RE-ENTRY: Do not enter treated area within 2 days after treatment unless wearing protective clothing. AERIAL APPLICATION: Notify all inhabitants of the immediate area to be sprayed and issue the necessary warnings. Do not spray over or allow drift to contaminate adjacent areas or water. Please refer to the SANS. Code of Practice for the aerial application of agricultural chemicals.

4 4 ALTHOUGH THIS REMEDY HAS BEEN EXTENSIVELY TESTED UNDER A LARGE VARIETY OF CON- DITIONS THE REGISTRATION HOLDER DOES NOT WARRANT THAT IT WILL BE EFFICACIOUS UNDER ALL CONDITIONS BECAUSE THE ACTION AND EFFECT THEREOF MAY BE AFFECTED BY FACTORS SUCH AS ABNORMAL SOIL, CLIMATIC AND STORAGE CONDITIONS; QUALITY OF DILUTION WATER, COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES NOT INDICATED ON THE LABEL AND THE OCCURRENCE OF RESISTANCE OF THE PEST AGAINST THE REMEDY CONCERNED AS WELL AS BY THE METHOD, TIME AND ACCURACY OF APPLICATION. THE REGISTRATION HOLDER FURTHERMORE DOES NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE TO CROPS, VEGETATION, THE ENVIRONMENT OR HARM TO MAN OR ANIMAL OR FOR LACK OF PERFORMANCE OF THE REMEDY CONCERNED DUE TO FAILURE OF THE USER TO FOLLOW THE LABEL INSTRUCTIONS OR TO THE OCCURRENCE OF CONDITIONS WHICH COULD NOT HAVE BEEN FORESEEN IN TERMS OF THE REGISTRATION. CONSULT THE SUPPLIER IN THE EVENT OF ANY UNCERTAINTY. PRECAUTIONS: Do not inhale fumes or spraymist. Wear protective clothing - overalls, rubber boots and gloves and a suitable respirator. Wash contaminated clothing immediately after the day's work. Wash with soap and water immediately after accidental skin contact. Do not eat, drink or smoke whilst applying, mixing or before washing hands and face or change of clothing. Prevent contamination of food, feedstuffs, food utensils and drinking water. Prevent drift on to other crops, grazing, rivers, dams and areas not under treatment. Clean applicator thoroughly after use - dispose of wash water where it will not contaminate food, grazing or water. Rinse empty container three times with a volume water equal to at least one tenth of that of the container and add the rinsings to the contents of the spray tank before disposing of the container in the prescribed manner. Destroy empty container by perforation and flattening and do not re-use for any purpose. SYMPTOMS OF HUMAN POISONING: Headache, fatigue, faintness, giddiness, excessive sweating, nausea, abdominal pains, vomiting, diarrhoea, tightness of the chest, anxiety, blurred vision, muscle twitching beginning in the eyelids and tongue, small pupils, respiratory distress, convulsions, coma. FIRST AID TREATMENT: Remove patient from source of poisoning (to well ventilated area) and keep him quiet and reassured. Remove contaminated clothing and rinse contaminated body area thoroughly with plenty of soap and cold water. Do not rub skin. Flush contamination out of eyes with clean water for 15 minutes. If water diluted mixture has been swallowed induce vomiting by tickling the back part of the throat. If concentrate has been swallowed, firstly give copious quantities of either beaten egg white, starch solution or Milk of Magnesia before inducing vomiting. Repeat until vomit fluid is clear and free from smell of poison. TAKE THE PATIENT IMMEDIATELY TO THE NEAREST PHYSICIAN. Administer artificial respiration or closed chest cardiac massage if necessary. Do not apply direct mouth to mouth respiration. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

5 5 NOTE TO PHYSICIAN: Administer Atropine Sulphate, intravenously (1-4 mg) every 5-10 minutes until signs of atropinization (dry, flushed skin and tachycardea) 2-PAM 50 mg/kg up to total dose of 1-2 g or 66 % of this dose of Protopam. Repeat oximes if necessary. Do not give morphine. RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT: For resistance management, Metasystox R 250 EC is a group code 1B insecticide. Any insect population may contain individuals naturally resistant to Metasystox R 250 EC and other group code 1B insecticides. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the insect population if these insecticides are used repeatedly. These resistant insects may not be controlled by Metasystox R 250 EC or any other group code 1B insecticides. To delay insecticide resistance: Avoid exclusive repeated use of insecticides from the same insecticide group code. Alternate with products from different insecticide group codes. Integrate other control methods (chemical, cultural, biological) into insect control programs. For specific information on resistance management contact the registration holder of this product. AERIAL APPLICATION : Aerial application of Metasystox R 250 EC may only be done by a registered Aerial Application Operator using a correctly calibrated, registered aircraft according to the instructions of SANS (Aerial Application of Agricultural Pesticides). Ensure that the spray mixture is distributed evenly over the target area and that the loss of spray material during application is restricted to a minimum. It is therefore essential that the following criteria be met: Volume: A spray mixture volume of 30 l per hectare is recommended. As this product has not been evaluated at a reduced volume rate, the registration holder cannot guarantee efficacy, or be held responsible for any adverse effects if this product is applied aerially at a lower volume rate than recommended above. Droplet coverage: 25 to 35 droplets per cm² must be recovered at the target area. Droplet size: A droplet spectrum with a VMD of 280 to 300 microns is recommended. Limit the production of fine droplets less than 150 microns (high drift and evaporation potential) to a minimum. Flying height: Maintain the height of the spray boom at 3 to 4 metres above the target. Do not spray when aircraft dives, is in a climb or when banking Use suitable atomising equipment that will produce the desired droplet size and coverage, but which will ensure the minimum loss of product. The spraying system must produce a droplet spectrum with the lowest possible Relative Span. Position all the atomisers within the inner 60 to 75 % of the wingspan to prevent droplets from entering the wingtip vortices. The difference in temperature between the wet and dry bulb thermometers, of a whirling hygrometer, should not exceed 8 C. Stop spraying if the wind speed exceeds 15 km/h. Stop spraying under turbulent, unstable and dry conditions during the heat of the day. Spraying under temperature inversion conditions (spraying in or above the inversion layer) and/or high humidity conditions (relative humidity 80 % and above) may lead to the following: - reduced efficacy due to suspension and evaporation of small droplets in the air (inadequate coverage). - damage to other sensitive crops and/or non-target areas through drifting of the suspended spray cloud away from the target field. Ensure that the Aerial Spray Operator knows exactly which fields to spray. Obtain an assurance from the Aerial Spray Operator that the above requirements will be met and that relevant data will be compiled in a logbook and kept for future reference. DIRECTIONS FOR USE: USE ONLY AS DIRECTED

6 6 COMPATIBILITY: Metasystox R 250 EC is compatible with neutrally reacting insecticides and fungicides such as fixed coppers and carbamates, but it should not be used in combination with Bordeaux Spray, Lime Sulphur, Lime-containing deficiency sprays or Captab. Metasystox R 250 EC is compatible with Bayleton 250 EC (Reg. No. L1740) and Tokuthion 960 EC (Reg. No. L924). Metasystox R 250 EC when used alone on wheat and barley can be used in a tank mixture with herbicides such as Buctril DS (Reg. No. L3350), Bayer MCPA 400 (Reg. No. L1401) and Hoelon 36 EC (Reg. No. L5568). MIXING INSTRUCTIONS: Pour the required quantity of Metasystox R 250 EC into the water while agitating. For period that has to be allowed between last application and harvest, see "WARNINGS". On wheat, when severe infestations of Macrosiphum avenae (brown wheat aphid) occur, spraying should be carried out after ear emergence but before dough stage. Wheat, Russian 500 ml + At first sign of infestation apply a tankbarley: aphid 650 ml mix of Metasystox R 250 EC + (Diuraphis paration paration EC. Repeat treatment noxia) EC/ha when necessary. Wheat only: Russian 500 ml + Ground and aerial application: aphid 100 ml At first sign of infestation apply a (Diuraphis Tokuthion tank-mix of Metasystox R 250 EC + noxia) 960 EC/ha Tokuthion 960 EC. Do not apply after ear emergence. Repeat treatment when necessary. Western Cape Only Wheat, Russian 500 ml/ha Apply at first sign of infestation. If the barley: aphid crop is not growing actively due to (Diuraphis stress conditions caused by unfavournoxia) able climatic factors such as drought or extreme cold, etc., apply a tank mixture of Metasystox R 250 EC 500 ml + paration EC 650 ml/ha. Repeat these treatments when necessary.
