2 SFEF Scholarship Application 2 SOUTH FREMONT EDUCATION ASSOCIATION (SFEF) IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE AVAILABILITY OF THE FOLLOWING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR (1) $650 Dustin Birch (1) $550 Venna Welker Secrist (2)-$500 - Wana Gardner Bloom (2) $500 SFEF Education (2) $500 SFEF General (1) $1000 Davis, Parker, Rudd (Class of 1967) (1) $ 500 Ruth Adamson Foreign Language (2) $1125 Dalley Excellence in Math EXPLANATION OF SCHOLARSHIPS DUSTIN BIRCH SCHOLARSHIP The Dustin Birch Scholarship was established in 2006 in honor of LCPL Dustin V. Birch, a South Fremont Graduate who was killed in action while serving with the Marines in Operation Iraqi Freedom on June 9, Initially, this scholarship is intended for applicants who have been involved in the Debate program for at least part of their high school education. However, it may be awarded to an applicant outside of the Debate program, depending on the factors described below. SCHOLARSHIPS: One - $650 scholarship The factors considered in awarding this scholarship include the student s efforts and grades through high school, involvement in extracurricular groups and activities, character, citizenship, and need. The degree to which each of these factors influences the awarding of the scholarship will vary depending on the group of applicants. VENNA WELKER SECRIST This scholarship is offered through the efforts of Robert D. & Judy L.Secrist and Venna E. Welker. Mrs. Welker is a graduate of South Fremont. SCHOLARSHIPS: One - $550 scholarship Priority will be given to a non-traditional (trade or technical school) student. Character will be considered as well as financial need; grades are not a factor. WANA GARDNER BLOOM The Wana Gardner Bloom Scholarship was established in 2010 in honor of Wana Bloom, who was a school secretary for more than 20 years until she lost her life to cancer. Wana Bloom was a South Fremont graduate who was committed to education and enjoyed seeing students reach their full academic potential by pursuing a college degree. Students continuing their education through a university, trade school, or technical school will be considered. SCHOLARSHIPS: TWO - $500 scholarships Applicant must demonstrate strong academic performance throughout high school. Applicant must demonstrate good character. Financial need will be considered.

3 SFEF Scholarship Application 3 SFEF EDUCATION The South Fremont Education Foundation is offering this scholarship to a graduating senior from SFH who is planning to go into the field of education. SCHOLARSHIPS: Two - $500 scholarships He/she must have conducted themselves in harmony with current school policy. They should exhibit character, leadership, and school and community involvement. Community and family involvement are also considered. Grades are a factor but only part of the consideration. SFEF GENERAL The South Fremont Education Foundation is also happy to offer to a graduating senior from South Fremont High this general scholarship for any student who wants to further their education. SCHOLARSHIPS: Two - $500 scholarships Citizenship is important as well as extracurricular activities. Grades are a factor but only part of the consideration. Financial need will also be considered with this scholarship. DAVIS, PARKER, RUDD (Class of 1967) This scholarship is offered through the generous efforts of these three good ladies (Lynetta Davis, JoAnn Fenn, Nancy Dalley) who are all graduates of South Fremont. SCHOLARSHIP: One - $1,000 scholarship The criterion is general and open to all who apply. Demonstration of good character is important along with participation in extracurricular activities. Financial need is considered as well as grades. RUTH ADAMSON EMS. ( ) FOREIGN LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIP Mrs. Adamson s native land was Finland, she learned English as a second language in first grade at Duluth, Minnesota. Ruth taught Spanish and French at South Fremont High for 25 years. She has since learned German and at the age of 72 Russian. Her motto is One is never too old to learn, and to teach. It is because of her great love for students and learning that she has graciously started this perpetual scholarship. This will bless the lives of many future students wanting to further their education. SCHOLARSHP: Final amount of this scholarship will be announced at the May awards assembly but will be a minimum of $500. Must have taken at least 2 years of a foreign language. B- Grades should be a B- or better. Two week before this scholarship is awarded, the applicant must submit a written essay in a foreign language explaining why they would like to continue studying a foreign language. These essays will be judged by Mrs. Rhodehouse and one other teacher of her choosing from the High School. That recommendation will be given to the South Fremont Education Foundation. *Mrs. Adamson would like to encourage all students to learn a foreign language.

4 SFEF Scholarship Application 4 ED & VEDA MAE DALLEY "EXCELLENCE IN MATH SCHOLARSHIP" Ed Dalley was born in the Driggs area and, with his wife Veda Mae, raised 4 children in the St. Anthony area. Ed taught all classes of math at South Fremont for ten years and was known as the wizard. Upon retiring from teaching he started a supply store for auto body shops (St. Anthony Supply). They now have seven stores in Idaho. It is through the generosity of the Ed Dalley Family and his son Royce that these scholarships are offered to South Fremont graduating seniors. SCHOLARSHIPS: Two - $1,125 scholarships Must have excelled in math or the sciences with the intention of continuing their education in an Idaho college. All applicants must apply using the SFEF application.
