Local Authority Absence Barnet's overall absence in 2014/15 was 4.2% (Chart 1), placing Barnet 98th out of 152 Local Authorities in the country. This represented an improvement from when Barnet was ranked 120th (Table 1). Barnet's overall absence rates are above national, inner and outer London, caused by higher authorised absence. Barnet's unauthorised absence is equal to national and below inner and outer London (Chart 2). Barnet has a higher proportion of sessions lost to authorised appointment, religious holidays and "other" compared to national. Barnet also has a lower proportion of unauthorised holidays and "other" unauthorised absences; yet has a higher proportion of absences with no reason yet obtained. 13 Change in Absence over time The table shows the % absence in each academic year and the change in absence between 2012/13 and 2014/15. Some schools (at the top of the list) do not have a full 3-year set of data to use for comparison. Five schools have a higher absence rate in 2014/15 than they did in 2012/13 (and all of those have a higher rate of absence than the national average in 2014/15). 39 schools' absence rate has improved more than the national rate of absence improved during the same time period of 2012/13 to 2014/15, although 18 of those still have a higher absence rate compared to national.
