4 4 Distribution of product To prevent production from being interrupted every time the next product has to be prepared, the best solution is to install a circulating system. A circulating system suits: hot spraying (recirculation) low, medium or high pressure, depending on the type of spraying chosen, and where large quantities of paint with two or more painters and spray booths are involved The circulation system The pump (1) draws the product from a large drum and supplies it to the hoses marked out, passing first through a filter (2), generally mounted in by-pass. A back pressure regulator or recirculation valve (3) maintains a constant pressure while assuring the circulation of the paint in the hoses marked IN. 3 1 BACK Isolated paint kitchen within facility: good hygiene and fire safety no limit to the number of pumps that can be installed 2 IN The circulation system At each distribution point, color change valves (4) are fitted, if required. In all cases, a fluid regulator (5), is used to regulate the fluid pressure to the spray gun. 5 Kremlin Pneumatic Pumps The Kremlin range of pumps meet all requirements for: feeding one or more manual or automatic spray guns with any product (paint, adhesives, varnishes etc.) distributing all product, whether hot or cold, to different work stations spraying and extrusion Operation : An air motor moves a piston in an alternating motion. Each pump contains: an air motor a hydraulic section The air motor: The strength and quality of a linear pneumatic motor is directly linked to the quality of its reversing valve. It should be noted that almost all Kremlin motors use the same reversing valves. Some pumps only contain one of them, while others have two or four. It all depends on the volume of air required. This steel section has four holes: (A) - Air inlet (E) - Air exhaust (B) - Link to motor s lower chamber (H) - Link to motor s upper chamber E P D L G Section (D) has a socket which, depending upon its position, will link together holes (E) and (B) or (E) and (H). This forms a switchover system, driven by a lever (L). The rotation of this lever is controlled by a rod (G), which is itself driven by the piston at the end of each stroke. 6 6 Circulating pumps The hydraulic section: The hydraulic capacity multiplied by the number of strokes of the pump per minute gives us the output of the pump. Recommended stroke speed: Normal - 6 strokes (3 cycles) per minute Maximum - 12 strokes (6 cycles) per minute Kremlin hydraulic pumps are supplied with long life fixed or mobile cartridges. Seals, chosen based on the product, are fitted and pre-compressed in the cartridges to facilitate replacement or by the tightening of a screw holding them in position. Compression ratio: The difference in surface area between the piston of the air motor piston and the hydraulic piston allows us to multiply the compressed air in the same ratio as the surfaces. We say that the ratio of the pump is 4:1, 8:1, 16:1, 2:1 or 4:1 etc. By controlling the air pressure with a regulator, it is possible to precisely adjust the fluid pressure to the gun when the variables caused by the following are taken into account: - fluid viscosity - pressure losses in the hoses (through varying lengths of hose, connectors, elbows and valves) Names of the pumps: Each pump is defined by two numbers separated by a period. st 1 number Example : 4.22 F nd 2 number The first number signifies the pump RATIO. In the example above, the pump has a compression ratio of 4:1, which means that it delivers the paint at four times the pressure of the compressed air which drives the pump. If the air supply is at a pressure of 5 psi (3 bar), then the theoretical output pressure of the paint from the pump will be: 5 psi (3 bar) x 4 (pump ratio) = 2 psi (12 bar) The second number signifies the capacity of the fluid section. In the above example, the pump has a capacity of 22 cm 3, which means that it will deliver 22 cm 3 of paint for each stroke of the piston (or 22 cm 3 for both the rise and the fall of the piston). When the pump is working at a rate of 6 strokes per minute (or 3 cycles) it will deliver around: 6 x 22 cm 3 = 13,2 cm 3, or 13.2 liters per minute. To convert cm 3 to ounces multiply the cm 3 x STROKE + = Cycle CYCLE / REVOLUTION STROKE

Nothing of similar pressure and fl uid output in the piston pump design outperforms the Flowmax SuperLife technology. Flowmax pumps substantially outlast standard piston pumps using self-adjusting seals. There is no lubricant cup, thus eliminating leaking packings. Most standard piston pumps only fi ll during the up stroke of the pump. These pumps have one inlet and one outlet ball check. This design is good for normal paint delivery and small circulation systems, however when higher material fl ows are required, up to one gallon per cycle, the Quatro pump should be considered. The Quatro pump has two inlet ball checks, and two out let ball checks. This allows the pump to fi ll in both the up and down directions, which allows for a much higher fl uid out put. The diagram shows how the ball checks operate. The combination of four cycling ball checks produces very high fl ow rates, consistant change-over pressures, and very long pump life. The stroke length has also been increased to 8 inches, which further improves the cycling rate of the pump. Combined, these features result in smooth output pressures and long reliable pump life. The Quatro pumps have become the standard of high fl ow circulation systems around the world.

32 Gear Pumps 32 Gear pumps Possible installation diagram: The gear pump ensures a paint flow rate proportional to its rotation speed. A regular, accurate flow rate is achieved when using it. The pump must be supplied with a fluid pressure of 7 to 8 psi to make priming easier and ensure that the flow rate corresponds to the displacement and speed of the pump. For a circulating pump, a pressure regulator should be installed on the pump inlet and a flowmeter should always be located on the outlet.
