume levels can be set and stored for each input. RS-232 Serial Port - The TPS150 can be controlled from a third party control system or can be set to pass serial commands directly to the display device. Storing and Transmitting Commands - The TPT150 can store and transmit serial commands over the CAT5 link to the display device. These commands are automatically sent every time an input button or the projector power button is pressed. Contact Closure Remote Port - Select inputs, adjust volume and turn projector power on/off remotely using the optional CTP150CM control panel or any other source of contact closures TPR150 Twisted Pair Video Receiver features Works in conjunction with TPT150 AV switcher/transmitter to create a complete video/rs-232 transmission solution. Individual RGB Skew Controls - RGB skew controls adjust for the inter-pair timing delays found in long CAT5 cable runs. These controls ensure excellent performance with virtually any CAT5 cable. Note: Specialized media-grade CAT5E/CAT6 cables are not required. Cable EQ Circuitry with separate high frequency and low frequency controls. 6 4 Compatibility Video Inputs The TPT150 AV Switcher/Twisted Pair Transmitter provides four video inputs: Input 1 - One female 15-Pin HD (VGA) input with buffered local monitor output that accepts RGB/VGA computer video signals Input 2 - One female 15-Pin HD (VGA) input that accepts RGB/VGA computer video signals Inputs 3 and 4 - One female 4-Pin mini DIN input that accepts S-Video, one female RCA connector that accepts composite video, and three female RCA connectors that accept component video signals Audio Inputs The TPT150 AV Switcher/Twisted Pair Transmitter has four audio inputs. Each audio input includes two BNC connectors for audio input. All four stereo audio inputs are compatible with unbalanced line level signals from a VCR, DVD player, computer audio card, or any other audio device that delivers a stereo line level signal. Video Outputs The TPR150 Twisted Pair Video Receiver provides: One female 15-Pin HD (VGA) output that transmits RGB/VGA computer video signals One female BNC output that transmits composite video signals One female 4-Pin mini DIN output that transmits S-Video video signals Three female BNC outputs that transmit R-Y, Y, and B-Y component video signals One female RS-232 port that transmits serial commands Audio Outputs Analog Audio Signals The TPT150 AV Switcher/Twisted Pair Transmitter has one analog stereo audio output that provides a balanced or unbalanced line level output signal (see page 7 for output wiring diagram). This output can drive any line level compatible audio unit, or a local device such as powered speakers. The output level is adjustable using the volume control. 7 5 Installation Below are instructions for installing the TPS150 system. Read instructions completely before initiating the installation procedure. Note: Prior to initiating the installation procedure, ensure that the TPT150 and TPR150 are not powered up until all connections are made. 1. Place/install the TPT150 and the TPR150 at the desired locations. Both units are exactly 1U high without the feet. Seat the TPT150 unit on a flat surface or securely install it in a standard 19" equipment rack using the MTR102 rack ears (provided). If other equipment will be located in the space directly below the unit, you must remove the rubber feet on the bottom of the unit before mounting it in the equipment rack. Seat the TPR150 unit on a flat surface or securely install it to the projector mounting pole. It ships with L brackets. The bracket slots are elongated for mounting the unit to the projector mounting pole using U-bolts, which can be purchased from any hardware store. 2. Connect the CAT5 cable to the UTP output of the TPT150 to the UTP input of the TPR150. Note: Cable length must be a minimum of 50 feet and should not exceed 500 feet. 3. The TPR150 features one 15-Pin HD video output for easy connection to a display device. You can connect a display device with a 15-Pin HD input directly to the TPR Pin HD output port using a standard VGA cable. Inline s IN8000 Series flexible VGA cables offer exceptional performance and are available in a variety of lengths. 4. Connect the TPT150 analog stereo audio output (5-Pin captive screw terminal) to the audio system s line level input (mixer, amplifier, powered speakers, etc.). The output can be set for balanced or unbalanced output signal as required by wiring the output appropriately (see wiring diagram below). 8 6 6. Connect the audio sources to the audio inputs. All four inputs accept unbalanced stereo audio signals on RCA connectors. 7. If desired, connect a control system, computer, or other serial command source to the RS-232 remote connector. Cable the control system or computer serial port to the serial port based on the type of connection described on page Connect power to the transmitter, receiver, display devices, and serial and audio equipment as applicable. To connect power to the transmitter and receiver, attach the power cord to the connector on the rear of each set. A standard IEC power cord comes with each unit. Plug them into VAC, 50Hz or 60Hz power sources. TPR150 Transmitter Connections 1. Input 1 - Connect the computer graphics card to input 1 of the TPT150 using the 15-Pin connector labeled RGB / VGA. Connect a local monitor to the 15-Pin local monitor output. If applicable, connect the computer sound card to the audio input.+ 2. Input 2 - Connect the computer graphics card to input 2 of the TPT150 using the 15-Pin connector labeled RGB / VGA. If applicable, connect the computer sound card to the audio input. 3. Input 3 - Connect one of the three following signals to the TPT150: Composite Video, S-Video (Y/C) or Component Video. Connect appropriate audio signal to audio input 3. It is very important that only 1 video source be connected to this input. 4. Input 4 - Connect one of the three following signals to the TPT150: Composite Video, S-Video (Y/C) or Component Video. Connect appropriate audio signal to audio input 4. It is very important that only 1 video source be connected to this input. 5. Audio Output - Connect Audio Receiver/System to audio output of the TPT150 using the 5-Pin captive screw terminal. The audio output can be wired as a balanced or unbalanced signal. 6. RS-232 Port - Connect a control system, computer or other source of serial commands to the RS-232 port of the TPT150 using a null modem cable. 9 7 TPR150 Receiver Connections 1. RGB / VGA Video Output - Using an appropriate cable, connect the VGA / RGB output to VGA / RGB input of the display device. 2. Composite Output - Using an appropriate cable, connect the Composite Video output to the Composite Video input of the display device. 3. S-Video Output - Using an appropriate cable, connect the S-Video output to the S- Video input of the display device. 4. Component Video Output - Using an appropriate cable, connect the Component Video output to the Component Video input of the display device. 5. RS-232 Port - Using an appropriate cable, connect the RS-232 Port output to the RS-232 input of the display device. Image Optimization The TPR150 features Cable EQ controls for high and low frequency adjustments and RGB Skew control to compensate for misconvergence of colors that result from the longer CAT5 cable runs. The following procedure details the steps necessary to optimize the output image. Adjustments should be made with the highest resolution input selected. These steps may be repeated to fine tune the image after the initial adjustment. 1. Power up the TPT150 and TPR Before any adjustments are made, set the RGB skew control to minimum (fully counterclockwise position). 3. As needed, adjust the Low Frequency control on the front panel of the TPR150 to eliminate any visible image smear. 4. As needed, adjust the High Frequency control on the front panel of the TPR150 to provide a sharp image with good detail. 5. If you see a misconvergence of colors (i.e., if the red, green or blue are not properly aligned), adjust the skew control on the rear panel as needed. The skew control enables you to adjust for delay occurring in the cable. Each color has an independent adjustment. Make each adjustment carefully, as the controls are delicate INLINE, INC. 13 11 Operation This section focuses on operation of the TPS150 using front panel controls and serial commands. Input selection, blanking, volume control, and projector power on/off are available via the front panel or serial control. TPS150 Projector Control and advanced features are available via serial control only. Front Panel Controls Input Select: Selects the video and audio source. Each input is labeled, 1 through 4, and are pressed to select the desired input. A green LED above the input glows to indicate which input is currently selected. Blank: Eliminates the video transmission between the TPT150 and TPR150. The Blank button is a video blank only and will not mute the audio output. Projector Power: This button when programmed will send the appropriate on / off command to the projector. A green LED above the button will illuminate when projector power is on and will turn off when projector power is off. This button can store two separate serial commands. Note: Some projectors use the same command for power up/down. In this case, both codes are the same and the power LED blinks with each button push. Volume: Increases or decreases volume level of the selected audio output. Input and output volume adjustments are available from the front panel. Output Volume - The volume up/down buttons control the output level of the audio signal. Press and hold these buttons to initiate the volume ramping function, or press and release them to increment volume in a 1-db step. Input Volume - To adjust input volume level, press and hold the input select button and adjust the volume as described above. Mute: Silences audio for the selected output. A red LED glows to indicate status. Switching To select a different input: Press the button of the desired input. To blank the output: Press the Blank button INLINE, INC. 14 12 Audio To adjust input audio volume level Adjusting the volume allows users to equalize the audio levels of the various inputs. This is important so the volume level does not increase/decrease dramatically when switching between inputs. 1. Press and hold the Input button that corresponds to the input device for which you want to adjust the volume. 2. Press the Volume buttons to raise or lower the volume of the input device. The Mute Button silences the audio signal. When the audio is muted (no audio) the LED glows. The audio remains muted until you press the button again. To mute and/or restore audio output: Press the Mute button to alternately silence/restore audio output. Serial Port Pin-Outs The TPS150 utilizes a 9-Pin D connector. Power-on Settings To power the TPS150 up, simply plug the unit into the outlet. There is no power on/off switch. Reset to Factory Default Partial Reset - To partially reset the TPS150, issue a [DFLT0] serial command. This procedure performs the following (no stored projector codes or operation parameters are changed): Hardware Reset Reset address to 97 Default RS-232 port to 9600, 8, N, 1 Full Reset - To restore I/O configurations, projector codes, volume levels, and the serial set up to the default factory setting, press and hold the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons simultaneously during power-up, or issue the [DFLT1] command. 15 13 Remote Operation RS-232 Control The TPS150 RS-232 serial control port accepts serial commands from a control system, computer serial port, or any other device capable of sending out serial ASCII commands at compatible baud rates. A complete listing of RS-232 codes is included below. Communication Protocol: 8 data bits 1 stop bit No parity check 9600 baud (factory default setting) Protocol Structure All commands sent to the unit must contain a leading character, the actual command, and an ending character. The TPS150 can accept multiple commands, storing them in a buffer. It immediately executes each command in the order it was issued. The TPS150 recognizes [ and ] as leading and ending characters, also called Command Codes. The factory default for the Command Code is [ ]. Some sample command codes follow. For example: This part of the command string... Represents: [ The leading character ADDRxx The actual command. ] The ending character This command string... 16 14 Serial Commands The TPT150 and TPR150 act as a unit and will not function unless they are connected via the CAT5 cable and both are powered up. The TPT150 will receive information from the host computer via the RS-232 serial port. This information will be routed to the TPS150 or can be passed-thru to the display device for direct serial control. The RS-232 Serial Port on the TPT150 requires a null modem cable. DB-9 Connector for RS-232 Pin # Signal 2 RX 3 TX 5 GND Addressing Commands Addresses are either used to route information to the TPS150 or passed through to the display device. By definition the display device equipment has an address number that is one address larger than the TPS150. The factory default for the TPS150 is 97. Address 00 is a broadcast address and all units connected will perform the action commanded however no responses will be issued. To open communications to an addressed device you must send a [CCxx] command prior to issuing the first command. All other devices connected will ignore the commands until they are addressed. COMMAND [ADDRxx] [ADDR@] [CCxx] DESCRIPTION Assigns an address to the unit, 01 to 97. Address 99 is reserved for future products. xx = Restores factory default address for the unit. The factory default address is 97. Connects controller/host computer to the addressed unit. 00 is a broadcast address thus all connected devices will perform commands but no responses will be sent. 17 15 Set-up Commands These commands are for configuring the TPS150 and only need to be sent once. If using a thirdparty control system, most commands in this section should be placed in the start-up section of the program. COMMAND [ARC] [CPp TbTpTsTfTd p RbRpRsRfRd] DESCRIPTION Request for architectural information as described below. Model This is a 4 Byte field defining the model type. A table of Inline products and associated type codes will be created. Model S/N This is a 9 Byte field indicating the product serial number. Model Rev This is a 1 Byte field with the product revision level. FW Num This is a 6 Byte field with the Firmware number. If there is no Firmware, the number field will be filled with 0's. FW Rev This is a 2 Byte ASCII field with the firmware revision level. If there is no associated Firmware, the revision field will be filled with 0 s. Baud # This is an N Byte ASCII field, which indicates all serial baud rates for the unit. A comma separates each baud rate in the field, 1200,2400,4800,9600,19200, Future Future Use, presently this field is filled with 0 s. Configures both serial ports for baud rate, parity, stop bits, and flow control. Tb, Tp, Ts, and Tf are used to configure the TPT150 s serial port and Rb, Rp, Rs, and Rf are used to configure the TPR150 s serial port. p = 1 for port 1 Tb = 0 for 1200, 1 for 2400, 2 for 4800, 3 for 9600, 4 for 19200, 5for Tp = 0 for no parity, 1 for odd parity, 2 for even parity Ts = 0 for 1 stop bit, 1 for 2 stop bits Tf = 0 to disable flow control, 1 to enable flow control Td = 0 for full duplex [CPx?] [CPx@] p = 2 for projector port Rb = 0 for 1200, 1 for 2400, 2 for 4800, 3 for 9600, 4 for 19200, 5 for Rp = 0 for no parity, 1 for odd parity, 2 for even parity Rs = 0 for 1 stop bit, 1 for 2 stop bits Rf = 0 to disable flow control, 1 to enable flow control Rd = 0 for full duplex Queries both serial ports for current settings. 18 16 COMMAND [DFLTx] [FPx] DESCRIPTION Initializes the TPS150 and performs a hardware reset. The partial reset will default the serial ports and reset address to default (stored projector codes will be unaffected). A full reset will reset all parameters including projector codes and volume settings. x = 0 for partial reset, 1 for full reset Enable/disable front panel control and request current status. x = 0 to disable, 1 to enable x =? to request current state x = (left blank) to toggle current state Switching Commands These commands are used to control input selection of the TPT150. 19 17 Volume Commands Use these commands to control input and output volume levels. These levels are adjusted in 1-db steps. 20 18 Projector Commands The TPS150 can store and transmit commands to control the display device input selection and power on/off function. Special features are also available that allow for very elegant and userfriendly control of the overall system. Projector Codes These commands are used to store projector codes that will be issued to the display device when an associated function is activated. Switching inputs and powering the display device on and off define a function. This can be done via the front panel buttons, remote control panel, or serial control. All serial commands for the projector are to be provided by the installing technician. COMMAND [PCLpiiabcdef ] [PCHpiiabcdef ] [PCLpii?] [PCHpii?] DESCRIPTION Loads and stores an ASCII code string to a function. p = 1 for port 1 ii = for input codes ii = 05 for Projector Power off code ii = 06 for Projector Power on code abcdef = ASCII string to be stored, 63 characters maximum. Note: Single quotes in the ASCII projector codes will automatically be replaced by a left bracket [ and double quotes will be replaced by a right bracket ]. This feature is for ASCII codes only and is used when controlling an Inline product. During the delay period all serial commands to the projector and the TPT150 front panel operation is disabled. During the delay period the projector power LED will flash slowly to let the operator know that the unit is in power delay mode. This command allows the projector to warm up or cool down before operation. YYY represents the number of seconds of delay for each respective mode. x = 0 for power down delay, 1 for power up delay by = for power up by = for power down This command automatically mutes the audio when projector power is off and un-mutes the audio when projector power is turned on. x = 0 to disable, 1 to enable Note: This command requires two different code strings entered for power on and power off INLINE, INC.
