2 Our 2016 calendar celebrates the 800th anniversary of the Dominican Order with a gallery of luminaries from the long list of Dominican saints and blesseds. The images, carved in wood, stone, and marble, are all from Dominic s Church, SF, home of the Shrine. In 1206, Dominic de Guzman, sub-prior of canons at the cathedral of Osma, Spain, received the inspiration to launch what would become the Order of Preachers, approval for which was granted by Pope Honorius III in December Pray for Dominicans worldwide a happy eight-hundredth birthday!
