Lunch seminar on Master thesis work in Drinking water systems 6 November 2014 DRICKS Thomas Pettersson, Viktor Johansson, Olof Bergstedt, Kate Murphy More information on:
DRICKS from source to tap perspective Master thesis seminar - Chalmers,
Masters thesis projects DRICKS Risk assessment 2. Source water 3. Advanced NOM characterisafon & DistribuFon 4. Treatment 5. Consumers trust
Risk assessment Risk Assessment in water supply systems of large cifes in Sweden and Latvia Main purpose of this MSc project is to Illustrate and evaluate the use of different risk assessment tools and principles in drinking water supply systems Assess risks in the Nordic/BalFc countries in general and in Sweden and Latvia in parfcular. Contact: Thomas PeRersson, Andreas Lindhe,
Source water Hydrodynamic modelling - Lake Rådasjön Goals: to apply the exisfng 3D hydrodynamic model to simulate the fate and transport of faecal contaminafon within Lake Rådasjön; to develop a simplified model (e.g. 2D) of the lake and compare it with the more extensive hydrodynamic model. Contact: Ekaterina Sokolova ekaterina.sokolova@chalmers.se Expected modelling results: Spread of contaminafon in Lake Rådasjön, horizontal view (top) and cross- secfon (borom)
Source water EvaluaFon of the effects of water protecfon areas Study a number of water protection areas and evaluate how they have affected the risk level Groundwater and surface water sources Risk-based approach Aspects to be considered are e.g.: what barriers have been created, how the water protection area has affected the water resource management in general how the water source protection is considered by the municipality in strategic planning etc. Collaboration with, for example, consultants and others with a vast experience of water protection areas. Contacts and Supervisors: Andreas Lindhe & Lars Rosén
Source water Origin of perfluorinated substances in raw water sources Requirements: Student must be fluent in Swedish Number of students: 1-2 CollaboraFon with: Göteborg Kretslopp och VaRen, DRICKS Contact: Viktor Johansson,
Advanced NOM characterisa9on 1. A turbidity- correcfon algorithm for in- situ fluorescence EEMs Involves: MATLAB, modelling, chemistry DistribuFon system: 2. Assessing entrainment of contaminants in the drinking water distribufon network using fluorescence spectroscopy Involves: Field sampling during pipe repairs, MATLAB, chemistry Contact: Kate Murphy Fluorescence spectroscopy is: very sensifve, fast, mulfvariate data new instrument available, Two related PhDs
Treatment Develop key performance indicators to determine the hydraulic performance of the disinfecfon barrier The project will cover A survey among chlorinafon tanks in the Gothenburg area. A literature review to define available performance indicators. Carry out tracer studies and determine the residence curve to evaluate the idenffied performance indicators. Requirements: Course in drinking water treatment Number of students: Not limited, project can be split into several projects CollaboraFon with: Göteborg Kretslopp och VaRen and DRICKS Contact: Mia Bondelind, mia.bondelind@chalmers.se
Consumers trust CommunicaFon and trust in drinking water InvesFgate how consumer trust and confidence in drinking water is affected by normal disrupfons How informafon and communicafon strategies and crisis- communicafon are funcfoning within the municipality. Use Google Alerts about boiling recommendafons Requirements: Student must be fluent in Swedish Number of students: Not limited, project can be split into several projects CollaboraFon with: Livsmedelsverket, Göteborg Kretslopp och VaRen, DRICKS Contact: Mia Bondelind,
