1 Welcome to a conference about Civic Orientation and Health Communication 3-4 th of June 2015 Garnisonen Conference Center Karlavägen 100 in Stockholm The Conference is arranged through cooperation between the County Administrative Boards of Sweden and Project Milsa- research based support platform for Migration and Health
2 A conference about Civic orientation and Health Communication Each year, The County Administrative Boards, get the governments assignment to follow up and report on the civic orientation for newly arrived refugees. In this year s report, a number of areas for development have been identified. Some of them will be brought up and highlighted by the speakers of this conference. A migration process due to conflict or crisis is associated with several health related risk factors. As the health status of an individual has a decisive impact on the ability to participate and become a part the society and the labour market, health is therefor a prioritized issue for the County Administrative boards. Why Health Communication? Refugees often suffer from poorer health than natives, despite that, groups of refugees have shown to be less likely to use the health care and health related resources available. Health communication targeting newly arrived refugees is a recognized way of improve the power of the individual regarding their own health situation. During the conference, methods for health communication in relation to civic orientation will be addressed. The Conference is arranged in cooperation with Milsa research based platform for migration and health. Milsa is a project with regional and national partners, runned through financial support from the European Refugee Fund. Recommendations for health communication in relation to civic orientation, developed by the Milsa-project will be presented at the conference.
