3 INTRODUCTION Purpose and scope of policy The purpose of this policy is to set out the principles and guidelines that Peaks and Plains Housing Trust (the Trust) commit to in terms of tenancy management. The aims of the Trust in relation to tenancy management are to: empower customer s to manage their tenancies successfully. create sustainable tenancies and thriving communities. work with other agencies to ensure people s individual support needs are met. be active in ensuring the Trust complies with regulatory and legal requirements. POLICY STATEMENT DEFINITION Statement The Trust is committed to being a great landlord and providing our customers with great homes. As part of this, the Trust will: provide and deliver the landlord responsibilities set out in the tenancy agreement in a fair and transparent manner. deliver a quality, value for money service. offer extra support to people setting up their new home and vulnerable people, on a needs basis. All customers receive a copy of the tenancy agreement at the start of the tenancy, which includes details of both the Trust s and the customer s rights and responsibilities. The tenancy grants customers the right to occupy their home and can only be ended by either the customer if they provide notice or by the Trust if one or more of the conditions shown in the Tenancy Agreement are broken. There are many services which are covered by the tenancy agreement and for more detail on the Trust s approach to those, please see the list of Associated Documents further on in this policy. Legal Framework The Trust s policies and procedures have been developed in line with all current and relevant legislation.
4 Link to Strategic Objectives This policy supports our Corporate Objectives of: We will be a great landlord We will be a valued partner EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY IMPLICATIONS The Trust has set out within this policy to help and support all of its tenants to ensure the sustainability of their tenancy. The Trust will deliver Housing Management services which will take into account tenants particular needs and circumstances, and aim to ensure that nobody is disadvantaged by having written procedures for the implementation of this policy and that staff are trained to help and support their tenants, taking into account the diversity of the Trusts customers. RESPONSIBILITY The Assistant Director of Housing will be responsible for the effective implementation of this policy and ensuring that all staff are aware of and appropriately trained in the Trust's procedures relating to assignment and succession. CONSULTATION AND MONITORING The Assistant Director of Housing Services will ensure that this policy continues to be developed and improved by consulting with tenants' groups. Any consultation will be in accordance with the Trust s Resident Involvement Policy which states that the Trust is committed to allowing tenants and customers the greatest possible say in the services they receive from the Trust.
