1 Nationalism in World Politics CREDIT INSTRUCTOR Seo-Hyun Park OFFICE TBA OFFICE HOURS TBA TIME TBA CLASSROOM LOCATION TBA * Please leave the fields blank which haven t been decided yet. [COURSE INFORMATION] This course explores the concept and practice of nationalism, with a particular emphasis on the role that it plays in world politics. We will survey the main concepts and theories in the study of nationalism, identify the major actors and processes in the politics of nationalism, examine the emergence of nationalism as a major force in international relations, and investigate various COURSE DESCRIPTION links between questions of national identity and interstate cooperation or conflict. This is a GOALS writing-intensive course designed to help students think, discuss, and write critically about the role of nationalism in international politics. By engaging in critical debate and a series of writing exercises, students will gain practice in critically assessing opposing theoretical perspectives by evaluating the logic of their arguments and the validity of empirical evidence. PREREQUISITE Introduction to International Relations is recommended.
