2 XMC00 Boot Kit For XMC000 Family Overview Overview This document describes the features and hardware details of the XMC00 Boot Kit. This board is mounted with ARM Cortex -M0 based XMC00 Microcontroller from Infineon Technologies AG. This board is part of Infineon s XMC000 Application Kits. The XMC00 Boot Kit (CPU-A-V) houses the XMC00 Microcontroller and a x0 pin edge for application expansion. The board along with application cards (e.g. Colour LED Card, White LED Card) demonstrates the capabilities of XMC00. The main use case for this board is to demonstrate the generic features of XMC00 device, including tool chain. The focus is safe operation under evaluation conditions. The board is neither cost nor size optimized and does not serve as a reference design.. Key Features The XMC00 Boot Kit is equipped with the following features XMC00 (ARM Cortex -M0 based) Microcontroller, VQFN Connection to application cards via card edge connector Detachable J-Link debugger and UART virtual COM port, with micro USB connector Four user LEDs Potentiometer, connected to analog input P. Power supply via Micro-USB connector Usage of 0MHz external crystal for CAN communication Usage of.7 khz external crystal as standby clock. Block Diagram Figure shows the functional block diagram of the XMC00 Boot Kit. Features include: On board Debugger for downloading and debugging of application code Virtual COM port for UART communication with terminal program e.g. Hyperterminal x0 card edge connector for extension to application card e.g. Colour LED Card and White LED Card User LEDs connected to GPIO P.0, P., P., P. Variable resistor R0 connected to analog input P. All the pins of XMC00 are accessible via the connector JP0, JP0, JP0 and JP0 CAN interface with CAN transceiver mounted External crystal 0 MHz and.7 khz mounted User Manual Revision

4 XMC00 Boot Kit For XMC000 Family Hardware Description Figure XMC00 Boot Kit. Power Supply XMC00 Boot Kit is powered from the micro USB connector (+V); however, there is a current limit that can be drawn from the host PC through USB. If the CPU-A-V board is used to drive other application board (e.g. Colour LED Card, White LED Card) and the total current required exceeds 00mA, then the board needs to be powered by external power supply connected to VDD and connection on board. The XMC0 device can operate by power supply of.v till.vdc. On this board Vdc is used to power the XMC0 device. However, if the user wants to power the XMC0 device with.vdc, then set jumper at JP0 to.v side. User Manual Revision

Reset Since XMC0 does not have a reset pin, the user can unplug and replug the USB cable to achieve power-on master reset.. Clock Generation XMC0 has two internal oscillators: DCO and DCO. DCO has a clock output of 9 MHz. DCO is used to generate the standby clock running at.7 khz which used for Real Time Clock too. The main clock, MCLK and fast peripherial clock, PCLK, are generated from the output of DCO... External Crystal and external Real time Clock crystal The XMC00 device allows its main clock MCLK to be generated from external crystal to achieve higher accuracy. It also allows its real time clock to be run from external RTC crystal. On the XMC00 Boot Kit, a 0 MHz external crystal circuit and a.7 khz RTC external crystal circuit are implement on board to allows user to run its application using external crystals. The 0 MHz crystal Q0 is connected to the XMC0 device via R and R. If user does not want to use the external 0MHz crystal Q0 but wish to use P0.0 and P0. as general purpose pins, then R and R need to be desoldered while R and R soldered. The.7 khz crystal Q0 is not connected to the XMC0 device. If user wants to use the external.7 khz crystal, the two 0 ohm resistors R09 and R need to be soldered while R0 and R0 need to desoldered. 7 XMC00 Boot Kit For XMC000 Family Hardware Description Figure The positions of 0 ohm resistors for connection of external crystals to XMC00 device. Boot Option After power-on reset with master reset, XMC0 device enters different boot modes depending on the BMI (Boot Mode Index) value stored in flash configuration sector 0 (CS0). The BMI value pre-programmed in the XMC0 on Boot Kit is User mode with debug enabled, hence, the XMC0 device will start to run the application code in its embedded flash after power on reset.. CAN bus connector A CAN bus header connector is provided for CAN communication with the XMC0 device using CAN node RXD pin P. and TXD pin P.9. If the user wants to test the CAN BSL mode of XMC0 device using this CAN transceiver circuit, then R0 and R0 need to be removed, then RXD and TXD pins of IFX0LE need to be connected to P0. and P0. of XMC0 device respectively. Furthermore, dip-switches SWD/SPD and SWCLK need to set to position off. IFX0LE requires V power supply. If the input voltage to XMC0 is set to.v, then remove R0 and solder R0. Next, supply an external power supply of V to pin (+) of JP0. By making these changes, the user can use this CAN transceiver for CAN BSL handshaking. User Manual 7 Revision

Debug Interface and virtual com port XMC00 Boot Kit has on-board debugger which supports Serial Wire Debug (SWD) and Single Pin Debug (SPD) as debug interface. SPD is a proprietary debugging protocol from Infineon Technologies and it requires only pin for debug communication. The debugger also provides a virtual COM port which support UART communication via P. (rx-in) and P. (tx-out) of XMC00. There is a x pins Header Debug connector X0.
